G3 Genuine Guide Gear High Traction Skins -

Introducing G3's new Alpinist High Traction Climbing Skins. This High Traction version of the flagship Alpinist fabric offers exceptional traction for those days when you're faced with a more aggressive ascent or tricky, hard pack surfaces. The High Traction skins can increase traction by 10-20% on steep, hard pack surfaces, depending on snow conditions.

  • Lightweight synthetic plush material glides like a dream and grips like a vise

  • Curved, low profile tip connector fits almost every tip profile
  • Attachment strap adjusts and clip provides just the right amount of tension for a secure, stress-reducing fit

  • Non-toxic, solvent-free glue sticks at -22 degrees Fahrenheit
  • RipStrip reduces skin-to-skin adhesion for easier separation
  • Laminated tip connector features low-profile, self-aligning, stainless-steel hands
The G3 Alpinist High Traction Climbing Skins are built the same way as the regular Alpinist skins, except for the extra grippy, high traction plush. Slightly heavier but with increased hold especially on hard surfaces or heavily travelled skintracks, these High Traction Skins will get you up the mountain and leave you feeling secure, no matter the conditions.

Made with all synthetic material, the G3 Alpinist High Traction Skins are extremely grippy. Take on any aggressively straight up terrain with this skins. On the grip to glide scale the Alpinist High Traction Skins are more on the grip side and are best used in slack country.

G3 Genuine Guide Gear High Traction Skins Reviews:

Used these for a few outings so far this year and figured I'd chime in as there weren't any reviews yet. Overall, you get what you expect with these. They are definitely grippier on the up than the regular alpinists. I did notice some reduced glide (to be expected) but once they break in later in the winter I expect they'll glide better. G3 tip/tail connectors are awesome and the cutting tool they supply makes trimming pretty painless. Only a few minor gripes: I still think Black Diamonds glue is better (the G3 glue froze up in -7 deg. F temps today here in CO and isn't quite as tacky as the BD gold label I've used). Also, these seem to be shedding way more of the plush than I've seen on other new skins after trimming. I know the high traction version has longer hairs so hopefully it's just a function of this and will stop after a few more outings. Overall, I'm happy I retired my Alpinists and picked up the High Tractions. They glide pretty darn well and stick much better on the up which is helpful when you aren't doing a whole lot of rolling/flat approaches.

It's a commonly asked question, so I'd like to point out that these do come with both the skin savers and the trim tool. They also come with a storage bag. I actually bought skin savers on accident, so didnt want anyone else to make that mistake!
These skins are exactly as advertised. I've used the regular G3 alpinist for a while and really like them but i did find myself slipping on some steeper wasatch skin tracks so I gave these a try. Definitely a noticeable amount of extra grip but also a noticeable loss in glide. If you do steep skins or find yourself slipping these will definitely help! If you do long flat approaches, you might wanna stick with the regular alpinist which is more of a middle ground on grip and glide. My skis are 190cm long so I got the x-long and they fit perfectly. Overall, very happy with this purchase!

I have used this on 5 long day tours now which included several trips up the hill in the Northeast on knee deep pow and bulletprof ice and thus far, it's great! I love how it connects to the ski both tip and tail; seems super durable. My only minor concern is that the glue might wear out BBUUTT nothing really suggests this. I ONLY say this as I do not need secure the skin to a fixed object while using my entire body weight to unfold it, like some of the BD Skins. with that said, I have seen the ski edge cut through the tip anchor on a BD skin. As of right now, my vote for skin is G3 and would highly recommend this product!!!

These are my first skins so I have no other reference to compare to, but they were great. Sticks to anything (ice, slush, powder) and allowed me to walk straight up some quite steep slopes. I was easily able to cut them down to size with the special cutting tool that they came with. Am riding with twin tip skis so would recommend the twin tip adaptors that I also bought.

I have been very pleased with these skins so far. I like the idea of the high traction and for the most part have no trouble gripping the snow on steep terrain. The tool G3 skins come with to trim the skin is very easy to use. The clips on these skins stay in place very well and I have never had any problems.
