Mixing normal sandals and boats tends to result in broken, bleeding toes and furious boat owners. The Keen Newport Sandals were developed in the sailing mecca of Rhode Island to solve these problems while retaining the comfort of sandals. A toe guard protects your nubs from deck rigging or rocks on shore. The Newport's soles are made from a grippy, non-marking rubber that prevents you from slipping and falling overboard, or being thrown by black-mark-addled boat owners. The Newport's waterproof leather upper and anatomical last make it comfortable enough for extended wear on long blue water voyages, or just walking around town.

Another Great Keen Design!

Rating:*****
Unlike some people I started with Keen shoes and then bought these Keen sandals. What can I say that hasn't been said? The footbed is great right out of the box, comfortable and as of yet odor free (can you say no Teva stench). The tension straps were a little long as I have a medium volume foot. Nothing a little trim of the straps didn't cure. The fit is exceptional, but I upsized a half to full size compared to other manufacturers. The color I got Khaki/Forest Night has a slight morphing ability. Though beige with a slight green hue when worn with khaki, brown, or blue, they definitely take on a more green hue when worn with green. I think this is pretty cool, just wanted to inform potential buyers. As for the "Waterproof" claim of these shoes, I put my trust in Keen as I have yet to test them. My wife's have held up well through a summer of concrete, blacktop, forest duff, lakes, and streams. If you are really looking for a dedicated water shoe, go for the H2's my daughter's have held up wonderfully and dry fairly quickly.

This was my 3rd pair of Keen sandals so I could be construed as a fan, my second pair of the Newports and a pair of H2s. I prefer the leather Newports as they seem to give your feet a little more protection and fit more comfortably than my H2 models. I've used them for just about everything you can imagine. Other than athletic activities these have pretty much replaced my running shoes as daily spring, summer, and early fall footwear. Keen is just the best. I've recently bought a pair of their Summit County boots for winter and a pair of their Oregon hiking boots for a hike I have coming up in late fall. Great quality, great comfort, I do tend to order them a size larger as that's what works for me. If you're on the fence, pay the extra and get the best. You certainly won't regret it for a minute with any Keen product.

Keen Newports after 1 month

Rating:*****

The important stuff...fits true to size, high quality workmanship, good traction in the wet stuff, holds up well to salt and freshwater use, comfortable for light hiking and appears to wear well after 80 hours of use. Sometimes there is a little black residue on the toes, but that's because I can unabashedly kick balls, rocks, stop car doors in the wind, etc. with that great toe protection. My only question mark is the durability of the soft anatomic footbed, I am getting some wear and tear as my feet grind some of the inevitable sand and debris that gets trapped between the ball of my foot and the footbed. For more docile activities around the house I wear good ol' flip-flops but I love the fact that in the great outdoors smashed toes are now a thing of the past. At this point, I give it a hearty two thumbs up!

My husband and I both own these all-terrain sandals. Not only do they dry quickly when wet, but they don't give you blisters when drying. I bought these for my dad, since he owns a boat and goes to the lake every weekend possible. Not only can he swim to the shore in them, but he can hike once on the mountains and he doesn't have to worry about blisters or stubbing his big toe. These are a tremendous pair of sandals, I've even kept the first pair I bought five years ago and they are still going strong! Keen products are also a little wider in the toe box area which is nice while you're hiking, swimming, or just plain have wide feet. These get the Milne vote in RI, and the Weir vote in AZ. Thanks, Keen for such a wonderful product!

Keen Newport - Worth the money

Rating:*****

I purchased the Keen Newports based on a friend's rave reviews of his. I can't recall if his are Newport leather or Newport H2, but I'm guessing that their fit and construction are nearly identical. What's immediately apparent are that these are extremely comfortable, and well made. They have excellent all-around support, but are very easy to put on and take off. My feet tend to sweat very easily and these breathe like standard sandals, but with considerably more all-around support like that of a canvass day hiker. Also, you can actually wear off-white socks with these in non-recreational situations and not look like a dork! They look like hikers instead of sandals with socks showing through. I'm guessing that these will hold up under all conditions for a long, long time, and I'll want to wear them all the time in the summer.

Rating:*****

They are Great! These sandals are as comfortable as tennis shoes and have a closed in toe box to keep you from getting stubbed toes while out and about. They are very durable. I currently have three pair. I have had my original pair for a little over four years now and they are still in great shape. I bought the other two just to add some color variety to my footwear. They are great for going from dry to wet and back to dry terrain or if you just want a good pair of sandals to wear in Spring, Summer, or Fall.
The sizing the Newport seems to run smaller than they do on the Newport H2. ON the Newport I had to get a 1/2 size larger than I did on the Newport H2.
Enjoy....

"Great sandals"

Rating:*****
I am a great fan of Keen and have about five or six pairs (so do my wife and son). I just got them this spring as an upgrade from Keen Tijuana I had for the last two years. I was concerned with the size b/c Keens' seem to size down. I normally wear 9.5 and this was the only size in stock. I got it, and O Miracle, it fit just fine, while my other Keen's are a nice feet in size 10. What I like is that Aegis coating which repels smell (it was a disaster with Tijuana) and just overall look. They are very comfy and should last for two-three seasons no problem. My only question is why New Charcoal would actually turn to be Green?

Can there possibly be a better sandal?

Rating:*****
Keen Newports are my new top favorite shoe. And living in Phoenix, wearing socks and shoes is a pain in the summer. These let your feet breathe really well, especially protect your toes from rocks, and even look good enough to pass as casual dress shoe. You can take them through water, over rocks, and through the woods if you want. Whether you're out for a walk or just lounging around the house. On my latest multi-day fasthiking trip, it was nice to take off my hiking socks and boots at the end of a hard day, slip these on, and get things done around camp without having too worry to much about. What a great shoe, can't say enough good things about them.

