Gerber Outrigger Folding Pocket Knife Review:

Mixed ergos.

I bought this knife as an 'upgrade' to a plastic-handled, locking, assisted-opening Gerber I've been carrying for years (don't remember the model). The knife is a nice size for EDC, and the black rubber on the handle gives a good grip. For an assisted-opening knife, it's way too stiff to open (especially compared to the other Gerber I own), which I'm hoping will loosen up with a little use. My biggest peeve is, for a right-hander, the clip is 'upside down', forcing you to flip the knife over in your hand after pulling it from your pocket in order to have it in the right position to put your thumb on the opening 'button'. My first Gerber, which was 1/2 the price, btw, got this right with the clip on the opposite side of the handle from your thumb, and that with the knife clipped to your pocket the hinge end is down and your thumb lands right where the lock and blade 'button' are when you reach for it. The design of the Outrigger makes reaching for the blade a bit more clumsy.
