Giro Hex -
Giro Hex Helmet 2014.
A great choice for price-concious riders looking for a rugged all-mountain helmet with tons of premium features, the Giro Hex is loaded with features and looks sharp too. This brawny skull protector fuses muscular, progressive style with the versatility of a trail riding helmet. Not just a pretty shell, the Hex comes stocked with some of Giro's most prized features.
Giro's in-mold construction process fuses the helmet's outer shell with its impact-absorbing EPS liner during the molding process, making the liner literally a part of the helmet. This process reinforces areas around vents and ribs, creating a one-piece exoskeleton that allows the helmet to be lighter, more durable, and better ventilated than traditional designs. The proprietary Wind Tunnelâ„¢ ventilation system, combines active vents with internal exhaust channels that thrust cool, fresh air over and around the riders head-while forcing heat and stale air out. More ventilation means long lasting comfort for those epic rides. Whether you're climbing a winding strip of singletrack or descending down a rock littered mountainside, the HEX's many vents let your head breathe. Giro spent two years fine tuning the Roc Loc fit system to bring you Roc Loc 5, a groundbreaking fit system with an unmatched level of comfort, stability, adjustability, and weight savings. With Roc Loc 5, you can easily dial-in both fit tension and adjust vertical position with a single hand. Twist the ratcheting, micro-adjusting dial for a tighter fit on rough terrain, and back it off a bit to relax across the flats or up a warm climb. A three-position bracket allows for 15 millimeters of up/down movement for easy fine-tuning of vertical positions. Even with these impressive features, Roc Loc 5 is 40 percent lighter than its popular predecessor, Roc Loc 4. Giro's P.O.V visor puts the finishing touch on this already awesome helmet. The visor is anchored by a patented internal clutch mechanism and is capable of 15 degrees of tool-free, on-the-fly vertical adjustment.

I've got a few rides in with this helmet and so far it's been great. I typically have to wear a l/xl helmet but with the Giro sizing I was able to fit into a medium which makes for a more compact and better fitting helmet. Ventilation is great and it's very light weight, hardly notice it once it's on. The fit system of this helmet is highly adjustable so you can really dial it in. It takes some time to get it right, but once it's done you shouldn't have to mess with it again. My only complaint is the height adjustment on the RocLoc moves up and down too easily. I usually reposition it once the helmet is on and then adjust the RocLoc as needed. If I crash and burn and need to replace this helmet I'd get another Hex.

Especially the chin straps. It's nice to have a set of chin straps that aren't so heavy. The helmet itself is light and well ventilated. The support cinch on the back doesn't get in the way (even if you have lots of hair, like me). And the pads hold in the sweat well.
I had to block a few outreaching branches with the helmet on my last ride. Solid smacks on the noggin, too. To my surprise, nary a scratch on the plastic. I consider that a good sign.
Will I buy another Hex if smash up this one? Yeah, probably.

I really like this helmet. It is great for the price. It is much more ventilated than my last one, its fairly light, and I think its actually pretty cool looking. Just a couple drawbacks that I noticed about it though...
-It tends to wobble a bit from left to right, especially with a camara on top, and also pulls back a little bit. Not a big deal though and probably just a sizing issue.
-The chin strap is a little weird and hard to adjust correctly so it doesnt feel funny.
Overall this is a good helmet for the price.

I've ridden with the Hex about 20 hours, and I'm still impressed with the amount of air this thing pulls in. Just above walking speed I can feel my head cooling. Easily the best cooling of any helmet I've used in the past. The fit is also impressive - I have a very large head, most helmets and hats simply won't fit, or are uncomfortably tight. The Hex feels great, even at the end of a ride. Easy size adjustment with a simple twist of the knob.
I can't think of a single negative! Buy one!

I've had this helmet for years and love it. For the price it's light and the ventilation hangs with any top dollar lid. I have the black one and just got the white one for my wife and it fits her well. If Giro ever stops making the Hex I plan to stock up on em because I'm not sure I want to use anything else.

Helmet looks and fits great. The ratchet for the tensioner is easy to use one handed making it nice for transitions from those long hot climbs to tightening it up for ripping descents. I have only had it for a few weeks so I cant comment on the longevity of it but so far so good!

I love this helmet! it just looks really different and sweet! also it works soooo good. I usually have problems with helmets not keeping sweet out of my face this keeps is all out of my face and the vents make if feel like I have a fan on my head!

First new helmet in 5 years. Easy to fit. I ride in Florida and I can feel the difference with the vent system. Didn't need the extra pads for fit.(might be because I gotta block head). Great price and quick delivery from Huck. I would highly recommend.

jekyll58 at Backcountry.com on 09/06/2011

The helmet is great. It has vents that open to the front to take in air. I ride in Texas where it's really hot. This helmet is noticeably cooler than my last one. I like the matte finish too.

Great fit, easy adjustment system, good coverage for the lower back of the head, light and solid. Good value all mountain lid.
