Gun Vault Biometric Speed Vault

The GunVault Biometirc Speed Vault is a good product if your looking for a secure, yet quick to access way of storing a handgun. The unit mounted in under 15 min securely to the wall next to my night stand and holds my M&P 45 Compact very well. The led light that comes on when the door drops open is a nice feature to see what you are doing. Only complaint is that when programming the fingerprints, the instructions say to swipe your finger twice and the unit should beep twice, saving the fingerprint, however I had to swipe my finger four times before it would save. Overall, I would highly recomend this product. Well worth the money.

Great safe

I bought this gun safe to keep my handgun out of reach of my daughter but yet ready if the need were to arise. Mounting this safe to the wall was very easy. I like that when the door drops open a light turns on to see what you are doing. My full frame Glock with a tactical light fits securely.

Needs Better Technology

This safe claims to be a quick draw safe, for those times when you don't have any time to get your firearm. However, the fingerprint scanner is not fast and it is very far from full-proof. Once you have programed your fingerprint into the scanner, to open the safe you must calmly and slowly slide your finger across the scanner over a period of one to two seconds. Ask yourself this, If you just woke up in the middle of the night to an intruder or you're running away from an intruder and need your firearm immediately, what about you will be calm and slow? To make matters worse, even when calm and slow the fingerprint scanner doesn't always open the safe on the first try. This safe is meant to be used when you most need it; therefore, it must open on the first try every time. When GunVault upgrades this device to a fingerprint scanner pad, where all I need to do is hold my finger still against the pad and the safe will open every time, I will purchase the safe again (i.e. when they design a fingerprint safe that can be opened quickly and easyily even in the middle of the night, when I'm sleepy, scared and frantic). In my opinion, if you are ever under the situation where a firearm is needed immediately, this safe will possibly be your end. For now, I am going to buy the same safe but with the push button pad instead of the fingerprint scanner.

Needs work

Problems:
1. Poor instruction manual. doesn't even tell you how to install the batteries.
2. You have to uninstall the front drawer to mount. Not trivial to reinstall. Again no instructions.
3. Installing the top most burl knob requires micro hands. Hopefully you have a child or wife with small hands to reach in and do it.
4. Took at least 4 swipes, not 2, to record the fingerprint for both my wife and myself.
5. I agree with another reviewer that this DOES NOT open quickly. You have to SLOWLY drag your finger print across the scanner and hope it opens - which it does maybe half the time. So when the bad guy is in your bedroom, you better hope he gives you a minute and that you and/or your wife have nerves of steel to calmly drag your finger across the scanner -- perhaps several times.
