Fantastic Mid-Weight Jacket | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I purchased this jacket because I wanted something that I could use for when it gets cold, rainy or windy around home and that I could take to the mountains for XC and downhill skiing and mountaineering. This jacket fits the bill perfectly. It's comfortable enough to wear around home when you're chilly (I'm wearing it right now). I especially like the comfy micro fiber that's around the neck area and in the pockets. As for the mountains, I took this jacket snow camping and ice climbing just last weekend and it performed very well. I will say that is isn't very warm by itself, but layering is a much better method for keeping warm anyway. I also have a Mountain Hardwear Sub-Zero Down Jacket that I am able to zip into this Marmot because they both use YKK zippers. The two made the perfect combo for snow camping, with the down keeping me warm and the Tamarack keeping the wind and snow out. In a recent rainstorm I took the Tamarack out into a downpour for 15 minutes and it kept me perfectly dry, but I wasn't satisfied. I wanted to know if it was entirely waterproof, so I let it sit while wet for half an hour. Still dry. Then I took it into the shower (yes, with the water on) for about 5 minutes and finally decided that no water was getting through because my cotton shirt was still completely dry. The only thing that I would change is to put the internal chest pocket on the right side instead of left so it wouldn't overlap with the outer chest pocket that's on the left side. This really isn't a big deal. Overall, this is an amazing jacket and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to stay comfortable, warm and dry. | |

| I bought this jacket sight unseen and was worried it might be too flimsy. Before it arrived, I went to a local store and checked out the Rubicon, Troll Wall, Alpinist, as well as Arc'teryx, North Face et al and felt a bit better...though I was still concerned 'cause those jackets cost a lot more. When the Tamarack finally came, I was psyched. Feels more substantial than a shell with no lining. And the Membrane fabric feels plenty sturdy. Pockets are great, outer pockets have waterproof zips. The hood is for real with a solid visor, big enough for a helmet but fully adjustable. Overall, a very well constructed shell. The option of zipping in fleeces is a bonus. Also I agree with the previous post. Great fit for a tall guy. Can't attest to durability yet, but will post again in a while. Great deal for the price paid ($140). NOTE: Altrec has the wrong pic up for the Eclipse/Tempest(colors are wrong) Go to Marmot website for correct photo. | |

Love It | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I have had this jacket for a couple years now and I love it. I've had it in rain, snow, and strong winds and it performs great. I live in the city and when the weather gets nasty its my jacket of choice. I have had it on ski trips as well and it performs great. Breathes well and the pit zips allow more breathing when you overwork yourself a bit. But when the temp drops down into the teens and you get windy snow, its still a great jacket. I am warm natured, so if the temps are in the 20's or 30's I don't need but a thin layer underneath this jacket. Its a little warm for me if its a mild temp rainy day, however. I need weather on the colder side to wear this jacket comfortably. But I don't require the layers that most people do. | |

Not bad for the price | |

| Picked this up on clearance for 135 and I could not be happier. This jacket is a solid shell great for any outdoor activity from backpacking to mountaineering. The full pit zips offer serious ventilation, and the ability to zip in a fleece mean it will keep you nice and toasty while out in the snow. The only con is the material is not quite as durable as some other shells i.e. arcteryx gear, but for the price you cannot go wrong with this solid shell. | |

| I bought this jacket because I have had a Gortex jacket for over 15 years and wanted something new . I plan on hiking in the Lakes District in England . I took it out today around the D.C area in the rain in temperatures in the mid-40's and walked for about an hour . I was perfectly dry which meant I stayed warm and now am ready for my trip to England . The hood works very well also | |

| Just got back from hiking The Priest in Virginia. Rained all day and night and there was a bitter wind at the higher elevations. The jacket performed flawlessly. Never got wet, never got hot or cold. The Pit zips really help and the jacket seems to be very durable. Sweat was never an issue either because it breathes quite well. An excellent purchase. | |

| I purchased this jacket but upgraded to the Marmot Rubicon. I have long arms so the sleeves felt a little short but other than that, the jacket fit as advertised. | |
