The missing link in Granite Gear's Nimbus lineup! The Nimbus Meridian is a top loader with a floating lid/fanny pack and a single vertical zipper front access panel. It was specifically designed to withstand the rigors of the 10,000 miles of hiking our extreme pack tester Justin Lichter endured in 2006. "Trauma", as he is known as on the trail, started November 3rd 2005 and completed over 10,000 miles 356 days later (yes 356 days). Granite Gear utilized the newly released RiRi water resistant tooth zippers for the fanny pack lid and the front access panel because they offer superior durability and water resistance to any other zipper seen. Reflective material on the daisy chains and on the shoulder straps insured Trauma would be seen when road hiking at night, they also make it easier to locate the pack in the dark. For slack packing strip off the lid and use it as a fanny pack. Built with the same frame and harness as Granite Gear's award winning Nimbus Ozone the Meridian pack offers the rare combination of durability, convenience, versatility, and comfort in an ultralight trail pack.

When Justin “Trauma” Lichter told Granite Gear he needed a pack for 10,000miles of hiking, they made him the 3800cu inch Nimbus Meridian Backpack. Though it has enough space for a comfortable weekend trip, this pack is designed to be loaded with ultralight gear and taken on a weeklong (or longer) hike. The 3lb 8oz Nimbus Meridian Backpack's composite Tepex frame easily supports 40 pounds of gear. Granite Gear also gave it a lid that converts to a lumbar pack for short hikes from camp, and they made it hydration compatible to keep the H2O ready all day.

Don't Let This One Get Away!
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I decided on the Nimbus Meridian after looking over several other packs including a Gregory, an Osprey, and a Dueter. This is the best lightweight pack on the market. With loads between 30-40lbs, you really appreciate the quality of the padding and the flexible hipbelt. The backpanel is made of what feels like memory foam, and the other padding is very nice. All of the weight feels as if it is on my hips, it's amazing. I was hoping I would not get a pack made out of glass seeing as it uses very light fabrics. I can tell you that it is very stout. I have no fears of rubbing against rocks or branches. The fabric has proven to be emtremely strong and quite a bit thicker than I had planned on which is nice. There are six, yes six, compression straps on the sides and front. The stitching is fantastic and I have yet to see any stitches that look weak. The lid is very nice as well, and functions perfectly as a hippack when the attatched belt is pulled from it's hiding spot. The option to remove the lid does not leave the pack with a loose top due to the straps able to cross it twice. Minimalists will really appreciate the details when the lid is removed. Still, the space is extremely flexible inside and will fit a 3 liter water bladder. There is also a compression strap system laid out vertically that will hold even a large tent right up against the inside backpanel. The only thing that could be changed about the pack is that it comes wth seemingly endless amounts of extra lengths of straps. These can easliy be trimmed. I will be removing several feet of extra strapping. Do not pass this bag up! The comfort, capacity, and quality of this Granite Gear bag will make you wonder why this isn't the industry standard for medium volume packs. | |

Very Comfortable but has several defects
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Okay, so this thing wins Outside Gear of the Year award. I check it out and wow is it comfortable! But there are several problems with this pack, which Justin Litcher (the guy who used it for 10,000 miles) must not have told GG about. First. It has been an issue before with other GG packs but the lower compression straps run over the stretch pockets and not under! Many packs solve that by having small in the pockets so the straps can run under it. Second. (This goes for both all the Nimbus Meridian and Meridian Vapor) Where the front zipper ends in the bottom there is a big slit that GG did nothing about. Things as big as your rolled pad can literally fall from your pack if you are disorganized!!! I can't believe the company didn't sew that part! (it's where the grey silnylon and the tougher bottom fabric meet) That could have easily be mended by adding velcro or stitching to hold it together. Third. The weight. It's advertized as being 3lbs 8oz for the medium. All three Meridians I weighted were 5oz or more heavier and they ALL weighted 3lbs 13oz for the medium. Something to keep in mind if you are after the weight savings. All in all it's a great pack. I was able to trim the excess straps on mine and cut down another 3oz bringing my pack's weight to 3lbs 10oz. Still heavier than advertised but GG is not the only company that lies about product weight and they won't be the last. | |

Lightweight. Durable, and Perfect for the AT
| Rating: | ![]() |
Getting ready to thruhike the AT, starting Mar. 8th 2009, and have tried several backpacks to see what will work the best with me. Started out my training using an Arc'Teryx Needle 65, it's an oldie but goodie, and found that while my pack weight of 40lbs. was successfully transferred to my hips, the shoulder pads were pinchin' my neck meat, as Kip from Napoleon Dynamite would say. It's a pack just not meant for extended trips. Then there was the Deuter Aircontact Lite 65+10...this pack never fit me properly. If you want to know a little secret, it's unisex if that tells you anything. The Aircontact's suspension is comfortable and can hold a ton but the pack never fit the same and the straps would need readjusting 4 times every mile... just annoying. Then I decided I'd try this little gem of a backpack and my oh my was I impressed. It's so light and comfy, the pads around your waist and shoulders feel amazing, and it can hold 50lbs. of gear if rigged correctly, just like the guy in the picture said below. I hiked 28 miles in one day with this pack from 9am till 4am the next morning and stopped only twice for a half hour at the longest for meals...this pack is amazingly comfortable. It distributes the weight perfectly to your hips, the backpad is super squishy, the straps never need readjusting, the pocket placement is superb. There's not one thing wrong I can find with this pack! I swear by it.

