I don't know how I survived so long without it

| I love this jacket. I have a Mountain Hardwear Mortise insulated jacket, which is great for the really cold weather, but I needed something for the warmer days. I went to a popular retailer and tried on many different soft shells. I went there wanting a Mountain Hardwear (I really like that brand), but I ended up choosing the Marmot Ultima. The fit was much better and looked better on me. I like that the black is actually a very dark grey. I could only find a couple reviews and they both said this jacket wasn't warm enough for them. I ordered it from Altrec anyway, and I'm pleased. I think the reviewers must have had unrealistic expectations for a soft shell. I've worn this with a layer underneath in weather down to 20 degrees and been fine. Today I wore it with just a T-shirt underneath in 45 degrees and it was perfect. I've also worn it under my Mortise when it was below zero. It's very versatile. It's also super comfortable. We keep our apartment in the mid-60s during the winter, and I wear it around the house a lot. Construction seems solid. Pockets are good for stuff and in a nice position for hands. Highly recommended! | |

Great Jacket | |

| I bought this jacket in fall with the idea of having a light weight jacket to wear in fall and spring when the temps are not to cold. Since I walk to and from work I was curious how long I could get away with wearing this jacket without the addition of to many layers. Well with the exception of those two weeks(locals you remember), I've continued to wear it as my main jacket with normal base layers. It has repeled wind, mist, rain, and snow. The elbows have survived a few slips on the pavement with out any damage(don't ask). Over all it has been one of the best jacket I have bought. You could save a few ounces buy spending much more, but unless your trail racing whats the point ?!? | |

Great Jacket | |

| I've had the jacket for a few weeks now and it has performed better than I expected in cold, rainy weather. Rain beads up and with just a basic thermal layer beneath the jacket is more than warm enough for above-freezing weather. I am 5'11 160lbs and the medium fits me perfect, although I could use just a hair more room in the shoulders for when I wear a vest under the jacket. Like another reviewer said, the color is a very dark gray, as opposed to black. Overall this has been a great jacket and I have zero buyers remorse! | |

Love it! | |

As the other reviewer said, it's certainly not a below-freezing shell, but to me it stays very comfortable when the temperature drops. It probably just depends on how hot or cold you typically are. I have trouble wearing most jackets because I always get too hot. This one stays warm but never seems to get me to the point of sweating. It's SUPER comfortable and very well made. Not the greatest if it's really windy but it's good at repelling rain.

| this jacket goes extremely well over a baselayer. design fits perfectly and very elegant. not very warm but sofshell jackets don't have to be! that's why you use those baselayers. over a smartwool base it's all i needed here in SF this winter. now (spring) i can use it over a oxt after sunset. i really like this jacket. i have other two softshell jackets and this is my my best one. | |

Marmott Ultima Softshell
| Rating: | ![]() |
Nice jacket, but not what I expected from a warmth perspective. I have had other softshells that were half the price and warmer. I expected a something similar to Marmott's Gravity or Molan softshell as far the thickness of material. So depending on the application, I would say this jacket is for activities in the upper 50s and 60s, and not sufficient for 50 degrees. Not the Ultimate softshell in my opinion.

Not very warm | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I got this to wear as a wind layer over a fleece and for that purpose it works great. On its own it’s not warm unless you are extremely active. The jacket is much thinner and not nearly as warm as other marmot softshells like the gravity or moran but seems to breath a little better. The fit has slightly longer sleeves than some other jackets. The quality is what I would expect from marmot. Overall a good softshell but if your looking for something warmer that breaths nearly as well I would suggest the gravity. | |
