More than an approacher and not quite a climbing shoe, the Mad Rock Men’s Fanatic Approach Shoe is capable of the thigh-busting approach, the all-day mutli-pitch route, and the exhausted hike back to camp. A reinforced toe cap and sturdy platform make for secure edging and jamming, while the arch is cut away to accommodate etriers on marathon aid pitches. Locdown lacing comfortably secures your foot when the terrain gets technical, and super-sticky Mad Rubber grips granite slabs and wet trails with ease.

Not a good shoe. | |

| The Mad Rock Fanatic Approach Shoe did not fit well. The toe box on both pairs I tried on felt weird, and the shoes are extremely bulky for an approach shoe. The fit was loose and insecure. The construction looks like they should be sold at Wal-mart. | |
