Jetboil Group Cooking System

Hiking & Camping > Stoves & FuelRated: ***** by 13 reviews.

Altrec

This backpacking stove has so many great features, it's hard to know where to begin. However, Jetboil® loyalists everywhere certainly agree that it's not one feature alone that stands above the rest but the sum of many features that combine to produce impressive fuel efficiency. Tests show that the Jetboil® Group Cooking System (GCS) captures 75-80% of available heat, compared to the 30-40% of standard camping stoves. No wonder it received a 2006 Editor's Choice Award from Backpacker magazine. The Jetboil® GCS utilizes innovative integration technology to connect burner, heat exchanger, and pot such that they appear as one tight fitting unit. The end result is four minute boil times and test results showing that a 3.5 oz. canister of Jetboil® Jetpower propane / isobutane fuel brings 12 liters of water to a boil. The tight fitting interfaces make it hard for the wind to find a way in, and the FluxRing™ (fancy word for heat exchanger) enabled pot captures virtually all available heat from the burner, concentrating it on the bottom of the pot. The Jetboil® GCS's cooking pot also contributes to the top-rate fuel efficiency. It comes with an insulating cozy that does its part to retain heat, and is made of hard-anodized aluminum with conductivity superior to stainless steel and titanium. When the time comes to break camp, the entire stove system fits inside the pot. For those who want to show off their culinary skills in the backcountry, the GCS is compatible with other cookware for browning, frying, and sauteing. One other feature that cannot go without mention is the piezo igniter for quick, matchless lighting. If typically cooking for just 1-2 people and keeping the meals simple, check-out the Jetboil® Personal Cooking System (PCS). It comes with a 1 liter pot / mug combo but can be transformed into a GCS with separate purchase of the Jetboil® 1.5 Liter Cooking Pot and Jetboil® Pot Support and Stability Kit. Likewise, the GCS can be made into a PCS with separate purchase of the Jetboil® 1 Liter Companion Cup.

Simmer, fry, or sauté for groups with this flexible 1.5 liter system. Ideal for gourmet cooking, scouts, family camping, snow melting.

Jetboil’s new Group Cooking System (GCS) brings greater capacity and versatility to fast and efficient outdoor cooking. It features Jetboil’s new 1.5 Liter pot with patent-pending FluxRing™ heat exchanger to double heat transfer efficiency and enable super-fast boil times.

Like the original Jetboil®, the GCS is twice as fuel efficient as traditional camp cooking systems and will bring two cups of water to boil in about two minutes, or a liter in about four minutes. Its FluxRing™ heat exchanger allows the GCS to boil up to 50 cups (12 Liters) of water from one micro-canister of Jetpower fuel.

The GCS integrates a burner with built-in igniter, 1.5 liter pot, pot support, and stabilizer into one compact unit. The 1.5 liter pot is made from hard-anodized aluminum for even heating and superior heat transfer, and features a wide aperture for easy frying and simmering, an insulating Neoprene cozy, and a snap on plastic lid for secure storage. All components, as well as fuel, stow within the pot so you can take it anywhere.

As the new GCS and original Jetboil PCS share the same burner base, the systems are cross-compatible, allowing users to add components to each to create a customized cooking system. In addition the GCS can also be used with traditional flat-bottomed cookware.

"Great Product"

Rating:****
Replaced my old super fly and titanium cook set with this beauty. The pot is large enough for all my needs from frying, boiling to stewing. The lid, when inverted - aka, flipped upside downmakes a world of difference and it doesn't deform either, is solid when cooking. The plastic flex protector is a nice little plate. I place a handkerchief inside the pot, then put all the stove, fuel, pot stand for pot, and my coffee making mesh kit plus a lighter. It is a bit heavier by about 7 ounces but the added weight has its benefits. Over all I am very content with the unit and have used it for the last year or so with no issues. The Piezo however was a sore point. It was not consistent in igniting

"Simple and easy to use."

Rating:****
Several of my scouts have this stove. It's simple for them to use, with very little risk of problems. It also is fast and efficient. That said, the system is limiting. It works great with the included pot, but not so well with other pots. The pot sits very high, which means that scouts sitting on the ground are likely to knock it over when they get up. Scouts playing mumbly-peg close by are sure to give it a kick when the dodge the knife (of course, my scouts are not allowed to do that). It is expensive compared to stoves that function as well.

"Good group buy."

Rating:****
A pretty good buy, works well to boil water, about 6 minutes for the whole pot. The whole thing fits nicely inside of the pot unless you have the larger fuel can. It is pretty light weight, easy to use and easy to maintain. It is a bit top heavy when filled so using the tripod is a must. Also a bit tricky to get off the burner, lift strait off an there isn't a problem, the coil tends to pull the whole burner with it. Overall pretty good for a small group.

Jetboil is awesome!

Rating:*****
I bought this for my boyscout and he loves it! It is lightweight, and easy to use, even for a twelve year old! It fits right in his pack, and he can cook up enough for 2-4 boys to share or he can cook up just enough for himself.[...]

"Hot Stove!"

Rating:*****
This is a very efficient little stove. I also have the mug that goes with it. It boils fast, works well at altitude (13800) and is lightweight.

"Boils quickly and easy to use"

Rating:*****
Loved the system for ease of use, but a few times when it was cold, it took a while to ignite...but eventually did.
