Montbell Ex-Light Down Jacket Reviews:

Positive Reviews:

It's a great backpacking jacket. As you folks know, the limitation with goose down is that it can't get wet (which is the only reason why I gave it four stars instead of five); nonetheless, I'm buying my second jacket. I use my first one for backpacking. You need one set of clothes that stay dry anyway, so I use this jacket to sleep in or when I'm sitting in the tent.
However, I found a two other uses for it. I'm one of those people who's always cold (I live in New England, too), and I was always dragging around a jacket like a dork. I found that this is a great jacket to throw in my purse because it compresses so small. It incredibly warm without the bulk. A very fashionable and artsy friend also said how they really liked the jacket (I have the black one). Also, it's a great jacket for travel for the same reason.
EDIT: One more thing. Because of the lightweight materials, you can only wash this jacket once a year. That's not an issue for backpacking, but it prevents being able to use this jacket for daily use.

I love this jacket so much I have 3 of them. I live in Alaska, and wore them for most of the summer. I also wear this jacket under my Norona gortex jacket for extra insulation. I throw my jackets in the wash and dry them in the dryer (with a tennis ball to fluff them up) at least once a month and they come out GREAT!
I couldn't imagine life in Alaska without them.

I just received this item and could not believe how light jacket is. Like a cloud of fitted warmth that hangs just right. Ordered the gunmetal gray and liked it so much, I have just ordered one in citron yellow. Plan to use it in South Carolina as jacket during winter months. Warmth (but not overly so) with weightlessness and wind blocking ability - a perfect combination. Large fits size 12 me perfectly.

I love this jacket. I wish I would have gotten the one with pockets on the outside but I still love it. So unimaginably light and it goes backpacking with me every time. What a great replacement for heavy fleece. I sleep in it too when it's really cold. Just purchased the Alpine Light Down Parka and I love it just as much.

i love this jacket. i bought it for backpacking as a layering piece to replace the heavy fleece. i love it, it's so warm under my shell and it's a great fall transitional piece rather than wearing my huge puffy down jacket. i love the fit. i bought a small and i usually wear size 2/4 tops.

Between my wife and I, we own three of these. It's a perfect weight as a sweater. It is not thick like a down jacket so it layers under a shell. Finally, it packs light and small. This is one of those pieces we wouldn't be with out.

I got this jacket last year for christmas! So light, warm and comfy! I am thinking about getting it for all the women on my list this year!

Negative Reviews:

I sent the jacket back as it was way too light in weight and the fit was square.
