The Air Tech Racing Ice Axe by Grivel is a new version of the lightest, forged steel ice axe in the world. The shaft resists 280kg when tested according to the UIAA methods, and is finished with a new asymmetrical steel spike. Air Tech Racing is for people who want the lightest possible tool but are not willing to sacrifice the strength and durability of a genuine, forged Chromolly steel head. S.A. shaft, also available with Slider, the new hand rest that slides to the top of the shaft when sunk in snow or to the bottom to support hand in traction.

The Grivel Air Tech Racing Ice Axe is ideal for mountaineers searching for the lightest possible tool without sacrificing the strength and durability of a genuine, hot-forged steel head. The Air Tech Racing Ice Axe weighs only 14.1oz and is still durable enough to take the abuse that alpine climbing and mountaineering dishes out. Its hot-forges pick and adze take a beating that would reduce most lightweight ice axes to scrap metal. Updated with a slightly curved shaft, the Air Tech Racing Ice Axe is now easier to use for self arrest and clears ice bulges better.

Light, but rugged axe. | |

| I already have an Air Tech Evo axe, which I love. I have used it for self- and group- arrest (roped up on a glacier) and even some alpine ice climbing. The Air Tech Racing has a similar head, so I have no doubts that it will both self-arrest in snow and penetrate lower-angled ice well. Unlike the Evo however, the teeth on the pick are beveled slightly, and the tip of the pick seems a bit thinner. I think this will translate well to performance on ice. This newer model also has a steel spike, unlike the 'core sampler' the old one had. I also like the wide adze for chopping and digging. It's a little heavier than a 70cm BD Raven Pro, but overall I prefer it. No worrie | |

| Sexy axe. Got this to replace my Raven Pro. So far its only been used in north dakota, and minnesota back-country, but the performance so far is definitely a forshadow of how well it will do in Alaska this May. The weight is very confortable. Nice wide adze and sharp pick I recommend getting the Grivel axe guard for transporting. Can't wait till Denali! | |

| the only mountaineering axe i have and will ever use. it is so light and weight is everything at altitude. precise enough to climb with and strong enough to belay with. why carry anything heavier. | |

This is a decent all purpose axe, which is high praise considering its ridiculous lightness. Sometimes ultralight gear isn't worth the price, this is! | |
