Men's Precip Full Zip Pant Regular Inseam: 32"
PreCip® is our “next step” technology that enables us to construct the lightest, most compressible, technical, waterproof and breathable rainwear in the world. Ventilated and breathable to keep you dry from the inside, PreCip® rainwear has plenty of pockets and custom fit features to keep you warm, dry and comfortable.
The new PreCip® coating is now more waterproof, more breathable and more comfortable to wear. We've added ceramic particles in the coating for added durability, waterproof reliability and Dry Touch comfort.
The key to PreCip® is its barrier technology: a microporous polyurethane that is impregnated with silicon dioxide particles. These particles create small, numerous, very consistent holes that allow the barrier to pass small water vapor molecules but not the bigger liquid ones. This keeps the rain out while letting your sweat vapor work its way outside, away from your body, to keep you dry from the inside as well as from the outside. PreCip® rainwear is compressible enough to stuff into a water bottle and comes in enough colors and styles to travel with you anywhere– to the mountains, the city or overseas.

Gearx

Keep your legs, pants, socks, and pocket contents just as dry and comfortable as your upper body with these full-zip Marmot PreCip pants. Lightweight, waterproof 2.5-layer construction is durable enough for bushwhacking, and full side zippers allow for easy on and off as the weather changes.

ABOUT MARMOT

In April 1971, University of California Santa Cruz students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley were in Alaska on the Juneau Icefields on a school project in Glaciology. It was here on the glacier, amongst these students, that the idea of a Marmot club began. To become a Marmot, you had to climb a glaciated peak with another Marmot. One of the rules of the club was that everyone was president. Most of the other rules dealt with the collegiate fascination with bodily functions.

Eric and Dave went on to found Marmot Mountain Works in 1974, and through the years the company made lots of innovations in down jackets, sleeping bags, Gore-Tex apparel, and beyond. Their modest enterprise is now one of the largest and most respected outdoor gear companies in the world, distributed in over 60 countries, and it is still all about the highest-quality, innovative performance products.

Marmot PreCip Full Zip Pant Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

At 10oz you have no excuse to not carry these, drop the full zip version and they get even lighter. I choose these since they are easier to get on/off with mountaineering boots and crampons, or snowshoes without shredding the pants.
They don't seem to breath very well so I only wear when its raining pretty good or im trudging thru deep wet snow. Also being this lightweigh means they aren't very durable, the seat will only last a few glissades before wearing thru, if they don't tear 1st, a price you pay for lightweight.
I also had to size up one size to layer these over my regular pants.

Dave at Backcountry.com on 09/15/2011

I wear a size 32-33 waist, 32 inseam and ordered the Medium. I need the Large on this one. I just got the Medium and it's tight on the hips and a tiny bit short in the length. Would be fine if they were dress pants. I'm 6'1'' 175lbs. Haven't used the pants so I can't testify on the quality yet. They seem nice though.
I'm wearing the Medium size coat and as a regular raincoat I wouldn't want it any bigger. I guess thats common with Marmot sizing as I have the Medium Mainline jacket and the Large Randonnee Ski Pants for skiing/cold weather.

bvllets at Backcountry.com on 04/01/2011

So why not try a "non tall" size?

I am 6'3", 215 with about 35" inseam and my XL is perfect. These are great lightweight rain pants. I use them for spring skiing here in New England and they have really stood up.

I don't understand why the reviewer above gave them two stars because the size chart lead him in the wrong direction. The chart is a suggestion and each size typically has a range. Bottom line: if they don't fit try another size. I guarantee there is one that'll fit. Why bury the product with 2 stars when you didn't even test their quality.
Dave D at SunnySports on 02/02/2012

I agree with the previous reviewer. I wear medium in most things, but this thing is very snug at the hips, and I'm pretty much maxed out at the velcro straps. I highly recommend sizing up based on waist size.
I have a short (29 inch) inseam, and I would prefer to own a full-zip eVent fabric pant for mountaineering. There are limited short-inseam options for breathable waterproof full-zip pants. It's the Precip for me. Doesn't breathe as well as the new offerings, but it's light, affordable, and gets the job done.

Lovewool at Backcountry.com on 05/16/2011

Great Pants!

