Beach and Light Camping

| My family of five kids used this tent everyday when in northern Michigan. We would set it up and tear it down each day at the beach. The younger kids really liked it as it provided shade and good ventilation during the sunny days. Very easy to put together (5 minutes) once you do it the first time. The wide vents are a must. Don't get one without the vents if you are using it as a beach shelter. The pouches on all four corners are useful. We filled them with sand and it kept the tent in place despite some good winds. When my oldest son went on an overnight trip with his school I packed this one on my Harley because it was lightweight. The two zippers (one on each side of the "doorway") meet at the top seam, leaving a 18" gap where the overflap hangs but there is no zipper that runs across. That allows a few bugs to join in on the fun. Even at 6'4" I fit in it when lying down. (My son stayed in a cabin). It dipped down to the low 40's at night so there was condensation in the morning. But that was a small price to pay for an easy to assemble, light weight tent. I would not use it if you anticipated rain, snow or any other precipitation. | |

Kelty Cabana Large | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
We bought this for a week at the beach with our 7 month old. I was looking for a tent to provide shade from the sun and to be large enough for an adult to sit in the tent and play with our daughter. Another goal was to have tent that was easy to set up and then shake out (sand entering the tent is inevitable). I also wanted the tent to be durable. This tent performed well against our criteria. Easy to set up and shake out. A nice feature I didn't expect was the sand bags at the four corner of the tent which were easy to fill and did a good job anchoring the tent. I was pleased with the purchase.

Great for California Beaches!

| I bought this because I was going to be at the beach all day from 9am-10pm (bbq to bonfire). I wasn't sure if I was going to use it, but the dog was getting hot so I set it up. The moment it was up, he walked in and took a nap. With a breeze it works great and is very roomy and protected all our stuff. It was nice at night as a block against the wind. The ventilation was great with the light breeze. | |

Great for the Family at the beach

| Took this to the beach and had A LOT of room. Great for having some privacy with our infant or changing out of a wetsuit for the days of doing open water swims. In the intense sun, the Cabana does get a bit warm but the two windows allow for some cross ventilation. BEWARE the Medium tent does not have the windows and will get MUCH hotter, that is why I opted for this larger size. This is a great beach accessory! | |

Great sun protection at the beach

| The Cabana is a great shelter for going to the beach or using in the backyard. We used it to protect our dog and gear from the hot sun at the beach and it worked rather well. In the backyard it's great to use to protect the dog from the sun while we work in the garden. Be aware that the fabric sleeves for the poles can be torn rather easily. | |

A must have at the beach | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| A must at any beach where to much sun exposure can be a problem. Its roomy enough for two adults and 3 small children plus some food and gear. Sets up easy. Because of the low profile, you will want to buy fold up chairs that have no legs. The cabana holds up fine even in medium winds. Will make your beach experience a whole lot better. Looks really nice. | |

Too hot for the beach but very sturdy

| We used the shelter on a recent trip to the Gulf. Unless the breeze was constant the shelter was very hot even with the screen windows and front totally open. This was probably not the best purchase for a hot beach week when we mostly wanted to have shade, great ventilation, and open views of the ocean. On the pro side, the shelter sets up easy and for a day of average wind the sandbags connected to the tent work fine. We staked it down fora night thunderstorm and though the tent blew about 4 hotels down the beach, we found it intact and with minimal damage. In fact we used it for one more day until the heat did us in! If you're going to a hot beach, you're better off with an open shelter. | |

Great , some problems | |

if its windy hang on. this thing is like a kite, winds in Colorado high country are no match. Also the Brass rings that hold the fiberglass poles aren't heavy duty enough, had to replace all of the rings with some plastic ones found? haven't used it since the plastic ones installed, will have to send it back to kelty for replacement. Its great, you just need it tide down very well, wind will still pull out the stacks or large nails used, I still like it, great shade. Will buy another if I can find one like I have...

if it's super windy, forget it, if it's stale out, then too hot
| Rating: | ![]() |
It does a good job in optimal conditions. Slight breezes keep it cool and don't blow it over or bend the poles. It shades you from the sun and can even keep you warm on the beach when it's chilly and breezy. In super windy conditions, it bends and collapses. Mine is tatered now due to extreme windy conditions on the national seashore at the Cape in May. If it is warm out, with no breeze there isn't enough ventilation and it gets hot - even with the windows. I am looking for an open aired shelter as a replacement.
