Marmot Nano Jacket Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

I’ll preface this review with my cut and paste statement that I work as a backcountry backpacking guide in Yosemite National Park. Nearly all of the products I take the time to review have seen at least a half a season, if not more, of use... and I’m committed to not bothering to write a review until I feel like I’ve really gotten to know a product. I never thought I’d bother to write reviews, but I’ve recently decided that since I’ve spent so much time over these last many years reading reviews, and finding a tremendous amount of value in articulate and well-informed opinions, that I wanted to give back to the community. So, with that being said, here we go...
I've put quite a few miles on my Nano, spent several days backpacking all day in the rain while wearing it. Its very durable, and despite seeing many days of use with a pack on over it, and aside from spending loads of time getting to know granite far too intimately... it still looks brand new.
Since its Paclite (meaning it has no inner liner adhered to the carbon backing) it can get a little clammy after several hours of exertion while wearing it. Venting through the pockets is effective, and does help a bit, but the biggest downside with the older version were the elastic wristbands. Apparently Marmot caught on and swapped to a velcro fastened band, which should make a big difference. The elastic wristbands lead to a lot of leakage and wet arms, and therefore more moisture inside the body of the jacket.
Its also quite windproof, though not entirely, and makes a great shell for a bit of warmth and a respite from the wind, particularly in the morning when you finally warm up in the sun and can wad it up and throw it in your pack. It packs down very small, and is very, very light... but don't let that fool you. Its a tough shell. Now if I can just get Marmot to swamp out this old one for one with the new velcro wristbands. Seeing that they've addressed that issue... its likely worth a five star rating.

It is THAT good.

If you want a light-wt but high performance shell that is packable, breathable, and waterproof, this is the one. It has no insulation but as an outer layer with a fleece or light-wt down underneath it is perfect to break the wind, snow & rain. Been using it this winter in 20-30's temps with wind. The moldable brim with adjustable hood is a nice touch. After about 1 month of use, the only down side so far is the zipper - the zipper tug is small so you can't use it with gloves and the zipper doesn't go up and down using one hand - you need both. BTW Rock Creek had a fabulous deal!!

Great Jacket

I just bought this jacket and already have fallen in love with it. I like it so much because of the very light weight and it's ability to keep out water. I put this beast on and stood in the shower for ten minutes to make sure it would hold out the water well and I was completely dry.

Only thing i wish this could do is be able to turn inside out and stuff into it's own pocket, but that's a small, small problem

Gore-tex Paclite at the right price

Perfect for summer rain. More fitted than similar Gore-Tex jackets, but the more tailored fit looks nice. Still roomy enough to put on another layer for cooler weather. Buy a size up to fit a fleece under it for the perfect winter jacket. Chest pockets have air vents; much more attractive than pit zips. A lot more packable than my Mammut Gore-Tex Paclite. Tiny reflective logos are surprisingly *super* powerful. Great price for this level coat.

Light weight rain jacket

The fit, color, and price are great. I have not been able to use the jacket yet, but look forward to using it in our monsoon season next year on day hikes. The jacket is very light weight and is not bulky. Campsaver ships quickly.

Neutral Reviews:

Fits tight around the arms

I'm 5'10" tall and weigh 195 lbs with a muscular build. I wear an XL shirt, so I figured the XL Nano would fit just fine. But as soon as I tried it on I could tell it was tight around the arms. I decided to keep it anyway, knowing full well that I could only wear a thin layer underneath (such as a light merino longsleeve). I can also add an ultralight down vest because there is plenty of room around the core. This jacket is fine as long as you don't plan on layering for cold weather. It's the lightest Gore-Tex jacket I could find, and I just don't trust anything else to remain waterproof in a cold all-day rain.