Outstanding lightweight backpack

| I can't believe this is onsale for [$]. If you use the[$] coupon ending today, you can get this outstanding pack for less than $130. I paid full retail in April at [$] Just returned this week from 50 miles on the JMT. Carried about 40 pounds. This is by far the most comfortable pack I've ever used. Even had 1/2 liter of white gas leaked all over pack and it showed no sign of damage. The unique frame provides plenty of support and there are tons of adjustments to get the right fit. Top pouch is detachable and includes a belly strap for day hikes. Pack is not water proof as I did have some leakage at the zippers but it's definitely water resistant. Heavy rains you should use a pack cover. It has a simple design with no frills. There are 2 side stretchy pockets that appear very durable. When bouldering, I held my trek poles in these pockets and strapped them down. No wear or tears. Main compartment is large and includes a bladder holder. I would suggest using compression sacks for your clothes unless you're ultralight hiker and you may not need them. I had plenty of room for 10 days of clothing and gear plus a Garcia bear can and 4L of water. I would highly recommend and at this price, it's an absolute best buy. You won't be disappointed! | |

Awesome pack from USA | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I use this for several day backpacking trips on the Superior Hiking Trail, right where this pack is put together in Two Harbors MN. It's an awesome pack from a great company. It's customizable with straps, hipbelt, bolts in frame, and most can make it fit beautifully which to me is the most important thing with a pack. It's also durable since not made from all ultralight materials. This pack can take a beating. It's got thick padding and unlike many packs in this size/weight range, it can handle 40-45 lbs. Many hipbelts in this range sag bigtime when above 30-35, this one won't! Don't let this deal slip by if you are looking for a pack that will serve for trips from 2-5 days easily. Only downside is that there are no pockets that you can easily get into while the pack is on, you will have to buy extra for this purpose. Also not the perfect pack for the ultralight nut, it's really for people that aren't totally into this but don't want a super heavy pack either. | |

Awsome pack | |

| I have taken this pack on several hikes and outings and it holds everything that I needed and more. I am trying to get my pack weight down to close to Minimalist and right now I am right between this and Comfort Driven (last weight was 36lbs including water and food 4 3 days and a 2 person tent) and this pack held it all with so much comfort and ease. For those who are in between like I am you will love this pack it allows you to have most of the comforts without the back braking loads some of the other packs let you take and then you can customize the rest of your gear to get your pack weight down even more. Great starting point for everyone!!! | |

Amazing | |

| Amazing purchase. The day after it arrived by mail: i had all my backpacks unavailable, including the small ones, and i had to get this for a hike on snowy mountains.Plus, i had to use it as a luggage cause i was going to stop in those places two days more after the hike. Well, it's so light that when i lifted it, i almost accidenatally throw it out of the window. During the hike i could forget that i had a bag on my shoulders. Adding that it's well made, in cordura, it's really good in wet conditions and there's plenty of space, i think you should seriously consider this. | |

The dream pack | |

| Although i typically go for a smaller pack. After purchasing this pack i feel alot more comfortable traveling and staying out for longer periods of time. This pack doesnt come with all the bells and whistles of a typical 60 liter pack. This pack can go anywhere and do everything from a weekend trip to the entire AT. You will not be dissatisfied with this pack. The padding on the shoulders and hip belts mold to you after time and the sil nylon shell of the bag is super lightweight and durable. If you are condisering a 60 liter pack. Look no further this will suffice any hikers dream pack. | |

Simply Amazing Pack!!!

| Granite Gear makes the best line of ultra-light packs on the market. PERIOD!!! The Nimbus Meridian is a great pack for overnight trips and weekends. In warm weather you could use it for a weeklong trip. The top lid/ fanny pack feature is a nice touch too. The materials are very light weight, but don't think for one second that they aren't sturdy. The adjustable internal frame on this one is very user-friendly. It transfers the weight to your hips very well. Loads of around 20-25 pounds feel like they weigh 20-25 ounces. I highly recommend this pack for the ultra-light backpacker who wants to go on extended trips. | |

First Pack I've Worn Comfortably
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Purchased this summer and used on two backpacking trips. 4-day in Cloud Peak wilderness and 3-day in Holy Cross Wilderness. Loaded to a peak weight of 45 pounds. Extremely comfortable with a great fit. Hip belt worked without needing to be ridiculously tight like my other packs. Fabric is light weight but pack looks and functions like new after it's first two trips. Unattached front flap at bottom of zipper was unusual but when packed, that area becomes tight and closes up. Loss of contents was not a concern to me. This thing's a winner! | |
