Rocky Mountain Trail

Excellent for climbing, skiing, backpacking, traveling and snowboarding in windswept and exposed landscapes The Mountain Hardwear Men’s Transition Jacket features windproof and breathable Windstopper Soft Shell fabric. This lightweight jacket has stretch panels for maximum mobility and a DWR finish to help shed light rain and snow. The close-fitting and athletic cut has a long back so you won’t get a cold back when you reach above your head or grab your handlebars. Inner cuffs with thumb loops keep hands warm, and the rear zip pocket has and earpiece exit for your MP3 player. Controlling your temperature is a cinch with the full front zipper and quick access hood. Windstopper® Soft Shell: The next generation of WINDSTOPPER. Featured in Mountain Hardwear's Transition garments, this three-layer laminate has an extremely breathable, windproof membrane sandwiched between a moisture-grabbing brushed polyester inner and a moisture-wicking jersey knit face. Fitted close to the body and sealed by Lycra at hems and cuffs, a Transition garment creates a microclimate next to the skin. As you exercise and heat up, the temperature/ humidity differential between this interior microclimate and the outside air creates a driving force that pushes moisture out through the membrane as vapor. The next-to-skin microclimate is small in volume so this driving force is extremely efficient, and moisture is driven out quickly. Click here to learn more about Gore Windstopper

"The Transition Jacket is my choice for active wear when I need less insulation and something to cut the wind without giving up breathability. The light material flexes and stretches to provide tons of freedom and mobility. The water repellency is a bonus for those drizzly Northwest days or snow showers. I’ve worn mine climbing, biking, kayaking, running and skiing. It can also function as a lightweight insulating layer for cold conditions."

Just what I was looking for

Rating:*****
The MH Transition jacket is now my favorite for cool/cold weather aerobic activities like biking, running, or nordic skiing. The N2S Windstopper does a great job of keeping the wind away and breathing well. I sweat a lot and so it gets a little wet but works better than other breathable materials I've tried. I'm 5'9"/175 and the medium fits me just right. It does have a slim cut. I like the thumb loops, but if my hands were any bigger they would be probably be a bit snug. I can't use the thumb loops under my cycling gloves because the hand coverage is a little too bulky. The hood is an under the helmet hood and does fit tight around your head when the jacket is zipped. The hood doesn't roll up, remove, or stow in any way. The one pocket in back has been enough, but I don't plan to use this jacket for anything other than exercise. I would use this as a shell for temps 20 - 50F, or as a mid layer for alpine skiing in much colder conditions.

Takes the chill out of winter runs

Rating:****
I purchased this jacket for my long runs this winter. The integral hood will help to keep my head/neck warm and the North wind at bay.

My size is somewhere between medium and large for most jackets. This jacket has an athletic fit, and the medium would be too snug to wear much for a base layer, so I ordered the large. The thumb holes in the sleeves just fit me, so I'm sure the medium would be too small in that respect.

I like the weight and feel of the material. It provides wind protection, some insulation and allows perspiration to escape.

The only pocket is in the right lumbar area and is large enough for an MP3 player, cell phone or some energy gels. I would have liked to have a matching pocket on the other side. A couple of hand warmer pockets would be a nice addition as well.

How survive without it?

Rating:*****
This is such a great piece! Whether it's 20F or 50F and windy, this jacket, with or without layers, keeps me warm by keeping the wind at bay. The thumb holes keep my wrists covered, and the hood is great to protect my head. On sunny or rainy days I wear a brimmed cap under it, on cold days I also wear an earband under the hood. Even with the hood off, it's tight enough not to flap. The material is absolutely windproof, the fit is just right for me (I have a small, I'm 5'11", 130 lbs.) The only flaw: the (small) pocket is on the back, very inconvenient to reach when in motion. But I can live with that, to have the rest of what this piece offers. Thank you, Mountain Hardwear!

"Wonderful. I'm buying another one for my brother."

