Love this shell

This is one of my favorite jackets. I bought it for backpacking and climbing. The sizing is pretty good for layering (I can wear a thermal base and a down mid-layer under it without being too tight). The hood fits over my Black Diamond helmet, but anything larger would be too big for it.The jacket is lightweight, super dry, and stylish enough to wear every day. It has kept me dry in downpours and freezing rain, and does a pretty good job of blocking out the wind. Although it is more breathable than many waterproof shells, it can get a little clammy in warmer temps, but the pit zips help that aspect out a lot.

Best low priced rain shell on the market!

I bought this rain shell, looking for a lightweight, breathable shell that I could layer underneath for rainy backpacking trips and as well as on the golf course. So far this jacket has proven to be bomb proof! I've been in some heavy rain and it keeps me completely dry and also is very wind resistant. I am 6' and around 235lbs. and the XL fits perfect. I have just enough room for a fleece or sweater underneath and I could not be happier with my purchase. Moosejaw had the best price on the internet as well! Thanks!

Great jacket!

I've been on the lookout for a lightweight, breathable and fitted shell for warmer-weather skiing or for layering over a softshell on cold days. This shell offers just what I need -- wind- and snow-proofing without smothering -- with Mountain Hardwear's usual attention to detail - well-taped seams, easy-to-use and sturdy zippers (including pit-zips) and chamois-like zipper cover on the inside to prevent chaffing. Sleeves and body are size-appropriate length, though the torso is designed to be snug. Nice color selection. Minor negative: the hood's pseudo-visor is slightly stiff, making it difficult to roll into the self-collar.

Solid jacket from Mountain Hardwear

This is my first purchase of anything made by MH, and I will now be a regular customer of their stuff. Yeah, it keeps the rain off for hours and is super-breathable, and has taped zippers and all the usual gadgetry you'd expect of a technical rain coat, but it also LOOKS GOOD. Can't say that about too many brands out there, going for the function-before-form theme. I'm 5'11", 225 and the XL fit's perfectly. Hood is a little large, but you can use the drawstring. Bonus: not made in China (Thailand).

Mountain Hardware lives up to their reputation again

Great jacket. Very light weight rain jacket for backpacking or a top layer for skiing. Other than knowing that mountain hardware just sells a quality product (my 4th MH jacket, yes I am still using them all for different activities and times of the year), one of the big selling points was also the pitzips. Looking forward to getting a lot of use out of this jacket. I am 6'1 and 185 lbs and the XL was perfect for me and still roomy enough to layer underneath.

Superb rain coat

I purchased this jacket specifically as a rain coat, very comfortable with excellent ventilation makes even a rainy day better. And the jacket really does stretch which makes it even better if your going to be exposed to the rain all day. Some features that I liked was how that the zippers have a special coating on them and if you don't like hoods then you can use the Velcro piece so that the hood isn't even noticeable.

Took it to Kilimanjaro

Took it to Kilimanjaro and it kept me nice and dry. The pit zips are really useful when you're hiking and just need to vent some heat (but still want to stay dry). Lots of zippers for storing stuff, and it's lightweight. Highly recommend.

Great jacket, just beware of sizing.

Couldn't be happier with quality of this jacket and its functionality, however it is sized a bit snug. I would strongly suggest sizing a size up if wearing over only a base layer and possibly two sizes up if using as an outermost layer.

good rain jacket

I love this item that is used by stretch material. I have arcteryx and patagonia jacket, but I mainly use this jacket because it is very comfortable and good ventilated. I would recommend this item.

AS WATERTIGHT AS THE TITANIC..NOT

No really this is a great jacket. It breathes well, lets no water in and keeps you look good in the worst weather. Very pleased.

Negative Reviews:

The hood is massive!

I really wanted to like this rain jacket. I liked the fabric, the cut of the body and arms, the features...but the hood is absolutely massive. I can't understand how it got through product design the way it did. I am a 6'1", 240 lb guy and I have worn a lot of outdoor clothing but I have never worn anything with a hood as awkwardly huge as on this jacket. It would be too big with a helmet on. There is a neat adjustment feature on the back of the hood but it couldn't do enough to scrunch this down to normal size. I am sending it back.
