Great buy | |

| I just recently splurged (although I wouldn't call it that, very affordable) and bought this pack. I'm glad I did! My trips are usually 2-3 days, sometimes 4, and my Redwing can handle them all. At 3100 cu. ins. of space, it isnt a huge pack, but I find it perfect for day hikes or overnighters, and, at least for me anyway, 2 and 3 day trips. You shouldnt really have to skimp on any of the essentials or comforts (pillow, extra food, camera, etc) when going on longer trips as long as you pack smart. That being said, it isnt the greatest winter pack, as you usually carry a bit more of everything during the winter. It excels, however, as a three season pack. There are several front pockets which make organization of all those little items you need very easy (I especially enjoy the key clip that I can attach my spork to), and the large side pockets are PERFECT for things you need quickly on the trail, i.e. rain gear, snacks, knife, etc. Plenty of padding for your back as well. I have only a few gripes about the pack, one being the water bottle mesh pockets are a little too small, and you will probably have a hard time fitting nalgenes if the pack is fully loaded (in those cases, I switch to a camelbak). Also, there arent a ton of options as far as attaching things to the outside of the pack. All in all, a great pack for the money. I enjoy using it, and I like that the smaller size forces you to pack smart, something we should all try and do when out on the trail! | |

| I'm an avid adventurer, and definitely tough on my gear. My Kelty Arrowhead, after 4 years of hardcore use, is just now starting to show signs of wear and tear. I love Kelty for this pack. I've only had the Redwing 2650 pack for a few weeks and have to say, it's got ample pockets and seems rugged enough to keep around for a while. A few things did disappoint me about this pack. The Single LightBeam II™ aluminum stay needs padding. It's exposed metal, it's cold on the back, and it grinds on my spine when I bend over. It looks as though it isn't removable, which may cause me to return an otherwise great pack. 2 more small things... the pack could use a sturdy base... bottom is a bit saggy for my liking. Also, I enjoyed finding hidden pockets in my last Kelty pack, this bag has none. Overall, awesome pack, but the central metal stay is giving me second thoughts about my purchase. Hopefully Kelty will fix this somehow... | |

Great, Spacious Pack | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I have had this pack for about 3 years and it has been great. Great for traveling as I can take it carry-on and not need another bag; I haven't checked luggage in 2 years because of this bag, and it is comfortable enough that I can carry it through airports etc. while stuffed and heavy. It took me to Africa for 2 weeks and I had room for souvenir's on the way back. I have only used it a little for hiking, but it has been very good so far. The side compression straps are pretty good at tightening the load so it doesn't shift while hiking. It's a bit large for daytrips, but it has worked well for overnight trips or for carrying alot of stuff on a daytrip. It is quite comfortable to wear, even under heavy load. The frame and padding are very comfortable and supportive. | |

| Never thought I would ditch my 15 year old day pack, but within 1 hour of using this, am delighted that I did. I was looking for ONE pack to do everything --walking to work, skiing, riding my scooter, going to the gym, hiking. This pack is perfect! I use this for work - laptop & associated cords, books, folders; breakfast/lunch,gym clothes, tennis shoes.I use this for xcountry skiing - for the first time I can actually fit survivor essentials, such as a down jacket and stove. There are enough pockets I can snatch tiny items such as ski wax, headband, ipod pouch, wallet, etc. in a split second, that normally get lost & buried. Great supportive stay structure, has better lumbar support than average, and one of the few panel day packs with a hefty hipbelt, which I like because it takes weight off my stiff neck/shoulders when needed. | |

