Good experience with minor adjustments
I actually love this piece of equipment. I use my iphone as a dedicated GPS and this unit allows me to use it on multiple day trips. (I have used this on trips spanning over 4 days so far with zero problems.) It also works great with my Guide Plus Mobile Solar unit. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the batteries it comes with could be better but that's an easy fix!
Having read the negative reviews on this product I will say this. Your charging power is only as good as the batteries themselves. My unit came with 4 AA batteries rated at 2000 NiMH. I replaced those with 4 PowerEx 2700 NiMH batteries which I already owned and charging power was significantly improved. (over doubled actually) I have been able to charge my iphone4 from 5% power to 100% and charge my ipod from dead with power still remaining on the goal zero.
I especially like the idea that it takes AA batteries because I can bring along an additional set or more of batteries for emergency backup. When other units go dead, they are worthless until you can recharge them from home again. This unit can be recharged using solar power on the trail or by simply bringing back up rechargable AA batteries. Having those additional features will keep this a key piece of gear in my arsonal for years to come!
Also, I have used battery chargers that interfear with my iPhone GPS while they are charging so I have to stop tracking while recharging. This product does NOT interfear with my tracking and I can charge in my pocket while hiking and continue to use my all my phone GPS functions. HUGE PLUS!

Versatile power storage
My only complaint with this product is that it should just come with the solar collectors (Nomad 7, 3.5, etc). This charges quickly. I can get two charges on my smartphone when the Guide 10 is fully charged. It will accept any NiMH rechargeable battery, so the Energizer recharger/batteries I bought eons ago can fit in this and work fine. The LED is really bright and works even where there is not enough charge left for electronics. I have charged my smartphone, iPod, my son's MP3 player, and our camera with this (not all from the same charge). I can connect this to the Nomad 7 and set it in the car window. It tolerates the cold we have had in Wisconsin this past month. I charge it in the living room window all day and then take the Guide 10 in my tote to work to keep my energy-hog phone charged. Love this set (Nomad 7/Guide 10).
Pretty good!
I like this charger. As some posters previously pointed out, the included batteries are not the best. Also, I agree that you could store more energy with a Lithium Ion pack. But, for versatility and convenience, this is very good. I like being able to carry inexpensive batteries in my pack, and being able to charge my devices w/o worry. If needed, I can get replacement batteries most anywhere. That would not be the case with a Lithium Ion battery pack. Also, it is neat to be able to do both AAA and AA batteries. It works as advertised. I can get 1.5 charges on my phone, or 2 complete charges on my Garmin 310XT. I would like more, yes, but I don't see how that could be done with today's technology.

Not as good as expected--disappointed
I came to the store intent on buying the Brunton Aspire and had it in my hands. The salesperson saw me holding it, said he was going to do me a favor and told me it was no good and I should buy the Goal Zero instead. I had done my research prior and had decided the Brunton was the way to go. But he was pretty convincing and went to great lengths to talk me out of the Brunton. I had planned to charge from various sources and various devices. Goal Zero seems to to lock you into buying more cords (from them) in order to make this fully useful. Quite disappointed I let the salesperson change my mind. I'll probably just keep this in the emergency supplies I guess since I can't find the packaging to take it back. Going back online to buy the Brunton since it is no longer available in the store.
Why not include the AAA adapter?
I do a lot of backpack hunting and was given the Nomad as a gift. I could not find anywhere that would ship the guide 10 because of the batteries. I was able to buy the guide 10 at REI but the AAA adapter is not included and there were none in store. I am now able to charge batteries for my GPS and direct charge my sat phone. I prefer to use AAA headlamps and would like to be able to charge AAA as well. I have checked and have been unable to find anywhere to purchase the AAA adapter by itself (as nowhere that I have been able to find will ship batteries).
The concept and equipment are top notch, it's frustrating trying to get set up though.

Expected Much More
I have owned the goal zero guide 10 system for several months now and taken it on several outings. This thing is great for charging my headlamp a few times on the trail. However, I can only charge my galaxy s2 about %40 before the pack is dead and needs recharging. This is ideal for an emergency situation, but not really for sustainable power on the trail. I think this pack would be much better if they made it an internal lithium ion pack instead of AA's. NIMH batteries simply do not pack enough punch to power today's devices. Although I swear by goal zero solar panels, I feel this battery pack fell a bit short of my expectations.
Had higher hopes
Bought this after reading lots of reviews. I charged the batteries when I got home. It would only recharge my half dead cell phone once before the Guide 10 Plus would need another charge. I repeated this process several times before I contacted Goal Zero customer service. They were very helpful. They eventually sent me another set of batteries. They are much better however I was expecting the same performance as my Brunton Inspire, which I love. I did throw in a set of Eneloops while I was waiting for the replacement batteries. Only then did I get the same performance as the Inspire.
