Gregory Raincover -
So when it rains it pours, and with that being said, anyone who lives anywhere near the big water knows that if you’re going to live and play in the Pacific Northwest you had better have the proper gear (seriously, we could give Ireland a run for its money were so green here). You must have head to toe all weather protection and that means rain gear…for your head, body (upper and lower), and feet. Why exactly shouldn’t your backpack have the same protection in the form of a rain cover? For packs that don’t come with a rain cover, Gregory has provided a fully taped rain cover providing complete waterproof protection to make sure your gear stays dry inside your backpack and it comes in five different sizes to cover whatever sized backpack you have. A happy camper, hiker, or mountaineer is a dry one, which means dry gear and Gregory knows it.

Positive Reviews:

First off, some comments about sizing and compatibility. I sized way up in order to make sure the pack cover was wide enough to protect the tent I usually strap to the outside of my pack. This sort of worked, though the solution left me wishing I had sized up even more. It covered the tent but left the sides of the pack a bit exposed. Not ideal.
There is also an issue with fitting. You need to make sure that your bag is not flat bottomed, other wise the elastic will just slide off the bottom of the pack instead of wrapping around against the pack below your waistbelt. Same applies for the top.
Other than these issues, the cover does a great job of keeping your crap dry. Fitting issues just make it a bit difficult to use. I'd imagine it is compatible with most standard expedition packs, but less so universal with day packs and smaller volume bags. Also helps if your pack is full and not half empty..

This worked great for me backpacking through Europe where we experienced 10 - 14 days of rain. Everything inside stayed bone dry. Water will still run down the between you and the backpack, but assuming you have rain gear on it shouldn't be a problem. It is a bit expensive, but it's a quality product as with everything from Gregory. I havent' had a bad experience yet with the company and I have 3 of their bags. They're simply awesome.

This is a great pack cover, as well made as the pack. Xtra-large for the denali. Well thought out design. Hated to spend the money after buying the pack but I'm glad I did. Just wish they offered it in green or and I hate to say it camo. Don't hate me, just don't like to stand out like a sore thumb in the woods. You can see a lot if you're not seen.

A great Waterproof cover that lasts

I have used this cover once while Bivy sacking and once whil backpacking in New Mexico. Both times it performed very well, the raincover kept my pack dry all night whill I was in my bivy sack. I also performed well in New Mexico, though i had a thermarest strapped to the outside of the pack and that prevented good coverage when I tried to put the cover on.

I have a Gregory Z65 and I bought the medium and it works well, but I wish I would have upsized a size because it gets pretty tight when I start attaching things to outside of the pack. I love it other than my mistake, it has great weather protection and the blue is really awesome!

completely covered dry!

This worked best in the steady rain that lasted most of day during the day-hike. Inside of my bag was totally dry, I was so pleased.

Surprised by its compactness

I will use it for the first time at the coming K2 trek in Northern Pakistan. Then i should be able to give proper review.

Negative Reviews:

I bought a small cover for my 45L pack and it is WAY too large. The sizing chart is inaccurate. I should have bought an XS. I don't know how well it will work since it is so loose on my pack.

HyunJi Boo at Backcountry.com on 01/06/2012

Neutral Reviews:

I bought this for a Arcteryx Bora 65 pack. I bought the Med and when I received it I stuffed a few items in the pack just to fill it out so I could check the fit. Well it will cover it.....barely! Fully stuffed or with anything attached to the outside and it's a no-go. I already ordered a Large and will most likely return the Med.
The sizing is shown as a Med fitting a 60-80L pack so I figured it would easily accommodate my 65L bag. Don't be fooled the sizing is way small. Figure out what size it says you should get and order one size larger.

Roger Ault at Backcountry.com on 10/18/2013

I can't honestly give much opinion on function but the sizing would confuse anyone.
According to Gregory website:
Size Volume Weight Dimensions
XS 20-35 L
S 35-60 L
M 60-80 L
L 80-100 L
XL 100-120 L
The label on the one I just received says XS 55-65L. I ordered the XS thinking it would fit a 34L pack. I guess it is a good thing I own a 65L it will fit also.
If I was rating the experience of purchasing with all of the confusion I would give it a 1. The cover looks like it will do a fair job so I gave it 3.

Roger Ault at Backcountry.com on 12/22/2011

Despite the light weight, it protects my pack well, good buy and fast shipping from backcountry. Only setback is the price.