Great all-around bag for short trips
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I've had my Redwing for 4 + years now. I travel alot on weekends and take this bag with me everywhere from camping, to visiting home, to short road trips. I'm a big guy and have the 2650 (medium), and it works well enough. I originally bought it as a book-pack and daybag for hiking, but have used it for much much more. My only regret is that I could use the extra space in the 3100 (large) when travelling overnight. That said, I've managed to squeeze enough clothes in my bag for four-day weekends. The cloth material is extremely durable and the multiple pockets give plenty of options for stowing my gear. When I don't have enough to fill the bag I just tighten the side compression straps. Great bag. | |

pleased, but... | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I got this pack (3100) for long weekend type travelling about Peru. The size, durability, and comfort are good. Its biggest shortcoming for this is that it does not have proper zipper handles, just pull strings. This is not good for security purposes, and I had to crimp on my own cable pulls so I can lock it. I now use this as a carry-on - perfect size for this. I've loaded it down with tons of books and am very pleased that it shows no stretching or ripping at the seams of the handle or straps. I'm also disappointed that the side mesh pockets aren't taller, to better hold a water bottle. | |

Great Bag! | |

| I use this pack mostly for school, and it definitely fits all of my big textbooks! I have the 2650, and the torso length fits well, but sometimes I feel like because it is so tall, my books only take up half of the height of the bag. I am instructor in the outdoor program at my school, and I've used this bag on several long weekend trips...it fit everything I needed for a 2-3 day trips! Great for hiking, camping, and trekking across campus! | |

Great pack | |

| For 1-3 day trips, this would be all you need. This will carry heavier loads than many similar sized packs because it has a better harness system. It's built well too. I have the 08 model and have had zero problems. I retired my 15 year old EMS 2500 day pack which till this point had been the standard bearer. Consider the torch passed. | |

| The Kelty Redwing is an excellent all around backpack. If you are looking for a great pack that works, this is it. Don't be fooled by the large, big enough for the house backpacks. This pack will carry all that you need for an overnighter or an all week hike. Keep it simple, and get this pack! | |

Bad A** Bag | |

| I needed a bag that has great capacity, and comfort, especially when I am on my bike. I looked at Osprey, MHW, and this bag was by far the best. And at the price, you cant beat it. Thanks Altrec | |

| "This is a way awesome backpack. I bought this to replace the smaller womens 2500 version, which I finally just wore out. This one isnt a woman-specific pack, which means the straps are a little further out to the sides - but it isnt uncomfortable. Its really snappy looking and BIG. I could probably fit a bassett hound in here with no trouble if I so desired. There are also some good outer pockets on this pack, which is one reason I really like the Kelty." | |

| "I had an old Redwing that I got in the mid 1980s that I loved but finally wore out the zipper. Loved the front panel loading aspect and ski slots so replaced it with this newer model. Perfect size for long day trip adventures, treking or travel. Got a great price from eBags. Excellent features for such an affordable price. Would be tough to find a better value on a pack of this size. Others I looked at were all $150." | |

| "overall, a good purchase. its roomy enough for weekend trips and has plenty of pockets. i could go without the metal frame-adds a bit of bulk to it and inconvenience (i liked my old backpack that could be squeezed down, if not full, to fit under the seat on a plane). i also wish it came it black." | |

| I used this roomy & comfortable backpack only 2 times and only on 1 of the occasions it was fully loaded. After that, seam above the main compartment zipper began falling apart. And it ruined my generally good attitude to this backpack. | |

Great layout but major flaw
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I picked this backpack up for short overnight trips (1-2 nights). I pack fairly light and can fit everything I need into it. I love how many pockets there are and it is easy to keep your items organized. For only being about 40 liters, it holds an awful lot of gear. The problem is, the hip strap and shoulder straps are too close together. I am 5'10" (unsure of torso measure) and with the pack resting perfectly on my hips, I can't adjust the shoulder straps to take less of a load. Over long hauls, this gets very tiresome. This would not be a problem if you are a shorter build or if you only had very light loads. Also, the hip belt needs to be cinched down almost all the way for me with my 31" waist, leaving tons of extra strap flapping around and dangling. I guess I made the mistake of not loading down the pack enough in the store and being too drawn in by the sale to be critical enough. | |