This is my first product from Marmot, and it is quality. The breath-ability and water resistance are amazing, and it is extremely light weight. The full length zips are great for removing them when wearing snowshoes or crampons. They look very clean and stylish, but not to trendy, which is good so you don't stand out too much when climbing a mountain because the other guys will make fun of you for trying to look fashionable in the middle of nowhere even though they're really just jealous.
Seth at Moosejaw on 03/08/2011

Had them on first thing in the morning on a recent hike because it was raining when we woke up. Having the full zip allowed me to put them on inside a 2 person tent sitting down without to much trouble. I am 160# 5'8" and bought the M short. Fit fine over hiking shorts and the length is perfect with gators on. I would certainly recommend these for anyone. Great price and one of the few pants with many sizing options.

Jon P at Backcountry.com on 06/05/2012

Great Rain Pant

The full zip is excellent for getting in and out of them quickly - well worth the extra cost. They are very light and fit over jeans easily. I got them mostly for tailgating and football games since we've had some wet ones, and they've kept me dry every time. I haven't had a reason to use them on any hikes, but they pack away nicely in a day pack, without taking up any space at all.
Andrew at Moosejaw on 01/20/2012

I used these once in a heavy rain. They seemed to keep me dry but I noticed the knees of my pants and the front of them from the knees to the hem were wet so I want to try again to see how they do. As others have said, these run small. I bought an XL because of the reviews and they fit quite well. I wear a 34 waist.

winp230227 at Backcountry.com on 02/13/2013

I got these for a Uinta backpacking trip that is coming up and all the reviews said to size up because they run a little small. This was good to do anyway since I'm planning on wearing shorts or pants underneath when it's raining. The full zip makes it easy to to put on or take off with my muddy backpacking boots still on. Bring it on rain! I'm ready!

Jeff Guest at Backcountry.com on 04/25/2012

These pants are just right to throw in your pack when you're expecting showers. I have the older model, and with some wash in dwr, they still repel water well. They don't weigh much, fold up small, and the full zips make it nice to throw them on without taking your boots off.

Negative Reviews:

Not Full-Protection Rain Pants

I purchased these pants last summer from a local outdoor retailer. I have rarely used these pants; in fact they are so new I still have yet to wash them. Recently I went on a 2 hour hike and in Oregon fashion it was raining the entire time. Back at the car I peeled off my Arc'teryx jacket to find typical dampness from trapped condensation, no big deal. On the other hand my nylon pants under my PreCip rain pants where completely soaked. It seems to me that using the descriptors "PreCip® Dry Touch Technology, Waterproof/Breathable" and "100% Seam Taped - For Full Waterproofness" are incredibly misleading and could lead to tragic situations if someone was relying on these claims to keep them dry (thus warm) for longer then a day hike.

I contacted the company directly to and received nothing but cold cocky altitudes and pre-scripted responses. Despite claiming that these pants are "full-protection rain pants" Marmot responded stating that the "Zippers are not waterproof, so water can penetrate them." The zippers are located on the outside of each leg and if one is walking even a small amount of water is likely to find its way to the zipper resulting in less then full-protection from the rain. It seems to me that claims about this product have been stretched in order to increase sales not caring about the end consumer.

Tall size was too long

After a long search for a tall size pant with full side zippers, I was happy to find these. The waist and hips fit well. Marmot's size chart shows that an extra large tall would have a 35" inseam, but on a guy with a 36" inseam, these were about two inches too long. These have a diamond-shaped piece in the crotch that adds about 2 more inches to the inseam.

Neutral Reviews:

I just received these pants, so my initial impression is based upon two criteria:
(1) Weight. I bought the pants in a size large, so I realize they should weigh a touch more than the medium, but on my scale they came out to 13.5 ounces, a fair bit more than the 10 ounces listed.
(2) Size. Where others have suggested they run a bit snug, the pants fit me just fine. I usually wear a large pant and would not size up on these.

damcbrid100066337 at Backcountry.com on 11/18/2011

Thesse are well made , waterproof pants. The sizing on them seems accurate. I am 5'10.5" and 175lbs and the large regulars fit me well. My complaint was that they need a draw string or a velcro strap at the waist. The elastic band, the only method of support at the waist, is not strong enough. The pants kept sliding down when I leaned forward. I wound up having to put suspenders on them.
