A Little Steamy But Very Light
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Pro: Very lightweight and packable. Pro: Less expensive than most. Con: Leg zippers are too short. Con: A little less breathable than some. These pants will disappear into your pack. They're very lightweight. A size M is only 5.4 ounces. They so far have warded off continuous medium strength rain on a 3 hour hike. They're a bit less breathable than I'd like, but the lightweight makes up for it. The leg zippers should be a little longer. I have a Mens size 8.5 foot and I have to take off my boots to get the pants on. The price, weight and small pack size of these pants more than make up for the slight clamminess and inconvenience of boot removal. They could be better, but we can't always have it all. Ultralighters will enjoy these rain pants. | |

Superlite rain pants for the $

I wore them on a 14er as backup to my power stretch tights with undies. Predawn winds were blowing along the ridge and summit but didnt feel it. Probably they are waterproof. Seemed pretty durable, but still wanted to be careful how and where I sat, etc. No damage, stayed clean OK. Ultra-packable! The zippers are useless for me because my big boots (Salomon SM Lites) can't fit thru the trim-cut legs. But at least they werent swooshing badly while I walked. Good looking, in the generic uberican cut Golite has. The material felt on the less breathable side, there's no fly or other vent. When overheating, rolling up the legs helped a little, even rolled down the waistband as far as it would go without binding leg movement.

Impressive | |

They fit reasonably well for rain pants and the material does not feel like a garbage bag, for the weight this is surprising. The material is qute silky. I really put them to the test kyacking in the rain (no water skirt on the kyack). Despite sitting in a puddle for an hour i was dry as a bone. My only complaint is that the ankle zipper does not stay all the way down. It could use a snap, but that would add weight!

"Fantastic!" | |

| Great so far, comfortable feel, weight is 1 oz. less than manufacturer stated 5 oz., a great benefit to us gram counters. Haven't done the field test yet, but of course would not have bought them without reading many reviews (fieldtests), so know they will be a great product. Trading these for my old rainpants saves me 7 ounces off the weight of my backpack, thats's a great weight savings on an item one always needs to carry, yet hardly ever uses. | |

"Light weight and roomy, well-constructed."

| Wet conditions beware! Now that I carry the GoLite Reed Pants, you can NEVER get to me. Ok, luckily I haven't had to use these yet in the great Wet PacNW, but they seem like they'd do the trick. They're roomy enough to wear pant or shorts under and are extremely light. May not be sturdy enough for everyday rain protection. Besides packing them for hiking/camping, I'm taking them to a Seahawk football game on Dec. 24. | |

I love these | |

These are great. They pack down really small, keep me dry, and are a nice material. They aren't plasticy, but rather feel smooth and soft to the touch. There is a zipper on the bottom which allows you to put them on over shoes, although they don't fit too well over the boots I hike in. My only other complaint would be no pockets. Otherwise, these are great!

"Baby them and they will baby you!"

| These pants are amazing for those looking for lightweight gear without breaking the bank, as that they are reasonably priced for what you are getting and are some of the lightest hard shell pants out there. I would not trust them for every day use but that is just my take on it, given how light and thin they are, but not anything I have tested. | |

"Reed keeps you dry and allows your stuff to breath"
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I love this rain pant! If you want something light and simple these are the ones for you! Let's keep it simple. We already carry enough weight and don't need rain pants that have multiple functions. The Reed keep you dry and allow your stuff to breath...nothing else is needed...end of story. They also roll up really small. | |

The pants are so light I can always take them. They are perfect for the many times when you don't need to wear them but want them along. They worked great on four rainy days in southern Ohio.

Works up to a point | |

GoLite Reed Pant has kept me dry on numerous Montana outings, but proved totally ineffective when we got slammed by an all day storm on the Olympic Peninsula Coast. I suggest that the Pacific NW requires heavier, more waterproof gear overall.
