The cycling industry sets the bar high in the world of industrial design aesthetics, and the HED H3 FR Wheels are definitely no exception. Add the aesthetics to the research and development that places them at the forefront of aerodynamic innovation, and you have wheels with low rolling resistance, advanced aerodynamic properties, and stability — all in one package.
The H3 Wheelset achieves its low-drag utilizing a 55mm deep section rim, airfoil section spokes, and smooth connection points where the two are joined. In doing so HED has eliminated drag resistance from every angle of the wheel. The deep section is designed to minimize drag at shallow yaw angles and the spokes' shape allows airflow to keep the wheel from stalling. Unlike the wider C2 rims that HED has become known for, it used a very narrow 19mm rim on the H3s. This allows the wheel clearance in the narrowest of frames.
The H3 was constructed of carbon layup, resins, and fiber orientations that are the most advanced to date. Additionally, HED has developed SCT (Stability Control Technology), its "secret weapon" that tames crosswinds at every angle to the wheel. SCT effectively decreases the rim depth's reaction to crosswinds without physically decreasing the size of the wheel.
Rim shape, spoke shape , and SCT innovation send the HED H3 FR Wheels to the front of the peloton. And although HED designs quite a few fast wheels, this is the fastest option for those races when discs are not allowed. They are perfect for the long distance triathlete or a smaller time trialist who may not be able to handle a solid disc in a strong crosswind.
The HED H3 FR Wheels are available individually as front or rear. The Rear wheel is available in both Shimano/SRAM or Campagnolo. They include a titanium skewer and rachet ring. The maximum recommended rider weight is 250lbs.
