HED Stinger 3 FR Tubular Wheelset
When all your races seem to go uphill, you want a lightweight, aerodynamic wheelset that almost climbs by itself. HED's Stinger 3 FR is so lightweight and fast that only your opponents will feel the sting, not your legs.
The Stinger 3 are the first in the line of HED's Stinger wheels. What that means is that they have the shallowest profile of the series. Constructed using HED's proprietary C2 tubular rim, these wheels address the two C's: lower coefficient of rolling resistance (Crr) and better aerodynamics (Cda). The rims on the Stinger 3 are 25mm while most tubular rims are around 19mm. It makes a big difference. Whereas riding on skinny tires has been the norm, when you pair a wider rim with say, a 25mm tire, the footprint of the tire changes. It grips better in a straight line and in turns because the tire has a straighter sidewall and deforms less at high pressure. It will also, contrary to popular belief, have lower rolling resistance. HED's C2 rims was tested, in fact, by Continental Tires. It features 18% less rolling resistance than typical narrower rims and less airflow is disturbed. The result? More laminar air flow and a lower aerodynamic drag. As we're sure you've noticed, the industry is slowing following suit.
In addition to its C2 rims, HED constructed the Stinger 3's with its SCT technology. Stability Control Technology means that the wheel was tuned in accordance to handling at its depth. It strikes the ideal balance between cross wind handling and aerodynamic gains without compromising the Stinger's weight or rigidity. The combination of C2 rims and SCT design enables HED to create a lightweight, wheel that will feel like it's rolling uphill on its own.
The carbon rims are built around Carbon Sonic FR hubs and Sapim CX-Ray bladed spokes with 18 on the front and 24 on the rear wheel. Titanium skewers and valve extenders are included.
HED's Stinger 3 FR wheelset is available in both Shimano (11-speed compatible) and Campagnolo. The Wheelset weighs 1188 grams and the suggested rider weight limit is 190lbs.
