Take time to break them in. Nice looking shoe. Very stiff leather which is taking time to break in. They're getting better with wear. The lining crowds the toes a bit but this is also subsiding. A half-size larger might help some, but for my particular foot, the shoe would have been TOO loose. The shoes arrived much sooner than I expected. Great service. Thanks!

Great work shoes - In my job, I need shoes that look good enough for office wear but are often exposed to wet conditions. These shoes are VERY heavy duty but still look great and keep my feet dry. I felt that the soles wore thin a little sooner than I'd like, but otherwise they've held up great!

A great work shoe - Very well made, comfortable and great walking shoe for someone with a bad back. I wear them all day at work and at the end of the day, no sore feet. They are a little heavy and take several weeks to break in, but after that, a great shoe.

They're keepers - I'm 2-3 weeks into the Irish Setter Oxfords. Previous reviewers noted they required some break in time. Mine did. The size was true for me. They are strong, and good for all weathers, and ruggedly good looking. They are keepers.

Consider carefully - I wrote an earlier review on this shoe and feel I have to amend it considerably. The Gore-Tex lining crowds the toe box, did not break in as I had hoped, and pressures the upper side of the toes. Stretching didn't help. A half-size larger, at least, MAY have helped but the shoe had fore-aft movement on my foot already. The inside of the shoe has begun to smell foul. Disinfectants and deodorizers help temporarily, but the odor returns. No, I do not have a foot odor problem. I have never encountered this in any other shoe. I regret not having returned them, as they must now be thrown out with relatively little outer and sole wear. What a waste!

Awesome package, real world disappointment. Probably the best shoes you'll find for work: great sole, great craftsmanship and they look good. It was everything I wanted, but they don't fit well at all, and my feet were happy to get out of these ones. I tested/wore them for approximately 8-10 hours in my house over a two day period. From the get-go, the toe box is too cramped. I'm sick of Gore-Tex. There are too many shoes, especially hiking boots that use it. Not only does it increase the cost, but most of the time you will never need it. Makes feet hot, sweaty and smelly. I don't care what they say, Gore-Tex doesn't "breathe". In this case, it is taking up precious space for my foot. One more problem: the "padded cuff" or opening around your ankle may rub against the ankle bone (that knobby bone in either side of the ankle). Made mine really sore, there's no way I could wear these all day at work. I love the look and execution. Excellent craftwork, great soles, but the fit really missed the mark. I really wanted to love these ones, but I'm returning for some Timberland Pro Titan Oxfords at a cheaper price. Let's see how those ones rate.

Update on replacement shoe. I regretfully returned the Irish Setter Countrysiders GTX oxfords, and replaced them with Timberland Pro Titan Oxfords soft toe (not the safety toe). This is a totally different experience. Super comfortable! No break in; like I've had them a year. So easy to walk in and comfortable. The construction isn't as beefy and sturdy as the Irish Setters; the look is a tad bit "off" for me, for what I was looking for in the look and finish, compared to the Irish Setters, but they are so comfortable, so I'm definitely keeping the Timberlands. Too bad the Irish Setters didn't work out. I have several other pairs of Irish Setter boots for hunting and just walking about, and they fit fine, but I expect it's the additional Gore-Tex layer crowding out the toe box, or maybe the lasts they use are different from the other shoes I have. I hated to send them off. I recommend the Timberland's if you found Countrysiders uncomfortable. One more thing, I am flat footed and always replace the inserts with some type of high arch orthotic. The Countrysider and the Timberland will both take beefier orthotics.
