I have 2 pair of these. They are the only long pants that I wear. One pair the snap comes undone far too easily forcing me to wear a belt which I do not like to do. Maybe there is a way to fix them? I sent Kuhl a message. We'll see if they have an easy fix. Other than that I love them. The rise is right where I like it. Nowadays the rise on most pants is so big that the crotch is half way to my knees and I can't stand that. These fit me perfect in that regard. They have a pocket on the side of the leg that my cell phone slips into and stays put. The material is pretty soft yet tough. The "graphite" pair faded from wear and washing pretty quickly to a very light grey but they are now my work pants so that's cool. I haven't washed the brown pair enough to have them fade yet. Overall they are very nice pants. Oh yeah, in my experience with them at REI I had to try on lots of different ones to get a pair that fit in the waist and length. The size varied quite a bit on them.
I bought a pair of these over a year ago, and I wear them very frequently. The are fairly durable, though I have had the same issue as the review below me, though not as severe. About six or seven months into owning them I could see the fabric around the rivets at the rear pockets (same spot as the photo below) beginning to pull and fray. It hasn't created a hole... yet. I would like to see these resigned a bit to solve that issue, because, aside from that problem, these are easiy my favorite pants I've ever owned.
They do have a stiff, thick quality to them, and are relatively warm because of that... but they are very comfortable, and I frequently get compliments on them. The brown is a great color. It starts off a deep rich brown with a little red in it... and will fade over time into a light clay color.
All in all I love these pants, but for the price I'd expect the durability issue around the rear pockets to be solved.
My first pair of KUHL pants and I am surprised by just how much I'm liking them. The fabric and construction really are incredibly comfortable as of the first wearing, and of quality. From the reinforced pockets and hems, articulated construction, functional snap closure, inside pant description, it's clear that a lot of thought went into developing this product. I feel the sizing is accurate and highly recommend them.
I do have one small reservation/suggestion and am reluctant to bring it up because I really do like these pants, but I'm not into 'label's and would have preferred a little less branding. These are branded three times - the small front tab, back pocket embroidery and back belt loop logo. Otherwise, they are nearly perfect!
I fell in love with these pants the minute I put them on and have only grown more fond of them with time. They fit like they were custom made and the weight of the mercerized cotton makes them super comfy all year round. The high-quality stitching, the attention to detail like two layers of fabric at the cuffs and pocket hems and the brass rivets shows that the brand's priorities are in the right place. The smart phone pocket along the right thigh is another ingenious design feature that I really miss in my other pants.
I can highly recommend these if you're looking for a comfortable, durable, great looking pair of pants.
My go-to jeans now. Kuhl does a great job of design and manufacturing. Re-enforced where they need to be, gussets on the knees.
The BEST feature is the little hidden pocket on the leg. The pocket doesn't show, but it fit my iPhone perfectly. Slide your phone in there and you can get to it on the plane, sitting, standing, laying down. No need for fumbling.
Ok, maybe iPhone compatibility isn't what Kuhl is going for, but who doesn't carry a phone and have to hassle with getting it our of their pocket?
These pants look very nice as well. Can't go wrong. Get a pair.
I purchased these pants one month ago. They fit true to size and have a nice cut, but I have issues with the fabric and dye. I purchased a 30" x 30", which fits good as long as I'm careful with the dryer setting, but I would have preferred a 31" x 30" which is not available.
After wearing the pants 8 times and only 3 times in the washer, there is a gaping hole through the seat of the pants from the rivet in the left rear pocket. It is unacceptable for any pants costing $70 to fall apart so quickly, much less ones that are supposed to be designed for mountaineering. This material is not rugged or durable at all.
I also noticed that when the pants came out of the washer, they had permanent light streaks where the dye washed out in areas that the material creased during the cycle. Again, after only 3 washes I have a pair of $70 pants with a huge hole and light streaks.
I would not recommend these pants to anyone. While they are comfortable and fit great, they are not made from quality materials... and from my experience will not last. Luckily, I can return them for a refund.
