Keen Presidio

Women's Footwear > Casual ShoesRated: ***** by 152 reviews.

Altrec

Made with classic Oxford lace styling, Keen's Presidio shoe gives you refined casual comfort in a look that doesn't have any of the floral print found on their summer-oriented Zoe Oxford lace shoe. Along the interior collar you'll find a synthetic leather lining and moisture-wicking fabric further inside for all-day comfort. The metatomical footbed easily conforms to most feet, but you can remove the footbeds and use your own custom orthotics. This is a great casual shoe for times around the house and those easy-going brainstorming sessions at work.

Features:

  • Classic Oxford lace upper with metal eyelets and wide laces
  • Comfortable metatomical footbed can be removed and replaced with custom orthotic support
  • High traction rubber sole with moderate profile tread for grip on varied terrain
  • Moisture-wicking lining consists of smooth leather and synthetic materials

The Only Shoes I Wear

Rating:*****
I am amazed at how quickly I have fallen in love with these shoes. I have had them for seven months but could not have parted with them after one week.

I was looking for a shoe that I could wear all day, which I begin on my feet managing a coffee shop, and end on my feet working with horses. These shoes last me from 6:00am to at least 8:00pm with absolutely no problem, and I often have to remind myself to take my shoes off when I get home; I NEVER feel anxious to pull them off and rest my feet.

Outside of the pure comfort from day one, the shoes also look great at work whether I'm wearing jeans, kackis, or nicer slacks, and they transition well to going on short hikes or hanging out on the weekend.

I have found them great for working with horses: they are comfortable enough that I can run for short distances on uneven or loose terrain when I am exercising a horse from the ground, and the classic Keen toe keeps me safe from the occasional horse mis-step. When my shoes get too dusty from the barn, I simply wipe them clean with a damp towel and they look good as new. Because I do this often, the leather is probably more likely to dry out, but with occasional light conditioning I've had no problems.

I wrote that they do not feel true to width because I have wide feet and these shoes fit me perfectly. So I'm happy with them! But I wonder if someone with a more average or narrow foot may find that they are too roomy in the toe.

Another slight inaccuracy is that the "black" does not really look black; rather, it looks more like a dark chocolate compared to the more brown version that is offered. It doesn't matter to me because I think they look great, but an online buyer may be surprised. They actually provide a good alternative to the more standard brown that you find in boots and trail shoes (like the brown that is offered.) If you are still a brown-shoe type of person like I am, these still work in essence.

My only other warning for a potential buyer is that they lack a heavy tread, which you can see from the picture. This is a trend with Keen; you either get a heavy sole or a nearly-smooth one. So far they have worked well for me. My biggest concern was slipping at work when I walk quickly through areas with spilled water, but I haven't had an incident yet. But if you're looking for something with a more rugged sole, these may not the shoes for you. However, these soles can also be a plus because they do not hold and track in dirt as much as a pair of boots.

The bottom line is that these are a very versatile and comfortable pair of shoes. I often have to force myself to wear the other shoes in my closet, just so that I don't feel bad about having spent the money on them.

don't want to wear anything else anymore

Rating:****
I'm really picky about my shoes, and need to have at least one very comfortable pair for lots of walking and time spent on my feet. This means they need to have adequate contouring and a moderate amount of rigidity. While the look had to grow on me, these shoes fit the bill. I love them so much I wear these shoes pretty much 7 days a week which wasn't my intention when I bought them.

I'm also impressed by how well they manage my foot sweat. I have excessively sweaty feet (hyperhydrosis) and while the sides of the shoe are waterproof leather, the combination of the top part of the shoe being breathable leather and the linings material being chosen for good wicking keeps my feet surprisingly dry and odour free.

Although I said they were true to size and width, I bought them in person, so I knew how they were going to fit. That said, they were the size I usually buy for casual footwear. I like plenty of room to wiggle my toes, and they have plenty of toe room. I did find the rear of the shoe was rather deep after my first day of wearing so that it rubbed the back of my ankle a bit, so I added my custom molded 3/4 insole which served the dual purpose of raising my heel just enough, and making the shoe even more comfy. This is to say they were comfy before, but my use of insoles make them so comfortable, I hate wearing any other shoes now. My other shoes are not as wide and don't accommodate the insoles as well. I'll just have to buy more Keens!

