ABOUT MARMOT

In April 1971, University of California Santa Cruz students Eric Reynolds and Dave Huntley were in Alaska on the Juneau Icefields on a school project in Glaciology. It was here on the glacier, amongst these students, that the idea of a Marmot club began. To become a Marmot, you had to climb a glaciated peak with another Marmot. One of the rules of the club was that everyone was president. Most of the other rules dealt with the collegiate fascination with bodily functions.

Eric and Dave went on to found Marmot Mountain Works in 1974, and through the years the company made lots of innovations in down jackets, sleeping bags, Gore-Tex apparel, and beyond. Their modest enterprise is now one of the largest and most respected outdoor gear companies in the world, distributed in over 60 countries, and it is still all about the highest-quality, innovative performance products.

Great Rain Shell!

So far, I couldn't be happier with the Marmot Mica rain shell. The material is beyond light, yet just screams "quality." I have been in several downpours in this shell, however, I have never gotten wet. The taped seams are expertly executed, the fit is great, and it's just exactly what I was looking for in a higher-end rain shell that doesn't cost a fortune. In addition, this thing is seriously breathable, which was a huge plus for me. The only thing I would add to make this jacket perfect would be pit zips, but again, the breathability almost compensates for the lack of pit zips. I would definitely purchase this jacket again.

Another awesome effort by Marmot

My job often demands that I work 12-16 hour days out in the elements and during rainy season I wouldn't want to get caught without the Mica jacket. I have tried others that worked as advertised but still left me feeling clammy. My last jacket didn't have an adjustable hood which sucked during heavy downpours because my visibility was poor, not to mention I had to keep one hand on the hood at all times. This jacket is far superior in comfort and reliability. I'm not sure you could find a better jacket in this price range.

Superlight and Dry. Awesome!

This jacket is my favorite new piece of gear. It's so lightweight that I can carry it around anywhere. The thing packs up so small that you can almost carry it in a pocket. I haven't tried it in a torrential downpour yet (not much rain this year) but it's kept me dry through summer showers. I don't think there's anything else in this price range that comes close to this jackeet's functionality. If you're shopping for this, get it! You won't be disappointed.

super light!

This jacket weighs next to nothing. I take it with me wherever I go. I live in utah which is pretty dry so I never want to take a jacket but with this it fits in my backpack easily when I stuff it into it's own pocket. Not a ton of bells and whistles but I don't need anything super techie to keep me dry in the middle of summer. I just want light and waterproof.

Ultra-fabulous

This jacket is like none other. It's so lightweight and easy to pack, but keeps me warm when I'm chilly but breathes when I'm on the move. The "angel-wing" shoulders are great for keeping my arms swinging, with golf clubs or hiking poles. Marmot has done it again. And Summit Hut got Marmot to direct-ship my size and choice of color when all the other retailers on the internet had sold out of it.

Great Lightweight Jacket

I keep the Mica in my pack mountain biking, backcountry skiing and hiking/backpacking. Nice to have something so small and light that is also waterproof and windproof. Packs into it's own pocket for easy storage. Much more breathable than other jackets the same price. Hood works great in rain and high wind.
BCS1975 at Campsaver.com on 06/06/2009

Great Jacket all around

Good hand pockets, good fit,(I got small, 5'10" and 140lb) nice velcro wrist closures. it also has a bottom draw chord, which is helpful. My only complaint is that the self stuff sack was bigger than necessary, but really a great lightweight jacket.
Daniel at Moosejaw on 01/20/2013

Great jacket

I am really excited to bring this jacket with me on a 430 mile section of the PCT in a couple weeks. It is super light and packs down small. The material feels and looks great. I am stoked about this jacket.
zman at Campsaver.com on 07/07/2010

Great jacket but fits tight in back

Great for hot and humid weather. Packs away easy. Fits tighter in the back so when you reach forward, like when your riding a bike, it gets tight around your back armpit areas. I had to get a size bigger.
Hulk at Campsaver.com on 07/07/2009

This is a great lightweight, no frills, breathable, totally waterproof rain jacket. Perfect for summer rainstorms and lightweight hiking/backpacking.

Neutral Reviews:

This is a really light jacket that compresses well. It's nice to know I can stash it easily and without adding any noticeable weight, even on a day hike. It will even fit in your pants pocket if you want. I've had problems with the water proof factor though. I've had it for 1 year now, and it is not waterproof at all anymore. 5 minutes in light rain and it is already soaked through to the inside. Could it be possible mine is defective? I thought it had a 20,000 rating, and I find it hard to believe that this model would be that weak when exposed to the element it's designed to protect against.
