Great but short sleeves!

Looking for a good, super-warm, every day coat, I had had my eye on these duffels for a long time. I had a tough time deciding which size of this coat to order, as I'm a pretty standard size 8 but often have to order up in shirts and jackets because of broad shoulders. Although some reviews advised ordering up a size, other online info regarding John Partridge coats indicated that they are, if anything, large in the shoulders, so I went with an 8. It fit perfectly EXCEPT that the sleeves were incredibly short! I do not have long arms, and if anything often find sleeves run long on me. So, for the first time in my life at 5'5", I ordered the tall version of the coat for comparison, and it fit like a charm; the sleeves were perfect and the extra hem length, to me, is a bonus, especially when sitting in cold conditions. So I'll be returning this regular one, but would highly recommend the coat in any size or length. It's very warm, flattering and well-made. One other observation: the neckline is surprisingly low with no collar to button up around your neck (there is a piece that buttons across the neck to cinch the hood in close, but it doesn't really count in terms of keeping your neck warm), but that does leave space for a nice scarf or thick turtleneck!

It's a DREAM COME TRUE! After 25 years.

It's true ... I've waited for about 25 years after lusting after an L. L. Bean red duffle coat with hood when I was in college. I couldn't afford it then. I'm so glad this classic style is back in high fashion. Although the red was sold out in my size, I ordered navy and red in a smaller size to compare then returned the red which is a bit too orange-red for me. The navy looks very good on me and will never go out of style.

Waiting has been worth it because this English invention, John Partridge duffle coat is handmade in London. It is very well constructed of fabric woven in Italy. What could be better? I don't know where the sheep were raised, but the wool is is very soft and dense with long fibers. The specially designed hood is very pretty, not just utilitarian.

The fit of the size 40 is just right on me ... 5' 6" and 168 pounds with 43" bust. I'm still planning to lose more weight, so I look forward to wearing it for the next 20 years.

Thank you, Sierra Trading Post, for making this excellent product available.

The coat is in Chest size, NOT euro size

I wear EURO 36, to I ordered size 34 and 36 and thought I would keep 34 because ppl said it runs large. They were both large and then I researched more and found on some British site claiming the size is "chest" size (eg. 34", 32", etc). So of course the 36" won't fit. I returned both and excharged for 32", which is my chest size. It fits like charm and I don't look boxy in it. I can even wear sweater and many layers in it. But if you live in snow blizzarding states, you can order one chest size up so you can fit more under the coat.I ended up returning my coat because the removeable throat tab was missing ( I noticed mine was a return since there were dog hairs all over the coat)[...]I would recommnd this coat to others because this coat is truely becautiful. But please bear in mind the size is referred to chest size, not euro size.

Great coat!

I was concerned because I normally wear a petite size. The sleeves were perfect for me (I'm 5'3") but would probably be short for taller women.
The length is perfect but I did go up a size after reading reviews and that worked out perfectly.
The quality of the wool is very good.
I've been looking for a good duffle coat for a couple years so I was thrilled to find one of such good quality. I think she might want to change the leather on the toggles to be a bit softer though.
Another good feature is the zip front in addition to the toggle buttons. I would also like to see knit cuffs on the under side of the sleeves for added warmth. Overall, the coat is great!
I would definitely recommend it. I wear it nearly every day.

A Great Coat

I mostly wear this coat to work. The length is great going almost to my knees, helps keep my legs warm. The sleeves are a nice length. Very nice fabric - thick and warm. I received it just in time for a very cold spell and it keeps me very warm and block the wind wonderfully. I am enjoying the coat and expect to get years of use from it. I originally ordered one size down as it says it fits loose. [...]

High Quality Coat

This coat is really nice. I have a similarly priced, older Gloverall, and I think this one is a little nicer. It appears to have real horn buttons, and it also has a zipper, which is a big bonus. I tend to be a small size US 6, and went with this as a UK 10. It fits okay, but I could not by any means wear a bulky sweater with it, like I could some other UK 10 coats that I have.

I love it!

I wanted a good quality, classic coat to wear to work. Most of the coats I tried on in department stores were very shoddy quality, with plastic buttons, artificial petroleum based fabrics. This coat is beautifully made of high quality wool. It makes me feel warm and snug and reminds me of my childhood red duffel coat (although this time I bought a more mature camel color coat). It makes me happy to wear it. A true classic.

This coat is exactly what I wanted!

Just got my navy blue duffle coat, and it is gorgeous! The quality is exceptional, horn buttons, leather toggles, and the wool is a deep navy and so soft. Plus, I stood outside in a harsh wind, and the coat blocked it completely. I have wanted a classic duffle coat for a long time, and this one is exactly what I have been looking for. I expect it to last for many years.

Excellent coat

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my wife, who occasionally borrowed my Partridge duffle to walk the dog on cold nights. The women's version is not as boxy as mine, has some nice finishing around the seams, and flap pockets. It's warm, the fabric has a nice hand, and the camel color is a rich, light brown (to my eye). She loves it, which, to me, makes it perfect.

Exceptional coat!

[...] it was too snug around my hips. This coat is exceptionally well tailored. My gentleman friend was so impressed with it that he ordered the men's version for himself, and it fit him like a glove. He is so happy, and I am so sad that there wasn't a size 16 available for me. Please tell the company to make some bigger sizes for women!

Not what was expected!!!

I had ordered the Gloverall Duffle coat, but returned it because it was tight. (Otherwise it was just what I wanted). Because it was not available in the next size, I ordered the John Partridge Classic Duffle. The descriptions were almost identical, so I was unhappily surprised to find a light weight "jacket" missing all the detail that I had come to expect in English duffle coats. It did not have a plaid self lining, the material feels like felt, the sleeves are plain, no buttoned tabs, flimsy hood [...]I cannot recommend this coat. It was not worth the "bargain price"!
