I had the first version of the Trail Gloves. I did everything in them, still do. Road running, trail running, plyo's, weight lifting, hiking, backpacking, overnight trips. They're the bomb. I don't know how Merrell managed to put solid tread on barefoot shoes... You don't feel like you're walking on tread, it is a very accurate barefoot experience.
I've done quite a bit of actual barefoot running. These remove the draw backs of barefoot running and leave you with all of the ideal. If you misstep and stub your toe, its not gonna keel you over anymore. Its gonna give you some grip and a bit of warmth. And of course its gonna dull the pain of stepping on roots and stones. Plus they're durable as all hell. I've been beating them to shit for a year now and they're still in great shape.
I could go on and on about these. But I won't. I'm not going to compare them to any other barefoot brand because they can't compete. The new version is as good or better than the previous. Plus they're vegan, so you can't go wrong there. An amazing shoe you can feel good about wearing.
Get this shoe and enjoy.
I have to clarify that I do not use this shoe for trail running.
I initially purchased this as a lightweight second pair of shoes for backpacking. I wear boots when hiking with a pack and wanted something super light to throw in for around camp and day hikes while out. It turns out that I love these shoes for everyday use and wear them almost everyday. They are super comfortable.
If you love the feeling of going barefoot; but, hate actually going barefoot... buy this shoe.
Very soft and flexible with enough of a sole and protection to keep rocks and other items from gouging your feet.
I recommend this shoe to everyone as a comfortable summer shoe or as a second shoe for backpacking. If you actually participate in minimalist trail running... you'll probably like this shoe even more.
Me 9.5 US. Shoe runs true to size. I usually wear 9.5 and sometimes 10. The 9.5 gives my foot ample room to relax and spread out.
I do wear with socks. Currently out of stock; but, if the DC Shy Guy No Show socks come back... buy the 5 pack and be happy.
