5 Unicorn Startz!

Rating:*****
I helped my girlfriend (along with the REI staff) pick out this bike for her. It came with a solid component set up and an okay entry level fork. The Bike fits her really nicely, as she does not need a women specific design because she feels too hunched over on them. Although, she does complain about the seat being too hard, which it is! WTB saddles are great, but I use ones with GEL and the one that came with this bike does not have gel.. Sad butt bones. This is a good bike for someone wanting a new bike and not wanting to go over the top on expenses. The frame Marin uses on this bike is the one they offer with all their hydro HT bikes, so it's a solid frame that can be built up if one wanted to in the future. If you are getting into mountain biking and have a larger budget you might want to go for one of the novara full-suspension bikes or a marin "nail trail" (same frame as the bobcat, just better components). But, as my girlfriend is not into all-mountain or downhill like myself and buddies, this bike is more than enough for her to do small trails, single track, and around town and when she gets more skill and confidence I'll throw a better fork on it and bam, good to go.P.S. I ride this bike all the time around town, as my bikes are much heavier and I find this bike to ride great and I'm a biggie. This bike has nice shifting, nice hydraulic breaks, but the plastic pedals had to go, as did the seats! As well is all the reflective add-on's.When the tires wear out I'll throw some maxxis holy rollers, so it will ride better around town and still good on the trails![...]

A great deal

Rating:****
I've ridden this bike for over 200 miles and haven't had a single issue (except for a flat tire--not the bikes fault). I ride easy, moderate and expert trails in north Texas and this bike handles all of it like a champ. It reminds me of an old truck: Just make sure the tires are aired up and go. No hassle, no fuss. It can handle anything you throw at it. The mechanical disc breaks are one of my favorite features because you don't have all of the maintenance of hydrolic breaks and the pads don't glaze over like calliper breaks. The downside of this bike is its weight. I can really notice it on long climbs or when I'm trying to clear big obstacles. If you can't drop 1500 bucks, but you still want a quaility durable bike that can handle most terrain, then I highly recommend this bike.

Good bike for the price

Rating:*****
Good bike for the price you pay. Surprisingly smoother ride then expected and doesn't looks too bad. Fairly light as well. Only cons are the handlebar configuration seems slightly awkward and my brake handle busted on the my first major impact. But the brake was fixed for free, so I can't complain.
