Giesswein Gastein Review:

I hesitated to buy this slipper due to the price, but felt that if they provided the comfort I sought they would be worth the cost. They are not everything I wanted in a slipper but will have to wait another year to replace them. The slippers are cozy and rich. The fur is a beautiful color and very plush and soft and nice to touch. The exterior bottoms are a beautiful dove colored lambskin. The arch support is impressive and noticeable as soon as you put the slipper on, right away you can feel the lift in the arch of your foot. As another reviewer put it (these are now available in solid colors, "Gerolding") there is a lift and cushion in the heel, and none in the ball of the foot area. The heel is firm to the touch with some light padding on top. They are a big slipper that fit somewhat loose around the foot and feel lightweight on your feet. I would describe these as rich look and feel, casual and cozy. To be fair, I was searching for a scuff slipper that had more raised support/fur around the back of the heel and fit a little more snugly around the foot, and compared these to the Ugg "Cozy" slipper. I did not like the Ugg because it had too much weighty rubber on the sole where this slipper has a nice lightweight bottom made of lambskin. Tory Burch made what I was looking for- perfect combination of cozy, support, and lightweight but no longer available. The problem that I am having with these is that they are too loose for doing housework. I wanted a plush slipper, light enough but cozy and warm. Due to the looser fitting these are best for scuffing around after a shower or watching TV. (Though they will come off your feet when curling up with blankets and such due to the fit being loose). These are a struggle to keep on if you are moving around doing significant work. I've been wearing them for over 6 weeks now and a new problem developed- occasionally the back of the slipper now scoots out from under my foot to the right and my heel comes down on the side of the slipper and the floor. You would think this problem would be due to wearing a size too big, but these fit properly when standing still. It's pretty damp in Seattle. and you want your feet to feel warm and dry. This slipper is a looser fitting slipper, and so my feet still feel cold in areas unless I wear warm socks with them and feel these missed the point. I did not mark them as wider than described because I believe this was the intention of the design. A minor issue is the beautiful color of the bottom of the slipper facing the floor will not last long. All of the things you walk on in these slippers will appear as smears and splats permanently embedded and looks kind of dirty. That would not stop me from buying these. I gave the four star rating because my preference is for a slightly different style of slipper. If you want a cozy relaxation slipper out of the bath, I would love these. They are the ultimate in spa relaxation. If you are active and want to wear these for indoor housework they may not work for you.
