You don't need to haul in an external frame expedition pack for a pleasant couple days' hike in the local mountain range, likewise you need ample space for gear, Gregory's Z35-R backpack is the perfect compromise between weight and space. Load it up through the convenient rolltop closure and and cinch up the side and bottom compression straps; once you do, you still have more room for a spare jacket, trail maps, and on-the-go snacks in the expandable front bucket pocket and quick access waistbelt pockets.
Like its big brother, the Gregory Z 35-R Backpack is lightweight and features the same rugged, ventilating suspension system. But this 2,135-cubic-inch backpack is ideal for long day hikes or a quick overnighter. Gregory's Jet Stream suspension system allows for air flow so you don't sweat to death underneath your pack, thanks to a perforated frame sheet and a mesh back panel. Aluminum stays provide lightweight but sturdy vertical load support, and scapula and lumbar pads make carrying your gear more comfortable. Both the waist-belt and harness have moisture-wicking mesh to keep you dry underneath your straps. Access your gear through the roll-top lid. Stash anything you want within easy reach, such as a shell or energy bars, in the external pockets or the waist-belt pockets. Water-resistant zippers help keep light precipitation away from your gear. The high-quality ripstop nylon combines durability and low weight.
The Gregory Z 35 is little brother to the award winning Z 55. Built for all day comfort the z 35 uses Gregory's JetStream DTS technology so the weight of your gear rests directly on the framesheet.

The Z35-R cuts weight and complexity by sporting a roll top style main access. Great for times when you need more options and capacity then your typical day pack.

Comfertable... Enough Said
| Rating: | ![]() |
The suspension on this pack is super comfertable, and the arched back keeps your back from overheating. The design of this pack is what sets it appart. The roll top allows me to access the main compartment in a flash, and saves some weight too. The large zippered pocket on the front comes in handy for items you need often. Then there is the bucket pocket, my favorite part about this pack. This thing is awesome...I keep my camp shoes and rain gear in it, but it is perfect for any large bulky item, anything you need access to quickly, or wet or really dirty items you don't want in the pack. The pack is small and fits tight to the body... making it perfect for scrambling, and bushwacking. I don't know how much weight can be carried comfertably, but I usually keep mine around 25 and it feels great.

"Great Pack!! Great Design!!"

| I purchased this pack for my day hiking and 1 day overnight adventures. I had purchased a 4000 square bag earlier in the year and wanted something to supplement that and my other smaller bag. I use this bag almost every chance I can. The bag is very light, extremely easy to use and very trendy. The best thing about this bag is the support system. I have to say that I can carry just as much in this pack as I can my 4000 sqare pack and it feels lighter in this baby! The top opens up kind of like a sandwhich bag folded over, which is a bit different from the standard zip down type of bag. I honestly can't think of anything negative to say about it. Great purchase... | |

Awesome Pack | |

I have had this pack for about 8 months now and it is great. The first 3 months of owning it I was doing conservation work in Flagstaff, AZ. I put the pack through hell. Because I was a sawer the pack was always holding 3L of water, all of my saw accessories, work tools, lunch, and a first aid kit. It was probably about 35lbs in it at all times if not a little more. Anyways it made it with only one rip from one of the teeth on my saw, hardly a defect. All in all, I Highly recommend this fast and light day pack.

Perfect midsize pack | |

Great pack for day hikes or even an overnighter. Extremely light and comfortable on your back and a lot more durable than the pictures would suggest (pictures make the material look very thin but it's actually quite strong). The roll top is great and compression straps all around help stabilize the load. The outside pocket is perfect too for stowing a sweatshirt or jacket as you start to overheat from a strenuous climb. Very pleased with the quality of construction. Picked up a size medium off SAC for an unbeatable price.

Certainly recommended, but not for Ultra-light purists

Great pack. It is a bit heavy for it's size, by no means an "ultralight" (my 75L pack weighs 47oz.) but certainly does the job well at carrying a full load. Used it on early season overnight trips and was able to carry all the gear, plus carry the sleeping pad and tent via the external straps. Wasn't sure I'd like the roll-top, but now wouldn't go back to zippers as the roll-top is lighter (slightly), quick to access, more convenient, more leak resistant, and functionally near fail-proof.

I've had this pack for over a year now, and I have loved it! I have taken it on trips to Guatemala, Costa Rica, Hawaii, Belize, Puerto Rico, and numerous camping/hiking trips from Southern Utah to Wyoming. It has held up very well, and I like how light it is while at the same time it is able to carry all my essentials. I recommend this pack.

Best Pack I've ever owned

The roll up top makes loading much much easier than a conventional closing top. The 35L space is an understatement- or so it seems. The harness is a god send. At right at 3lbs this is the best bet to kick off your ultra light pursuits.

I got my pack today and it holds everything i would need for a day hike and more. It would also work well for a single night camping trip.
