I used to own Petzl Vasak's, I was hiking MT. Washington and on the way down was having a horrible time with snow balling under my feet, it was causing my ankles to rotate every single step . . . I was loosing traction and almost sprained my ankle every single step (it was dangerous situation, especially if I was in more serious / stranded location). My buddy had the Grivels with no problems, so I just bought them . . . better grip than the vasak (the front side spikes are deeper, and have a better angle when using french tech) and they did not ball once this last trip. They are much heavier than Sabretooth or Vasak, but I dont care . . . a sprained ankle, or fall at elevation is not worth saving a pound.
I have used these for 9 seasons now; they are still wearing great and climbing strong. They only time I don't take them is for all ice days (BD Bionics are superior for that venue). The steel is strong and sharpens well. Antibot plates are better than my black diamond pairs. Make sure you knot the strap because it will loosen while kicking steps.