Rating:*****
I'm wearing the jacket as I type this, and I've pretty much been wearing it every waking hour since it arrived over a week ago. It's perfectly filled the gap in my wardrobe between jumper sweater and jacket. Its windproofness keeps out the chill as I ride my bike, or walk my dog on the beach, and it's thinness stops me from overheating when I exert myself. The hood is excellent, nice and fitting, and has really helped on late-night walks with the dog. The sleeve-glove things have also been put to good use keeping me warm. I must say i don't think I'd call this a jacket... maybe a wind-shirt? Or a hoodie? The material is very thin, with a space-agey silver-grey shimmer on the outside

great product

Rating:*****
This is a great jacket for running. I wore it out for the first time last week. The temperature was 26 degrees out, all I wore under was a long sleeve moisture wicking shirt. This jacket did a great job blocking the wind, in fact I didn't even feel any wind chill on my upper body. Jacket fits the body well and is very aerodynamic in order to cut drag. I only wish there were pockets on the side of the jackets to put gloves into or a hat once you get warmed up. The only pocket is in the back of the coat, and trying to put something in that pocket and zip it back up while continuing to run can be a little challenge.

great stuff

Rating:*****
really enjoy this jacket - wear it biking or running, down to some pretty low temps. The windstopper does its job, which allows you to run or bike with minimal/no base layer in pretty cold conditions. I prefer this to Mountain Hardwear's Transition T, which I also had and used for the same purpose - the hood on this jacket is always helpful, and there if you need it - the full zip in this jacket is also preferable (in my opinion) to the quarter zip on the t-shirt - the t only has a quarter zip, and fits a little tighter, making removal a little more difficult. Just something to consider if you are trying to decide btw the two.

"MountainHead Gear Is Up and has ARRIVED!"

Rating:*****
I did a recon on this jacket and I searched and ENJOYED! The DWR material is very note-worthy it has an amazing effect. The fit is adequate, it's very stylish, even for NY standards, and very appropriate for early morning walks, jogging adventures, and walking around town. When you are looking in your closet and wondering what to throw-on, you will definitely keep the Transition Jacket on the your front, back, or escape door knob. But the real kicker was, next to the back-pocket feature, was the half-hand glove inlet for the thumbs. This feature is applied on the more upscaled Eurpean Brand Jackets. VERY COOL! Moosejaw has become my GO TO STORE , they have just about EVERYTHING! and H

"Essential Piece of Gear for the Cold-Weather Runner"

Rating:*****
I needed an outer layer to stay warm during cold AM runs and this jacket does the job perfectly. Windstopper material keeps the wind out, and keeps heat in; I was shocked at how warm I was first time I wore this jacket in ~35-40 degree weather. Leads me to believe it will be even more essential once the brutal Cleveland winter hits. The thumb holes on the sleeves and the Ipod pocket on the interior are great features, only thing I don't like about the jacket is it lacks side pockets. Was concerned about no drawstrings for the hood, but its slim design eliminated that worry.

"Ultimate Lightweight WIndproof and Water Resistant Jacket"

Rating:*****
If you are looking for the perfect lightweight running, biking, hiking, cross-country skiing jacket, look nor further. I just took this jacket out for a test spin on my road bike in 15 mph winds and 40 degree Vermont weather, and I have no complaints. The jacket did all that I can ask it to do - keep the wind out, and possibly keep me dry until I get home. While this jacket is not waterproof by any stretch of the imagination, it will keep you, or your ipod, dry until you get home, as lon gas you get home relatively quickly.

"If you want a light weight jacket that performs, this is it."

Rating:*****
Water rolls right off the shell and the Windstopper fabric really does what it says. The thumb holes in the sleeve are a perfect fit. They really do keep the sleeves from riding up. After mountain biking and trail running with this jacket I really appreciated how light weight it was and the single pocket in the back. It is perfect for your keys and anything else needed. Bottom line: If you want a light weight jacket that performs, this is it. Disregard the price and buy it. You won't be sorry.

Wish it fit

Rating:***
I was excited to get this jacket as I have the transition Zip T and couldn't be happier with it. The N2S fabric is amazing stuff, but the cut of this jacket leaves a lot to be desired. Ordered a large and the fit was terrible. Granted, I am tall (6'4") and thin (175#), but usually have no problems finding gear that fits. This jacket seems to be cut for an athletic build (which I have), yet felt tight through the arms, short in the sleeves, tight through the chest (i.e. no room for even the lightest of base layers without ROM restriction), and the entrie package is a bit short overall - I can't put the hood on without feeling tension in the shoulders. I tried on the XL and the only difference was a bit more room in the chest / stomach so it was not a better fit for me. I will be returning the product; would be 100% happy with it if the fit was right but I have no use for it is I can't use the hood. TRY BEFORE YOU BUY - it's not for everyone.
