The Gregory Jade 40 is a weekend-sized pack for women who have Adirondack overnights and New Hampshire hut trips on their to-do list.
The Jade 40 sits right at the balance point of the Gregory women's line in terms of weight, volume and carrying capacity. Overnights are where it excels, but longer trips are within reach for experienced packers. The main compartment is accessible through the top and via a long side-access zipper on the left side. Additional pockets are found on the hood, front of the pack, and the hip belt, so you can stay organized.
The Jetstream LTS suspension featured on theJade 40 is anchored by a large and well-padded lumbar pad, which is one of the pack's most-praised features. The shape of the lumbar pad and back panel open up additional airspace behind your back, allowing for better ventilation and giving "Jetstream" its name. The shoulder straps are fixed, but the hipbelt adjusts to a full range of sizes regardless of which torso length you pick, so it can adapt to changing waistlines - changing, we hope, because you're losing weight while through-hiking the PCT, and not the other way around.

Nice pack
AFter a few uses I haven't had any problems with the zippers & the cords for tightening work good too. I like the fact that there is a side way into the pack & the little extra pockets. I can't wait to find all sorts of things to stuff in them.
The waist strap adjusted to me nicely & was very comfortable, very comfortable. The cushion for the lower back was great. At first I didn't have the shoulder straps tight enough so the weight was not sitting on the hips right (but not unbearable). Once I got home & readjusted everything there's been no looking back. I am really enjoying using this pack & look forward to more uses. Living in Europe is really going to help make that happen.
I am 5'6" & ordered the small, it is a very nice fit. I put it on my 10 yr old daughter & if hard pressed I could adjust it down to her size, but I'll wear it myself. Maybe I'll get her one of her own.