Anyway, bottom line is that these shoes handle walking all afternoon, or 9 hour days on my feet in a workshop with comfy dry feet.

Best shoes *ever*. I'm serious.

Rating:*****
I love these shoes so much I literally have three pairs of them in different colors. I have high insteps but no other foot issues. I've also got, um, six or seven other models of Keens with which to compare the Presidio, and they're my favorite, with the Targhee coming in second.

The only shoe I have that might compare is a pair of Vasque hiking boots in which I've walked nine or ten miles at a clip. If I had to be on my feet, I'd grab the Vasques or one of my pairs of Presidios.

I've just about beat my first pair to death. I've had them for three years and they've been to London, Peru and Egypt. Also many places in Nashville, Tennessee. You'd never know it - they don't quite look new, but they certainly don't look as well-used as they are.

The Presidio has a vaguely orthopedic look, which makes them maybe not the best choice for folks who are super-fashion conscious, but they're not ugly - I have a pair in black I wear for work occasions or anytime I have to do a lot of walking and to look presentable.

Every now and then REI will put different colors of these on sale. My favorites are a shade called 'Pool' that REI doesn't make any more, but I can certainly tell you you can simply not go wrong with these shoes. Oh, and I've gotten mine soaking wet before as well...they simply don't show water or stains.

I have to go up half a size in this model, and the inconsistency among models is my one complaint with Keen...but overall I'm thrilled with their products, especially when they're on sale :)

Cute, Comfy & Light

Rating:*****
These shoes are incredibly comfortable, supportive & so cute! You feel like you are walking on air because the sole is so well cushioned, and the shoes are surprisingly light which is great for travel. I bought these shoes for travelling around the world in. They are great as they can be worn with jeans without looking too casual & 'clunky' like hiking shoes. The shoe has a nice wide toe, which allows for thick socks. I'd imagine that the toe would easily allow for wide feet too. I generally wear a US6 and found that they were a little shorter than most shoes due to their toe shape, but as they were nice and wide in the toes this wasn't a problem for me as I have normal width feet. However, people with normal-wide feet may need to move up half a size. A special note should be made about Altrec's international shipping, as it was excellent. Well priced, well packed & quickly delivered. Many Thanks.

Will be a great shoe

Rating:*****
I own three of these. Was great out of the box for a day and a half and then the back of my lft ankle got rubbed raw after long walk. Not wanting to give up on them since I need a good walking shoe and they were great in so many ways others have listed(and they accept athletic inserts), I decided to work these in. What I did was to mink oil them every other day while breaking them in but not long haul walking(3+miles) as I originally bought these for. With the warmth of body heat, gradual break-in and the softening of the leather by the mink oil, I now have a comfy pair of shoes in which to walk distances. So if you find one of your shoes giving the back of your ankle trouble, try mink oiling them regularly and breaking them in gradually at first. These really are great shoes imo. They got 5*'s for being great in the end.

almost perfect

Rating:****

I was very excited to find a pair of casual, yet supportive, shoes with contrasting stitching and soles (bought black). I hate all-black shoes so these were perfect. I first got size 7 (wear 7's in other shoes), but they were a tad small. Got 7 1/2, and they're a tad too big. Too bad they don't come in 7 1/4!

The look is casual but dressy - can easily shift from jeans at a cafe to a mild hike in the trails. And being weather resistant is great, as I commute to work by bike.

The reasons why I didn't give 5 stars are: 1) there was a break-in time, the leather at the back of the heel is rather stiff and rubbed my skin for some time, 2) smudges of glue are all around the toe which makes them look poor quality.

Keens rock!

Rating:*****

I bought two pairs of Keens. Briggs (black) and Presidio (Tomato)(I bought a pair of Keen sandal 2 years ago too, that's how I fell in love with Keens). They are awesome. I love them. They are very comfortable, light and have a very good arch support. I have naturally wide feet, so not many shoes are comfortable for me. But these ones are wonderful!
The colour of the red (Tomato) presidio is gorgeous. Wear them, you get lots of compliments. I usually wear size 5.5, but I ordered these ones size 6, because other reviews said that they are one size smaller than standard sizes. They fit perfectly with thick socks, but a little bit loose with thin socks. Anyway, if you're looking for comfortable casual shoes, I highly recommend these Keens.