These sandals took a few days to break in for me. There was some pressure against the upper front of my feet that had me worried at first, but the shoes stretched out a bit and ever since then, pure bliss. I highly recommend these shoes. I have worn a lot of shoes and sandals known for their comfort and quality in the past -- Ecco, Mephisto, etc. -- and these sandals, for their purpose, are on a par with those. The only minor complaints I have is that they do seem a bit heavy, and they are slow to dry when they get wet. But I am happy with them and will buy them again.

These are my 4th pair of keens, I've had over the past several years. And, are clearly the ones I like the best. Previously had Newport H2O's, and while they fit ok, these have a much more comfortable fit for me. One of the things I like is that the "tightening lace" on the shoe, is not too long as in previous Keens I've owned. On previous pairs I had to tuck it in as it was flopping all over. Not so with this shoe. I was hesitant at first to buy leather Keens, because of the feel. But, this are a truly excellent shoe with a great fit for me.

Negative Reviews:

Rating:*
This is the worst shoe I have ever purchased. Yes, I purchased the correct size. They fit, but seemed a little bit harsh out of the box. "Oh well," thought I, "I'm certain they're wonderful after a slight break in period." I bravely donned my new shoes and walked a couple of miles; 4 blisters on one foot, 3 on the other. These shoes felt like wires cutting flesh after long enough. If I loosened them ridiculously to alleviate the "cutting" sensation, they slipped around and gave me burning hot spots. I eventually made the choice to remove the shoes and gingerly pick my path back along broken sidewalks and littered streets barefoot. Keen also says these are for water. I shudder to imagine the damage done had I actually walked through water and then let these shoes tear into me. That may have actually landed me at a clinic. Why do so many people rave about this shoe? These ruined two days of a vacation; the day I wore them and a day to heal from wearing them. 5 stars for style though; at least they look good. Form before function in this case, I suppose. I'll be returning these. Breaking in new combat boots is infinitely preferable to walking in these shoes.

"Bad experiance..."

Rating:**
I wore these all around zions and in the narrows last summer. In the river they did great except they trap rocks in the toe and its a real pain pickin em out EVERY second. Not good in sand at all, sock or no sock. Unfortunately i got the grey brown colr and it all faded out after using them in the river. One more thing, the odor is hard to keep away, retains foot stench very well, and my feet dont usually stink!

"Get the Bison color..."

Rating:**
I returned these thank you Moosejaw free return label -- awesome customer service for a couple of reasons... First the color Charcoal did not look as good in hand as it did online - kind of greenish... Secondly, the reviews of other Moosejaw customers suggested these tend to end up not being as comfortable in areas where small rocks may get into the shoe and become trapped in the toe cap.

"We will see about future catastropic failures"

Rating:**
Trauma ensued upon my first putting the sandal on. The fastening lines broke with the first pull. This tragic, if not counseling provoking incident brought about the silver lining to this cloud. By far the greatest part of this epic tale is that the store gurus fixed it right away when I returned and promised replacement parts and road side assistance if needed. Couch time avoided- Ourah!

Not the best river sandal

Rating:***

I just spent 3 weeks on the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. These were my primary shoes. Not a wise choice. They are nice for water as far as sandals go and protect the toes well. However, the traction when wet on rocks or other slippery surfaces was not very good. In fact, 2 of the other folks had Keen sandals as well—one of them being the Keen Hood River model for boating. They both had the same traction issue. Also, when used for dry and or wet hikes, I was constantly getting rocks or dirt in between the slots on the sides and thus making me have to take off the sandals to empty them. These sandals also stretched a lot when wet. I normally wear a 9 to 9.5 size. I got a 9, but should have bought an 8.5. I think this shoe will be nice for walking around town but not as a river sandal. One of the folks had a water shoe that did not have the side holes to allow water out easily or allow debris in to the shoe. This worked the best from what I could tell. It was easy to wear, dried just as fast as the Keen sandals, did not let the debris in the shoe, and was great on hikes. The Salomon Tech Amphibian sandal is an example of this design. That’s what I want to try next.

"They're comfy, but not for sensitive feet."

Rating:***
These sandals are overall super comfortable! I got them because I have hot feet. After wearing them though, my feet were still hot. There is so much neoprene-like material pushed against my skin all the time. The other thing is the left one is a little deformed at the toes. I have to see if I can get them replaced, but who has the time. I'm pretty sure this is why it pushes down on my foot a lot, and caused a very serious problem with my foot. I couldn't walk for a week! The souls are incredibly comfortable though. I'm sure anybody getting a pair of these that are not deformed, and has normal foot temperatures would just love them! One more thing. They say they're odor free, but that's total

Decent

Rating:***

I got a pair of these to wear wet wading and fishing from a drift boat in the summer and spring. These are very comfortable sandals that provide a lot of protection. I've found these to be a bit slippery on river beds. If you plan on being mostly dry while wearing these then they would be great. If you think you'll spend a lot of time walking in rivers wearing these look elsewhere. I would like to see Keen get some Vibram soles on these.

I had high hopes for these Keen Newport and Newport II sandals. For the price, they are not the greatest value. Sure, they are generally comfortable, but after a couple of hours on my feet they develop "hot spots." You can probably do just as well with a less expensive brand. Great service from Zappos, though.

Sizing is way off - Buy smaller

Rating:***

These sandals are sized way off. They only run in whole sizes and the size 12 I bought was really a size 13, Buy a size smaller. This is difficult for those who wear ".5" sizes as you can't get a full size smaller.
