Men's Footwear > RunningRated: **** by 21 reviews.

Backcountry.com Outlet

The Sun Dragon Men's Trail Running Shoes use GoLite's Metamorphic suspension system to ensure every single lug on the soles bite with every step on a rough trail. Combine this incredible traction with a low 10.9-ounce weight, and the Sun Dragon becomes a major competitor in the trail running shoe category. Their all-synthetic NEOfoam and mesh uppers dry quickly and allow excellent breathability on hot days. GoLite finalized the Sun Dragon Shoes' features with a stabilizing heel cup to reduce chances of a rolled ankle on the rough trails you run.

Runs light and low to the ground

Rating:*****

At first look the new GoLite shoes are a little overwhelming, big lugs, big toe box, bulky. But get them on your feet and you will quickly realize that GoLite did their homework! These shoes are quite light and ride low in the heel and forefoot, making them very stable on technical terrain. The shoes are also very cushy without being destabilizing. I tried on both models and felt the "speed model" was more comfortable and had a closer fit for my narrower heel. This is a shoe that makes you want to keep running. The shoes run a little big, and they have a very wide footbox, great for folks who have wider feet, though they can be made to fit tighter if you use the integrated insoles. Nice construction, durable, great laces, nicely padded tongue, and they don't hold mud.

Great light weight runner

Rating:****

I've used the Sun Dragon for just under a year so far. The shoes are comfortable and very light weight. As mentioned the lugs are gigantic and this is definitely a plus. The sole is slippery when wet but otherwise grips very well. Although mine have held up very well, I have only taken them on moderate to light trails and general use. I can definitely see the possibility of damage on more rugged trails due to the weight of the material. Overall a great purchase for lighter to moderate trails if you are looking for a comfortable lightweight shoe.

4x wheel drive and air shocks for the feet

Rating:*****

I live on Capitol Hill, DC...miles from the mountains of Colorado where these shoes were developed..my running route is over marble steps on the Lincoln Memorial, the Supreme court, concrete side walks and trails scattered with tourists and geese. These shoes provide cushioning and stability like no pair I've ever owned. My knees are in heaven as is the rest of my body. If you want a shoe that runs with you not against you[these are them! Will buy another pair (and another)!

Golite Trail Running Shoe

Rating:*****

I bought these for my boyfriend and a pair of lady ones for myself. I love the ingenious way that you can easily adjust the shoes for widths wide, average, and narrow with inserts that are included in the shoe box. We do a bit of hiking every week over rocky terrains and I run on a 2 1/2 mile trail several times a week. These shoes do give level support in an ultralite format. Has a very comfortable and roomy toe box.

Go Lite Trail Runners

Rating:*****

Go Lite and Timberland produced a winner in the new Go Lite trail running shoes. I have used many different trail running shoes and the Go Lite shoes perform very well. The larger toe box makes this shoe very comfortable. So far I have taken these shoes on any kind of trail and haven't been disappointed. They are very breathable and have a durable tread. I will definitely buy these again when the first pair wears out.

Good while they last

Rating:*****

I bought these shoes and ran hard in them for only six weeks before the tread was torn up, and the upper mesh was ripped. They are very comfortable, but they didn't hold up as they should have. I sent them in to Go Lite five weeks ago and am still waiting on a replacement pair. I want to like them, but they fell apart too quickly for me to buy another pair.

Great racer

Rating:*****

Lite comfort. I've worn these in very rocky downhill races with some steep climbs. Also in mud and sand dunes. For racing and tough trail training. The unique perform well in all conditons and do better than heavier shoes. The mesh uppers wear out rapidly but that is the tradeoff for light weight. For 50 bucks you can't really complain. This is my second pair.

big toe box

Rating:****

I am a woman but wear size 10 men's shoes (unfortunately). These are nice, although the toe box is a little big for someone with narrow feet. Also, I've had them about 1 month and have worn them a few days a week and for hiking and the top of one is getting a hole where it bends.

Great Traction!

Rating:*****

Bought these shoes to play outdoor grass volleyball in. I've had several trail runners that I've used for this purpose, and these are by far the best! Great stability, traction, and after a full day of playing, I didn't have any black toenails (as I have with every other shoe I've tried). Great shoe!

nice shoe!

Rating:****

Light as you would expect. Looks great. Not water resistant - but not advertised as so. Lugs are pretty big, but feels great on a hike. Don't use on a pavement - but again not what the shoe was designed to do. Yes, I would recommend the shoe and the manufacturer.

Negative Reviews:

Very poor quality

Rating:**

Very poor quality. Both shoes had significant structure failures during a recent AR event in Chile. Including tears across the top of the toe box on both shoes & several long tears along the side wear the material simple frayed and separated. IF you are using these shoes for shorter trail runs or short distance fast-backpacking journeys - ok. But avoid for longer technical distances until GoLite improves the quality. (note - I really enjoy the fit & feel of the shoes & the big toe box is a plus with long distances or events)

Odd shoe...from size to shape

Rating:**

This shoe has an incredibly wide toe-box and fails to tighten down on the upper portion of the foot. When running, I found that the shoe had a tendency to "slip" left and right, creating a scary scenario for the ankles. This may stem from the fact that each pair has two sizes, i.e. 10/10.5, making it a hard fit. I would not recommend this shoe. Try the Salomon Speedcross 2 or the Salomon XT Hawk for trail runners that provide stability, ankle support and lightweight functionality.

Hurt my big toe!!

Rating:**

At first I was impressed by the comfort. Then I wore these shoes for 12 hours strait 2 days in a row. The left foot shoe had no support under the big toe and I ended up not being able to hardly walk or run for a week after wearing these beasts. I tried all 3 insole positions and even changed out the insoles to memory foam insoles and they still are unuseable. They also squeak alot on tile floors.... its kinda annoying.

Comfortable but NOT durable...

Rating:**

I thought these shoes were really comfortable right out of the box. As someone with narrow feet and flat arches, I liked the various inserts that the shoe came with. My problem, the durability. I wore these shoes on a few hikes and trail runs and they got shredded. The upper ripped in various places on both shoes and if I encounter any water at all my feet will be drenched.

Durability issues?

Rating:***

Great shoe, I love the feel, cushioning, response & extra large toe box for swollen feet/toes during ultras/long runs. But recently used a pair on a 6 day stage race in Chile & the upper material basic shredded after 3 days. Great shoe for Pacific NW wooded trails, but stay away from harsh terrain with these.

Good Shoe

Rating:***

These shoes are extremely comfortable. They are great for running or just wearing around town. The only drawback is the foam/rubberized covering cracks with wear. Still a great shoe.
