Positive Reviews:

I was skeptical at first, but this thing really does work well! I had a pretty bad case of tendinitis in my elbows and forearms, and using this seemed to help with the pain and keeping my grip strength up while I was sidelined from climbing. Obviously, the unique aspect of this product is the finger loop rubber band, which provides resistance when extending the fingers as well as when closing them. I think that's what makes this stand out among the millions of squishy grip trainers out there. Even after my tendons healed up, I've continued using it from time to time, mostly just sitting at my desk at work.

Best hand warm-up/strengthening tool and great for old people with arthritic elbows

The only hand strengthening tool that I know of that balances the muscles in the hand by working the extensors and flexors and all that good stuff too, rather than just working your grip. Also, as opposed to the relatively linear motion of grip strengtheners like the gripmaster, the ball tends to work stabilizer muscles in the fingers much better. My parents stole mine because it is the only thing that uncripples their arthritic elbows so i'm getting them each one for christmas.

good for warm-ups and to pass time in the office

the up side - it works on the opposite muscles of you fingers.the downside - its not very affective, and gets old quite fast.if you get this grip, be sure to take the "soft" one, to avoid injuries.
EITAN at Moosejaw on 12/17/2010

Great finger stretcher or projectile

Awkward at first, takes some use before you feel it stretching your muscles. Also try keeping it stretched out for a longer period of time, builds endurance.
Jo at Moosejaw on 12/29/2007

Better then using rubber bands for hand exercises!

This is excellent to isolate muscles for hand strength training. It takes a bit of patience to get all of your fingers in place.
KRISTINE at Moosejaw on 01/26/2008

weird looking but cool

I have this and the BD forearm trainer ring. I think I like this one better b/c it does the extensions too.

pretty sick

Awesome product. it helped make my forearms nice and strong for those tricky climbs

WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY

you're better off investing in...well ANYTHING else. this thing fell apart before i even really got to use it. and i'm too busy to send it back to moosejaw, and i don't really want another one. ALL of the finger holes broke off. i don't even know why moosejaw continues to carry this product.
JULIANN at Moosejaw on 03/08/2008

Thumb loop broke within one week of use.

I bought the hard (orange) one and used it a few times a day for about a week and it failed. The thumb loop developed a small tear which quickly grew. If it had held together longer it would be a great product. I think it was helping.
Will at Moosejaw on 09/10/2011

Bought one of these years back. Didn't get much resistance on the extension and after a few days of use the bands snapped. The ball itself was also a bit too soft and the bands get in the way of trying different grips.

Max Peterson at Backcountry.com on 04/07/2012

waste

Cool idea but the thing broke on me in a couple of days. And it does say pull the tabs on the fingerloops to prevent breakin but it still broke
WILLIAM at Moosejaw on 03/16/2009

Neutral Reviews:

I think it works

The idea with this product is to work the antagonist muscles and tendons to prevent or recover from finger injuries cased by over use. Don't expect to get a workout with this guy as that is not its intended use. The concept is sound and proven with other muscle groups, but I cannot scientifically say that it has really helped me recover from injuries any faster than resting alone would have, hence three stars. But it is easy to use and could not hurt your fingers any more, so I will keep believing that it does work.
Eric K at Mountain Gear on 06/06/2010

It works alright for therapeutic purposes, unless you are very advanced, then I don't think the resistance is strong enough. It is not really a strength builder. There are much better devices for that. But $18.00 for something that may have a bucks worth of material? That is disappointing. I could live with the short durability if the replacement cost wasn't so sky high!

Matt Paine at Backcountry.com on 11/27/2009

Good concept, not my favorite hand strengthener

I've been using this for a few weeks, I don't feel like it is as much as Power Putty. Just my $0.02. I will continue to use it though, since I don't like sitting at my desk at work with the putty, since the color exchanges a little on my hand and it looks like I'm playing with Play Dough or Silly Putty.
Scott at Moosejaw on 11/28/2012

I tore a tendon in my finger doing some 2 finger pull-ups. This helped me while I was out from climbing. The best part about this product is the resistance when extending your fingers. The worst part is it broke after a month of use and it cost too much.

Brandon Smith at Backcountry.com on 11/27/2009

Probably wouldn't buy one again.

The grip saver works well but the black rubber finger bands do not last very long. Metolius sent me out a new one at no charge but that one has already broken also. If they can find a way to make the product more durable it would be good.
JAMES at Moosejaw on 01/02/2008

Works great but doesn't last.

Works great while it lasts. Black rubber fingers rings don't hold up too well after moderate use. I hope Metolius can come up with a more lasting design.
