Good pack to replace my North Face Recon

My last daypack lasted me for the better part of 8 years and was looking to replace it. Knowing that I'm going to getting several years worth of use out of it, I wanted to pick the right backpack.

One of the requirements I was looking for was a daypack that's big enough to fit enough cloths for a weekend, but small enough to wear around during the way.

This pack fit the bill just right.

On a recent around the world trip from NYC-Frankfurt-Singapore-Yangon-Tokyo-Los Angeles-NYC, I made with just this backpack. I carried a total of 20lbs of which 5lbs was a laptop. I removed the hip belt as soon as the pack arrived because I've never had a use for them for these small day packs.

The overall quality is way better than comparable North Face branded backpacks I was looking at. The zippers are nice a sturdy. The side netting shows very minimal fraying even after the world loop.

The one thing I would like to see improvement on is to make the laptop easier to remove while the pack is full. This is why I didn't give it 5 stars

I originally purchased this backpack for myself but after one morning giving it a dry run in the field it was clear that this backpack was not for me. I gifted it to my husband who absolutely loves it. I am 5'2" and petite and have a relatively short torso making the back ride almost below my buttocks or ride almost 4" above my head. My husband on the other hand is almost a whole head taller than I. So if you have a torso that is more in the realm of "regular" this pack would be great for you. It has fairly good organization which is a must in our wildlife biologist line of work. The plus or minus depending on who are you are is that the side pockets and rear pouch are mesh. We got through a lot of chaparral and they are still holding up but are starting to show the abuse. The material that the pack itself is made out of thought is great, very rugged, and despite being through some dense scratchy foliage still beads water nicely.

Excellent pack design

This is an well designed pack. I wanted a pack that had the right combination of Daypack/Backpack. And quality is essential. This is it.
Suspension has the comfort of a hiking pack. The innovative split back ventilation panel is comfortable and cool. There's a hydration port on top and a sleeve for either a water pack or a laptop. I easily carry a couple of iPads there. There's plenty of room for gear or books, and another compartment for smaller items (chargers, keys, first aid kit, etc). I especially like the fleece lined pocket for sunglasses. Lastly, there are two mesh water bottle holders, and a back stash pocket for a jacket, helmet, etc.
And there are reflective accents all around. In black, this pack just looks cool.

wrong picture

Great bag. I use this for work and it stores my 17' laptop well. Lots of organization. Campmor's picture, however is misleading. The pack I recieved had gray pull tabs and White webbing, not the black and gray in the picture. It looks like a whole different bag. But its a great bag so I kept it. I also have a Mt Hardwear Iguana pack and internally its very similar.

I bought this backpack for my son to take to school. He absolutely loves it. His comments are: "awesome", "I love it", "It's so comfortable to carry around"
He loves the front pocket where he puts his brown bag lunch and it's separate from his books. I love the quality and I know it will last for many years. The price point was also very good.

Great work/school pack.

- I use it in lieu of a briefcase when going to work. For now, it carries a notebook, mp3 player, glasses, water bottles, and occasionally a bike helmet in stuff-it back pocket. Might eventually carry a laptop in it.
- Wish Mtn Hardware had made the stuff-it pocket strap just a little longer to better accommodate larger mtn bike helmets.
NH Mtn Man at Campmor on 10/10/2011

The bag is a practical size, has a strong heavy duty zipper, and i feel provides me with a sense of overall good value for the cash . would recommend this as a good school bag and weekend adventure bag as i use it for both occasions.

Great Pack

I bought this backpack to use as a school pack. I often ride my bike to school and love the fact that it has waist and chest straps, a strech pocket on the outside to hold my helmet, and external compression straps to stabilize the load.

I am very satisfied with Zappos! And I love this backpack. It's really good quality and has lots of organization pockets. I use it for school currently, but plan on using it later for motorcycle trips. It is definitely a dual purpose pack.

This a great school pack. Very large capacity for three or four 2" binders. Comfortable and feels well made. There are very few day packs that have this capacity.

Agama Pack

Got this new pack because I wanted a new daypack and school pack that was hydration compatible and also had a laptop sleeve. I really wanted to get this pack because it is spacious, the outside stretch pocket is great, and the water bottle holders a awesome. My problems with this [$] pack: the padding is not even stitched in the center of the back panel. It is off-center, making the load uncomfortable to carry.. The day I bought this pack I took it out on the trails. It did ok. Also, the capacity is so large internally that the load just flops around inside. The compression straps help a bit, but overall the carry is pretty sloppy. I would expect a lot more quality and thought put in to a bag made by a nice brand with a hefty price tag. Will most likely be returning this product.
