Great family tent that keeps you dry.
| Rating: | ![]() |
| We were looking for a 6 person tent that could keep out the rain for the lowest price possible. This tent does do it, but it is not everything it appears to be. Contrary to the list of specs, it has only 1 door (unless they are counting the vestibule door and front door as 2 doors - a bit misleading if they are). The rain fly does not come all the way down in the back, however there is also no window in the back and the wall does keep the rain out - even when touched. Our second night out a series of thunderstorms with gusty winds and heavy rains came through for about 6 hours. The tent held up beautifully and we were dry except for a line of drips along the upper seam where the blue fabric of the floor met the cream fabric of the wall. I have since seam-sealed it and assume that it is now water tight. Other issues I had with the tent were that- while the picture shows a vestibule that pulls out neatly from the front, the reality is that their design of one tent stake at the front means that the sides sag leaving less space in the vestibule than there could be. I used pieces of extra nylon included with the tent to create 2 more loops for staking down the sides and that helped a lot. The other problem with the vestibule is that the zippered side opening means that you either end up with a damp door draped over you when coming and going, or you have to tie back the vestibule flap every time you enter or leave. Makes stealth trips to the bathroom in the middle of the night a little difficult and/or damp. The vestibule also provides the only privacy cover on the front. The front door is 50% screening with no zip over privacy flap so if you tie back the vestibule, everyone can see in your front door. Finally, the tent does have a lot of screened window space, but with the exception of the front door, it is all on the ceiling. That means that you never get a cross breeze. There are vents in the rain fly so there is some room for air to flow, but the tent is very stuffy during the day - even when it is breezy - if you have the rain fly on. Overall we thought the Kelty Lounge 6 was a great deal for the price that Altrec was selling it for when we bought it ($300 & no shipping or handling fee), but if we had paid the price that others were asking ($450), we would not have been happy with it. | |

Kelty Lounge 6 Family Tent

| We just purchased this tent from Altrec, with superior customer service, to expedite the shipment for our camping trip on the 4th of July Weekend. It arrived 2 days before our trip, which allowed some practice time for proper set-up. Once I figured out the sequence it was easy. The tip is to insert all 3 poles, on the ground, as noted. Once they are in place, lift the entire tent upwards and it will free-form properly. We camped 2 nights, at Lake Almanor, near Lassen Park and loved this spacious tent. There were 4 of us, "2 dogs" and the features included wall mesh pockets, ceiling loops and clear mesh ceiling,"great for star gazing". On the 2nd night, we put on the rain fly, which added increased warmth inside but covers the mesh celing. This tent has incredible vents and ventilation and uses quality materials throughtout, especially the floor. I have been camping for over 40 years and conducted hours of information prior to my purchase. The last tent we bought was 21 years ago, and I wanted quality, value and features. This tent appears to meet them all. Here area few other notes: Vestible is small but plenty of room for gear Mesh ceilings, overall colors, "GREAT" 6 Person -YES and more Poles- color coded, lightweight aluminum Easy to set-up, after a few practice sessions Rain-fly is well designed and securely attaches Tent is new for 2008 and meets all the hype Lightweight for the size, carrying cases 2 door zippers, use the top one, slides much easier *Note - This tent has only 1 door, not 2. I spoke to Kelty about this as they need to change their product specifications. This tent met or exceeded the main criteria that includes ventilation, fabric, rain fly, poles, ease of assemble, design and re-inforced floor, with enhaced stiching. Let's face the facts, there are hundreds of family tents available and I was prepared to pay for top quality and expect this tent to last more than 21 year, which should be easy attained with proper care. I hope to test the rainfly, during a down-pour, with great expectations. Kelty has the name and delivered the goods, just like the 1964 aluminum backpack that I bought used in 1967. I hope all of you enjoy your ourdoor adventures !!!!! | |

| This tent is the best I have used. I live in Japan and when camping out here you're never safe from the rain. The tent is very spacious and the netting allows for a nice night time view. As it would happen, it started to rain and I was able to easily put on the rain fly and we stayed dry all night. easy to set up and take down. It is a bit heavy but for 6 people you aren't hiking around with this thing on your back (at least I hope not). Great tent I recommend to anybody looking for a party in a bag. | |

| I love my new tent, it is perfect for my family of four (we have 2 people over 6 ft). It is easy to put up and the poles go together very smoothly. The fly was a little tricky at first but not after putting it together a second time. | |
