Great tent

Rating:****
Bought this tent for a trip to Minnesotas BWCA. It sets up VERY easy, and is nearly idiot proof. This tent is TUFF. Storm blew in at night, VERY hi winds, infact the wind gusted strong enough to even scoot my canoe 4 feet. We were nervous but there were no problems. the tent was steady as a rock, as was the rain fly, even the vestibule that seems to be the weakest link was stable and kept our gear dry that was stored in it. We had no condensation problems in the morning. I do HIGHLY recomend the use of the footprint or a good graound tarp to protect the bottom but any light weight back packing tent will have that in common. The only complaint I had were the ground stakes. They are aluminum and bend to easy, After getting back to civilization I replaced them with sturdier steel stakes which really didn't add but a few ounces to the carry weight. The stakes alone are the reason for the 4 star rating, I would have given it 4 1/2 stars but that's not allowed. Over all this tent is a really good tent for the money.

Like a Ford truck not flashy, but works

Rating:****
I have used this product on two backpacking trips and two car camping trips. It has never let me down. One thing about Kelty products, they are designed for the casual hiker/backpacker. If you are looking for light weight, I suggest Mountain Hardware or Sierra Designs. If you are looking for an inexpensive, reliable product, the Grand Mesa is that and more. The last use was during a car camping trip with family. As we all know the weather in New England this June has been WET! It rained for three days, heavy at times, and the ground was soaked. I normally lay a sheet of plastic under the tents (too cheap for footprints) but forgot it on this trip. The tent was sitting on wet grass and mud for 3 straight days and the floor stayed dry. The fly has excellent coverage, and the vestible is great for keeping muddy shoes out of the tent, but still dry.

Good tent

Rating:****
This really is a great tent. It's easy to set up and has enough room inside for a good size air mattress. It's also great in the rain. No leaks and that was during a pretty big rain storm. Great rain fly. The only thing I would change - the inside door doesn't zip all the way up, so your left with just screen. If you have the rain fly on, that covers the door, however there's still a space between the tent and the rain fly that is just screen. In my opinion, I prefer the solid inside door to completely cover the screen. Other than that, I'd recommend this tent.

Awesome time on A.T.

Rating:*****

I purchased this tent for a four day trip on the A.T. It is very easy to put up even in the rain. I did purchase the footprint for it as well which I would suggest to anyomne hiking or camping in rocky terrain just for added wear and tear. The tent was very quick to dry out after it rained the first night. It was a little tight for four people and their gear. One of our team members is very tall and we had to lay long ways in the tent other then that it was great.

Grand Mesa qualities

Rating:*****

I used the grand mesa 4 person tent for a week in the Wind River range in Wyoming with my family, and it held up really well. I selected this tent because of the low weight/good space for backpacking. It was easy to setup, and withstood nightly thunderstorms with hail and strong gusty winds. The material is kind of thin, but that's what makes it lighter to carry. I used a plastic sheet for my ground cloth which will help extend the life of the tent. Decent tent for the money.

worked great in Hell's Canyon

Rating:*****

This tent worked great on our four day trip in Hell's Canyon. It's size to weight ratio was good, it was super easy to set up, and the rain fly was outstanding. We did wish there was more screen on the tent as we had some condensation on the inside from not enough ventilation, but that is a minor point. Overall, it rates high on price, weight, performance, and set up. Great tent!

Best Value Out There

Rating:*****
This tent is durable, reliable, comfortable and one of the easiest tents to put up and take down. All of these high end features for an incredible price. The vestibule is just big enough to store our packs, boots and a few other things we don't want inside. Everything is easy, the zippers, the clips and it is big enough to sleep comfortably. Great tent for the money.

Just what I wanted

Rating:****

I do agree with the purchase of a footprint because the bottom of the tent is a little thin. Set up is simple and straight forward. Plenty of interior room and the vestibule is perfect for keeping muddy boots out of the tent. The tent bottom being thin is the only reason why I give it 4 stars instead of 5.

Easy and Quick

Rating:*****

The way I like my tents -- easy and quick...I set-up this baby in 5 minutes flat, it was warm and cozy at night and solid when the wind blew. It kept me and 4 of my kids warm and comfortable. I highly recommend the Kelty Grand Mesa 4 Tent 4-Person 3-Season.

Nice but scary

Rating:***

This is a nice overall tent but could be a big problem in 2 scenarios:
Q. It's raining when you want to set it up or break it down. It's wide open without the (excellent rain fly).
R. The "bathtub" floor is awful thin. I can't image it lasting too many trips until it develops holes, and, if it rains hard, the floor will probably develop a lot of condensation.
If you're going to spend $ like I did, you might want to see if there is anything similar that doesn't have these potential problems.