The shoe is, like most Keen shoes, good for those of us with wide, flat feet. I don't think the sole and mid-sole are as strong or as supportive as my first pair of Keens, the Newport. However, aside from a little blistering at the heel from my first few times wearing them, they are comfortable. And I walked a lot in their first week in my life--all over Berlin, Germany, on vacation. I like the lace-up style. It allows for a customizable fit. One big complaint: the stitching is already coming out along the lace area. I may have to send them back and request a new pair. I wish Keen would be more careful in their manufacturing process.

Keen Presidio (women's)

Rating:*****

After spending most of last summer in Keen sandals, I knew that for an upcoming, walking-heavy vacation I wanted Keen. The Presidio is a very comfortable shoe! I will say, though, that they took a few days of breaking in to truly fit like a glove. Initially, my left shoe rubbed my ankle and the right one bent into the top of my foot. Within a few days, this started to dissipate, and now they are supremely comfortable. As is typical with Keen, I am wearing a half-size larger than my normal size. I have a hard time finding comfortable shoes, so endorsements like this don't come often. The only other shoes I wear on a regular basis are Danskos.

The Only Pair of Shoes I Had

Rating:*****
For a 3 month backpacking tour through Europe, these are the only shoes I took along. I bought them only a couple of days before leaving, and there was almost no break-in period for the shoes to be as comfortable as they ultimately got. They held up for the entire 3 months, from 12 mile hikes along coastal cliffs in Scotland to day-long adventures randomly wandering city streets. On average I was walking 5-6 miles a day, and I never dealt with blisters. The only thing I can think that needs improvement is the sole. Something more similar to a hiking boot would have been useful for some of the terrain I put these shoes through.

Negative Reviews:

weird color name

Rating:**
I ordered a pair online in the "Black Olive" color but when I opened the box, they were brown, not the black shoes I had in mind. So disappointing and a bit of an inconvenience. Keen probably shouldn't use the word 'black' to describe brown shoes. Back to the store they go.

Weird Fit

Rating:**

I think the Keens are so cute, but they fit really weird. I would try them on before you buy them. Most shoes fit great, but these just don't fit well at all.

Good looking shoe, not right for me

Rating:***
I wanted a an all-around shoe that wasn't so girly or ugly as everything else out there right now, and fell in love with how these shoes looked. I went to REI, and tried on a pair. I wasn't sure how there were really going to feel after the 10 minutes in the store, so bought them and took them home. Once I wore them around the house for a little while, I noticed one of the the tongues was rubbing a sore spot on the front of my ankle. Also, I have a rather low arch, and was feeling more support than I am used to. Although I desperately wanted these to work, I was worried they wouldn't really be comfortable for me, so had to return them...

These are most definitely not as comfortable as my Keen H2 Newport sandals. In fact they are incredibly uncomfortable. They cut into my ankles and the leather is very stiff. I can only hope that they will break in with time. After my great experience with my Keen sandals (they are the only shoes besides my hiking boots and my running sneakers that I wear from April - November), I was really looking forward to getting my Keen Presidios. I have to say, sadly, that I am not impressed.

Comfy but wear in <1 year

Rating:***

These are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned!...however, I walk on the outside of my feet and the heals in both of my shoes are completely warn out!!! No rubber left! and Ive only been wearing them 10 months!... I wear them to work almost every day, so they get used a lot, but in my opinion they should have lasted longer. So if you walk more flat footed than me, you might be ok.

Looks good but is very stiff. I have worn Keens for years; sandals and mary janes. I finally decided to get a Keen shoe but was very disappointed when I tried on this one. It was very stiff and not at all supportive. The back rubbed on my heel and the shoe felt really hard and uncomfortable. I returned it and got a Keen hiker, much better! Thanks Zappos for great return service.

Kind of a let down

Rating:***

I loved the look of these shoes and waited quite a while before my size came in. I love the roomy toebox but I also feel like I am wearing a recycled tire. They are bare bones, no real cushioning to speak of and maybe that is the point. If it is, I missed it.
