After seeing how the alpine climbing community discovered our award winning Vapor Trail pack for fast and light alpine ascents we decided to build one specifically for the purpose. The Alpine Vapor is patterned after and uses the Vapor Trail suspension, but is built with beefy High Tenacity 210 denier Cordura throughout the pack and High Tenacity 420 Cordura on the bottom to stand up to the punishment of life on the rocks. We also added a Hypalon crampon patch to the front, Tool Loops to the belt and a fixed Voile-style cinch system to secure ice axes to the pack. All this at an ultralight 2 lbs. 10 oz.!
When you're ice or alpine climbing, ounces can be the difference between success and failure. Shave weight and cover more ground with the Granite Gear Alpine Vapor Backpack. Built for the technical winter climber, this bag weighs in at an incredibly light 2lb 10oz and can easily carry everything you need for a multi-day alpine assault. How did Granite Gear pull it off? They kept the features that you need and got rid of everything else. This bag has two tool loops, crampon straps, gear loops on the waist-belt, and that's it. No panel access, no zippers, not even a lid. If you're the type of climber who takes a knife to all your gear before it ever sees a day in the mountains, then you should carry your alpine tools and sawed-off toothbrush in the Alpine Vapor.

"Worth looking at if you need a light alpine pack."
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Lived up to expectations. Light. Over this last alpine season bag material held up to bushwacking and scrambling without any damage-I'm short so there was plenty of dragging on down climbs/scrambles. Stretch side pockets are the only weakness. NIce for the expandability, but fabric does snag and tear easier than smoother coated nylons. Have some repair work when I get bored over the rainy season. PS-Love the catalog. Not sure-is there anything serious in there??? | |

great pack | |

I just used it for 4 days climbing in the high Sierra and it carried really well, even with all of my climbing gear. While it's not as nice as a full-blown pack when you have 40lbs+ (such as on the approach), it worked surprisingly well and the weight difference is worth it. Seems pretty durable so far too.
