Not perfect but meets my needs
| Rating: | ![]() |
| This tent meets my needs and I will use it often. Recently purchased this tent after having experience with the REI Half Dome and Quarter Dome T3. The Half Dome is supposedly a 2 person tent but honestly, I'm 6'2 and my hiking partner is 6'4 and it was just to narrow. Also have checked out the Quarter Dome T3 at the store, but head to toe it is too tight. The Quarter Dome T3 will not work if you you are 6 feet or taller. All this brought me to recently purchase a Gunnison 3.1. The dimensions work perfectly for two 6'+ guys for car camping and backpacking. I did notice that REI tents are bit better constructed but this tent has already withstood three nights of camping on the Carrizo Plain and 12 hours of driving rain and 30 to 40 mph wind gusts. We were completely dry and warm inside the whole time. I definitely recommend this tent over the other REI tents. It is durable, light and a piece of cake to set up in minutes. | |

Works for me | |

| We use this tent mostly for car camping and week long supported cycling tours. It is spacious for two people (haven't tried it with three). The best part is the ease of setup with the clips and lightweight poles. Packed size is very good for a tent this size. I also have the Kelty footprint which does a nice job protecting the bottom. The construction seems durable and so far we've had no issues. Waterproofing is good. After one huge rainstorm everything inside stayed dry, while some of our tour companions in other tents spent part of the next day drying out their gear. If I were doing extended backpacking trips or self-supported bike tours I might go with a smaller or lighter tent, but for my needs this has worked out perfectly. | |

Multi-purpose Tent | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| My recent position in life (i.e. growth of my family) has limited my outdoor excursions to mostly car camping, and that is why I purchased this tent. However, I recently took this tent on a trip to Knobstone Trail in Southern Indiana. I was accompanied by two other men (one over 6'2" and the other my size at about 5' 10"). We were able to spread the weight, and the tent fit everyone very nicely. It would be difficult to carry by one person though. I love this tent it is going to be great for my purposes. | |

Excllent Tent | |

| Used the Gunnison 2.1 version for backpacking in Yellowstone in 2009 which is the same design but smaller. This tent is extremely easy and fast to set up and very stable. Kept us dry and comfy in a 12 hour rain and through another night of high winds and rain. Never a leak. We like the clear plastic 'windows' that give you a peek outside. His and hers entrances/exits and vestibules were nice, too, as we are older and need to get up in the middle of the night. Not for car camping but a great backpacking tent. | |

Two good! | |

| There are two GREAT features of this tent. One is the dual entry - lets you slip out quietly to 'answer the call' without disturbing your tentmate (& dual vestibules are nice). Second is the ventilation. I've taken this tent winter camping, camped in the pouring rain, etc - and I've always stayed comfortable & dry, no condensation! Easy to set up, too. | |

Nice tent, wrong deminsions!
| Rating: | ![]() |
| Purchased this tent because of the air flow design and mechanics of the fly. Got the tent and discovered that the deminsions listed are not what you get. The vestiblues are supposed to extend to 38 inches creating approx. 12 sq feet of vestibule. The fly only extended about 25 inches creating a very small vestibule. Called Kelty and they were not aware of the problem but they called back to acknowledge the error in construction. Kelty has no remedy for the problem at this time. | |
