Hareline Ice Dub Reviews:

Flashy, Versatile Dubbing

I tie hundreds of flies each year for fresh and salt species. My go-to flies for any fish incorporate ice dub in some way or another. And that's just my point--this stuff is versatile. With an average length of 3/4-1", you can use it in so many ways. Dub it sparsely by hand for a tight, narrow bodied nymph or fry, spin it in a loop for bigger minnows and leeches, or tie a fat clump of it in to beef up baitfish patterns. The fine profile of these fibers gives them a lot of motion in the water, and it allows you to blend colors easily and trim the final product to shape without it looking like a buzz-cut. The ONLY downside to this product is that the length and stiffness is inconsistent across colors. The pearl tends to be ideal with 1" length and fine, supple texture. But the olive is short and curly, which doesn't lend itself to use in larger patterns. The yellow and pink colors tend to be long but stiffer. Overall, though, I have no hesitations about using or recommending this product. It's caught me a lot of fish.

This stuff is for real

I became a believer of UV ice dub after a friend of mine (who has forgotten more about trout fishing than I'll ever know) tied up some streamers using this material. Literally a trout on every cast. To prove it was the dubbing, I threw every other pattern and material of streamer that I owned with only a couple of strikes. Back to the Ice dub and again every cast. I think the fish see this stuff better or at least differently enough to induce more strikes. I am experimenting with it on emergers and various nymphs to see if it makes a difference there. Definitely did on the streamer. 5 stars.
