Gearx

Aquamira is stabilized chlorine dioxide and contains no active chlorine or iodine. Chlorine dioxide is an extremely effective and safe water treatment currently used by hundreds of municipal water treatment plants world-wide. Aquamira's unique formula works quickly and efficiently by releasing oxygen in a highly active form to kill bacteria, viruses, and protozoa without unpleasant taste or odor! Aquamira is the first stabilized chlorine dioxide water treatment kit of its kind available in a consumer package.

What is Aquamira? Aquamira is a two part system, Part A, chlorine dioxide, 1 oz. (30ml) (2% stabilized chlorine dioxide), and Part B, phosphoric acid, 1 oz. (30ml) (5% food-grade solution).

Is there chlorine in Aquamira? No, there is no active chlorine in chlorine dioxide. Although chlorine dioxide has the word chlorine in its name, the two forms of chlorine have completely different chemical structures. The oxygen is the active ingredient.

How safe is Aquamira? Water treated as directed with Aquamira is safe to drink on a regular basis.  It will work in water temperatures from 32°F to 100°F.

OutdoorPlay.com
Aquamira Water Treatment offers a safe and highly effective way to treat drinking water using stabilized chlorine dioxide as a germicidal agent. This well-established disinfectant is iodine and chlorine free. This unique formula works by releasing nascent oxygen, a highly active form of oxygen, which is a strong oxidant and a powerful germicidal agent. It does not discolor water, nor does it give water an unpleasant taste. The 1 oz. kit is compact enough to fit in a shirt pocket, can treat up to 30 gallons of water, and has a four-year shelf life.

cheap peace of mind

I use these treatment drops with a [2L Platypus > Aquamira Frontier Pro Filter > 2L Platypus] gravity filter setup. I find the standard packaging to be a bit much for anything less than a week of backpacking so I purchased the suggested AntiGravityGear Lightwater Kit (includes a mixing dropper!) which allows me to reduce the amount of treatment drops I bring along.

I've used these treatment drops for several summers now with zero problems. Good stuff, but don't pre-mix.

I only listed the cons to balance out the pros. Combining the two parts into the provided mixing cap and waiting 5 minutes is rarely ever a problem and I always welcome the break, especially when I'm near a nice creek or river.

Aquamira

I have been very pleased using aquamira as my water treatment system in the backcountry as opposed to using a water filer. Weighing in at only 1.4 oz. you can save up to 1 pound off of your pack weight by not using a water filer and that was the main reason I started to use aquamira. I keep aquamira in my day pack, fishing pack and hunting pack for those just in case moments when I could get lost or simply run out of water. Aquamira gets 5 stars in my book for the weight savings and the simplicity of use.

Great little purification kit

I used this water purification kit with my son on a recent Boundary Waters canoe trip. It was easy to use and worked great. Unlike iodine, there was no odd taste to the water. In fact the water tasted really good!!! We are planning another canoe trip for next year and this is now our "go to" way to purify our drinking water in the back country. No more iodine for us.

A must have.

I use Aquamira on backpacking trips along with the Sawyer Squeeze. I also keep some in my bug out bag and a smaller bag that stays in my truck. Used to use only a filter, but even in the purest parts of the cascade mountains, I was struck with giardia. Now, when it comes to exploring, traveling, or most importantly, survival... Aquamira's on the top of my list.

Aquamira is great water treatment

I have led about 20 mission teams to the Miskito coast and Bosowas rainforest. We have used Aquamira for most of those teams. When used properly I believe it treats water completely so that it is safe to drink. When we do we have never had anyone get sick due to the water, that we know of.

I haven't gotten sick yet.

I usually take the time in the evening to filter enough water for the next day and then let the drops work overnight. I have had good experiences and have come to trust Aquamira tablets and drops. For me, the drops are more convenient than the tablets.

Great as advertised

Perfect for backpacking. I never have to worry about a water purification gear malfunction. I didn't do a "before" test, but the water tasted great after purification so I believe the manufacturer's claim that this product improves the taste.

practical water treatment

The most practical water treatment I have found. On week-long hike into the Wind River Mountains my buddy's Steri-Pen had problems while I had none.
