Men's Clothing > GlovesRated: ** by 10 reviews.

Mountain Gear

Crank up the heat on your next alpine adventure, or better yet, have your gloves "sense" when you need the heat cranked up in the Red Savina Heated Glove from Mountain Hardwear. Leave the heat packs behind, 3 lithium polymer batteries placed inside the gloves adjust the internal temperature as you need it; leaving your hands so warm and comfy you'll think you're warming them over a campfire.

Features:

  • Block cold gusts and moisture with heavy-duty Cordura on the back of the hand and extra long gauntlets that keep the elements out with an elastic wrist and Velcro cinch
  • Busting with fortitude, these gloves employ durable goatskin fabric on the palm and fingers and ripstop taslan nylon fourchettes
  • Keep a runny nose happy with the non-chafing chamois nose-wipe on the back of the thumb
  • Pack in the heat for up to 6 hours with the rechargeable lithium batteries and keep 'em powered up with the included AC charge that lasts up to 1,000 charge cycles
  • Protect your insulation with the lightweight, breathable, and waterproof Conduit insert that blocks outside moisture while allowing interior moisture to evaporate
  • Take control of your warmth with an integrated lithium battery heating system that's lightweight, safe, and able to sense internal temperature and provide heat as needed while you control it all with the built-in control switch at the wrist
  • Wick moisture away from your hands with the high-loft polyester fleece lining while PrimaLoft insulation at the back of hand and fleece at the palm ensure comfort and warmth
  • Your gloves might take a beating but your hands won't; padded reinforcements at the back of hand absorb bumps and withstand abrasion

Positive Reviews:

Worked great!

Rating:****
Great for motorbike but I do not travel far. First major use was 5 hours Ski patrol at 4-10 F. Was only patroler not complaining about cold fingers. Not quite sure about operationg them as no instructions came with the gloves. Appears you have to push the flame button again when they get cold as they appear to shut off automatically. Conserves battery but if in continuously cold weather would be nice if they just stayed on. They do not get "toasty" warm by my definition but definitely keep your fingers comfortable.

Negative Reviews:

These Are A Complete Waste of Money

Rating:*
These gloves are garbage! I waited months for them to come in and was very excited to bring them on my recent vacation to Vail. Neither one generated any heat whatsoever. They are poorly made with wires coming out near the plugs and leather haphazzardly placed near the buttons, which, don't even depress uniformly. They are huge and bulky and have virtually no insulation or warming proiperties on thier own. In short, if you must spend[$] on gloves spend $150 on a pair of top of the line Swany and burn the other $150, it will keep you warmer in the long run.

Can I rate lower than 1 star?

Rating:*
I used these gloves to climb Mt. Whitney's mountaineers route two weeks ago. Going up the mountain during the day you didn't even need to wear gloves. I tried putting them on while we were cooking our meals at Upper BS. I took them off the charger that morning, and to my dismay they were functionless in 30 degree weather. I expect much more from Mountain Hardware and am doing my best to give them back.

Unreliable

Rating:*
I am so angry with the over-hype created by "professional reviews" in magazines such as "Outside" about this product. Have had two pairs of these and sent both back as both pairs had one glove that couldn't hold a charge. The first set also came with a charger that didn't work. Really a frustrating waste of time and money messing with these.

Still have cold hands

Rating:*
Very expensive and disappointed as per performance from MT Hardware. Will return. Mine included an internal memo citing poor performance until the gloves were recharged 10 times. This was suppose to be corrected but they seem to still have a problem. I would love to see them work correctly.

Beautiful gloves, marginal performance

Rating:**
Very nice gloves, great design. High cost. I wore them on a 25' day and was very dissapointed with function. Will return for credit.

Red Savina not as warm as expected

Rating:***
The main reason I bought this glove was for warmth. I went to Keystone 12/08 and the temp was in the high 20's- low 30's. The gloves did not keep me as warm as expected. My fingers were freezing. I resorted to glove liners and even had to place chemical hand warmers. Might as well used my old gloves with the same setup.

50/50

One of the gloves worked fine, and I was looking forward to using them. The other glove did not hold a charge, and I had to send them back. There were none in stock, so I could not get a replacement.
