More awesome than a pre-dawn mission to the summit of a local 14'er—kablow!
True, the Marmot Men's Super Mica Jacket does feature pro-level weatherproofing, a sub-nine-ounce weight, and enough technical features to drown a space shuttle engineer, but that's no reason to drool on yourself. Instead, reach for this three-season storm shell when you need to save space and weight in your fast-and-light trail pack and you're sure foul weather is on the horizon. The best part? Despite all the attention to the performance, plenty of time was devoted to dialing in the fit. Ok, maybe it is worth drooling over.

Fantastic Rain Jacket

I love this rain jacket for summer hiking or spring/fall layering. I had read reviews of last years model (sizes ran small/snug) and knew to buy 1 size larger than I usually wear. This makes sense anyway since it allows me to layer comfortable and keep mobility. The coat is amazingly light and almost compresses into my first.
As for how is functions in poor conditions, I hiked in it for 14 miles up Clingman's Dome in a torrential downpour one day last summer. The jacket kept me bone dry and was extremely breathable. The pit zips let out the heat but while keeping out the water. My favorite feature of the jacket is the adjustable hood. This is the first jacket I've ever owned where I didn't have to tilt my head back in the rain to see out from under it. The bungey adjustment is located perfectly and hood visor stayed put all day. I also appreciate the non slip pads on the shoulders and hips to reinforce/ protect the delicate material from backpacks. My only word of caution would be to avoid bushwacking or situations where the jacket could get caught on snagged on a branch and tear.
Silver Bullit at REI on 04/04/2013

I bought this primarily for my daily commutes which in florida summers usually involves a downpour and on a bike, I've gotten caught more than once. The price was a little high but I took a shot at it. It's worked great and kept me dry the whole time. The pit ventilation is really the only type of venting but it's primary job is to keep me dry and it does that very well. I also wear it now on cooler evening bike rides because it does a great job as a windbreaker. It's light, I can pack it for any trip and it's tough so I never worry about it. It's been to Haiti, Guatemala and Costa Rica and kept me dry throughout. Love this jacket, would definitely recommend and would definitely buy another, though I don't think I will need to.

Exactly what I wanted.

I bought this primarily for trail running. I was looking for a good quality jacket that would fit into a sub 10L pack yet keep me warm and dry in an Alpine environment. This jacket fits my needs perfectly. Although I am yet to try it out in an Alpine down pour, so far it sheds water well and I do not over heat or sweat up excessively. The fit suits a slim person but I guess that's what most trail runners are. I like the added protection where my pack rubs whilst running. Hopefully this jacket will go the full distance. Although expensive, I think it is worth every cent.
Phil at Campsaver.com on 04/04/2012

Been looking at this jacket since it came out. Have the Mica too, but I really like the pit zips on this one. Minimal added bulk. Used it on a really wet snowday in Ouray, over my soft shell. Worked great. Breathability as expected...fine. Nice hood over helmet, and good adjustability. I'm usually between Med, and Lg in most jackets..medium usually tight in shoulders on non stretch stuff. Fits like I expected. I got the Lg...
I have a hard time thinking about having $300+ goretex jacket stuffed in bottom of pack with screws, cams etc. This jacket is a great compromise. would definitely buy it again

functionality perfect, fits okay

While I love this lightweight rain jacket for its perfect functionality and lightweight, I am upset about the fit. I am 5' 8" with a wider/longer torso and have a shorter inseam, weighing about 160 lbs. The small is still fairly large, with a larger than normal waist space (as if I had a huge gut) and a zip up that goes uncomfortably high up to my lips. I'm sure these are also meant for layering and more protection from the elements, but I expected a better fit like north face or arcteryx. I use it mainly for biking, so the lightweight is great.
glee1 at REI on 06/06/2012

Well, maybe you could, but not for this price. This is SUPER light weight, and extremely water proof. I have worn this on my bike in downpours thinking I would come home soaked. But I arrive dry every time. This jacket may be breathable, as I do not have anything to compare it to, but it will trap your sweat. I have found that if I just slow down my pace a little I have nothing to worry about though. And then I get to enjoy the rain a little bit longer :-) And Back Country has the best prices!

trap440309 at Backcountry.com on 04/15/2013

Seems great

I haven't used this product to a long extent, but I have worn it out biking on potentially rainy days. The pit zips kept me well ventilated, but the rain never came down. I did put my arm under a running faucet to check out the waterproofing and the water just beads away, no sweat. This jacket will come with me on all trips from here on out. It is definitely small and lightweight, but not uber-packable like I've seen in other jackets that come with a tiny pouch for storage. And even on sale, it is kind of expensive.
getbizarre at Campsaver.com on 04/04/2012

Perfect for all outdoor activities....

I have a grandson who plays baseball which begins in spring, well you never know what the weather will throw at you during the transitional change from winter to spring.. So in saying this, I have to express the importance in being able to enjoy watching my grandson play while not over dressing or underdressing for the weather.. This jacket is perfect and would recommend to anyone and I will be buying this jacket for Christmas gifts this holiday season and a few upcoming birthdays.. Could not be more pleased with the quality of this jacket, thank you Marmot...
SnappyJackie at Rock/Creek Outfitters on 04/04/2013

This is a very nice lightweight rain jacket. It packs down very small and is so light you can take it on any hike.
I like the features: pit zips, multiple pockets, and a nice hood. Some hoods on jackets these days are so big (in order to be helmet compatible), they don't fit well without a helmet. This one fits nice and has good adjustments.
The material is very light, but seems pretty durable.
The breathability is pretty good; good enough for the dry climate where I live.
The fit is contoured and athletic.
Very good, light jacket

Brett Garrett at Backcountry.com on 05/16/2012

The jacket looks great, fits great, and has all the Gucci features of a lifestyle jacket or technical shell stuffed into an ultralight package. While there is some tradeoff in durability for UL products, the material and fixtures of this jacket suggest they will hold up admirably. Obviously this isn't a hardcore bushwhacking jacket, or even one you would necessarily want to wear everyday; however, it is perfect for throwing in your Camelbak, daypack, or keeping on you at all times just in case. It was well worth the purchase.

Mike at Backcountry.com on 02/01/2012

Negative Reviews:

I've used this jacket on quite a few hikes and backpacking trips now. I am definitely not impressed with the water repellent finish. This jacket wets out within 5 minutes in light rainfall. It is a good windbreaker, but I would never bring it on a trip with more than 30% chance of rain. I use it as a back-up jacket because it is light and packs small. But if I'm expecting rain, I use something more water proof. Also, the only reason this breathes at all is because it has pit zips and vented pockets. I like the technical features, but am very disappointed with the performance. I should note that it has survived quite a bit of bushwhacking without tearing. If only I had bought it from backcountry like I usually do, I'd return it...

byk3346726 at Backcountry.com on 11/19/2012

Purchased an extra large and had to return it. The upper arm area is way too tight and I don't have big biceps or anything.
