The Mountainsmith Dog Pack is a versatile and handy pack to have when backpacking, climbing or hiking with your favorite best friend. The Dog Pack is designed to go on your dog's back, to help carry his/her own stuff. Made with an independent adjustable fleece lined chest harness, two zippered pockets with rain flaps, and a D-ring attachement point for leashes.
No more carrying that extra weight when your buddy can do it himself. Our suggestion is if your dog hasn't carried one of these before, you should let him practice before you go on your adventure, in order to let him/her get used to carrying a pack and the weight.

It's pure puppy love! The Mountainsmith small dog pack has an independently adjustable strap system that tailors the pack fit to a cocker spaniel- or terrier-size dog.

Keep everything stowed in the Mountain Smith Dog Pack, for an all-day outing or extended trip to town in these streamlined packs.
Let your pup carry his own food, water, and treats in the Mountainsmith Dog Pack when you hit the trails. These well-fitting packs hold enough doggie grub for a full day of hiking, and are well balanced to carry just right. Soft padded straps and a well-vented top assure that your furry friend stays comfortable, and compression straps stabilize his load to keep him on his feet. Stash the leash in the top mesh pocket, and it'll be ready when you reach the trailhead. Hay, it has to happen sooner or later.
Sized for spaniels and terriers, this dog pack has Mountainsmith high-performance features; it allows your best friend to tote water, food and accessories with ease.
Keep everything stowed for an all-day outing or extended trip to town in these streamlined packs.

A sturdy dog pack | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I have two Border Collies and I use the pack 3-4 times/week for hikes and regular walks. This is my second dog pack, and considering the material that it's made of, it will last a while. My dogs run in the sage bushes chasing squirrels and having fun, and that was what killed my first pack. The storage bags are good sized and fits water bottles and food easily. I have two Gatorade bottles filled with water on each side, which makes 4 lbs, for my dogs. The pack has a very good fit on the back of the dog ( at least on my dogs). Luckily enough I read some reviews before I bought this pack and I picked a small size for my 50 lbs dogs. The packs are BIG in size! If there are any draw backs , it would be that there is no support over the shoulders where the dog has the most strength. The pack sits like a horse saddle on the back of the dog. Another thing is the strap locks. On my first dog pack, I could adjust the straps for the dog once and that was it. On this pack the adjustment for the snap locks easily loosens up and you have to tighten it again. Over all, I like this dog pack very much! | |

Small, but a fine pack | |

| I've used a larger version of this Mountainsmith pack with my 70 lb collie for years - it has good balance, rides well, cannot be destroyed (we've tried) or even damaged, and fits well. Importantly, it's quikc to get the dog and in out of, as there aren't a bunch of stabilizing straps, just three quick clip ins. Thought I'd get a smaller version for my new border collie puppy, either for a permanent pack if he doesn't grow too much, or at least for a year or two. He's about 34 lbs now and the pack fits him about right, altho I personally think the compartments could be a little longer in length. they are kind of smallish, but they will not ride too low or drag for a dog this size, and that is ultimately more important so they don't hang up on everything along the trail and have the weight kept higher along their spine. All in all, I think it will be just fine for a 30 - 40 lb dog, and the Mountainsmith pack design has proven itself to me over the years. If he grows beyond 40 lbs, then it'll probably be too small and I'll replace it. Somebody could probably improve on the straps and strap holders, but they're decent anyway. | |

Great Pack | |

| This pack is tough and well made. The straps are easy to adjust both on and off the dog. My 10 month old 44 pound Black lab/mystery mix fits into the small pack just right with room to grow. She is slim and leggy with a long body. She carried it empty on a 4.5 mile hike for her first experience and the pack didn't shift at all. I realize that once I start adding cargo this could be different and that keeping the weight balanced could be a challenge. She seemed comfortable in it and didn't have any hot spots or chaffing where the straps were. The polyester sleeves that slide over each buckle help, I'm sure. I bought this pack so the dog could carry her own water on our day hikes, and it looks as though I got the right pack for her shape. Definitely use the girth measurements to decide which size to buy, not the dog body weight. Like humans, dogs can be very different measurements, and still weigh the same! | |

Just plain great, and at the best price!

| I use this on my 55lbs lab and I wasn't sure if the small was going to fit or not, and it fits perfectly with plenty of room to tighten or loosen. It's really durable, my dog sometimes forgets it's on and cuts corners short and this dog pack holds up over and over. the large YKK zippers are great. The 3 best things about this are and in this order: 1. fits very well and comfortable for the dog. 2. very durable and high quality materials used for construction. 3. large storage capacity. at first glance it may not look like it can hold much but I put in two 34oz. water bottles (one/side) and I have room to spare. I can't not find a negative with this and I'm hyper critical. Buy this dog pack, you and your dog(s) will love it! We get compliments and questions almost every time we use it. | |

Not For My Dog !!!!! | |

| OK....this is different. Only because of the clearence price did I experiment with this. It looked to me that it could double as a "Poor Boy Pannier" on my beater bicycle I was taking to Burning Man. On my old "hard Tail" bike is a Trek rack for affixing a trunk pack. It seemed to me that the dog pack could straddle the "Mountan Rack" under the trunk pac. In short.....It worked as expected. I used zip ties on the belly straps to help hold it to the rack. My bike was my main source of transportation at Burning Man and the pack added needed extra storage. I think the next size up would be even better. HEY MOUNTAINSMITH !!!! You should work that angle with your packs ! I really like it ! Oh.....and I am sure it would work fine on a dog too.....hehehe | |

| I recently purchased this pack with the concern that it wouldn't fit. I generally consider my ~50 lb. whippet / collie mix a medium-sized dog, but after reading several reviews, I decided to go with the small pack. Even though he is deep chested, the pack fits my dog very well. When the pack is fairly balanced, it doesn't shift when he walks and runs. The pockets aren't large enough for a multi-day trip by any means, but they would carry a couple days' worth of food and any extra leash/harness stuff. I always carry a water filter and hydration pack, so the dog doesn't carry the water. I don't know how much the pack would hold if he did. I'm planning a trip into the Adirondack High Peak region this weekend - we'll see how it holds up to steep slopes and boulders. | |

| This pack fits my smaller Standard Poodle to a "T". She pulls a lot on her leash while walking (yes, we're working on it) so I don't clip her leash to this pack. I clip her leash to her collar instead. This pack holds all her water, food and poop bags for woodsy hikes. It's good looking, too!I like the way the zippers are protected from the elements, they are covered by the lip of each pack lid. There is an elastic cord to tuck items under, as well as a mesh pocket on top. It has two belly straps, not just one, in addition to the strap that goes across her chest. I like this pack better than the others I own. | |

| Great product for [$]. Very durable and feels like it will last for a long time. Be aware, they run large. I initially borrowed a medium sized pack from a friend, but it was way too large. I have 2 australian shepherds (45-60 lbs), and the small packs fit them perfectly. In fact, the straps are still longer than necessary. I'd recommend, if your dog is in between sizes, that you go with the smaller size.I also own a red colored pack, and the gray/black style looks better (in my opinion). The reflective strips are a nice touch and aren't found on all comparable packs.Very fast (and cheap) shipping. Great deal, I've seen these sold for about $100. | |

Got one for my dog, and he's put it through its paces. Probably over 20 hikes now with it, a couple being 3-4 day trips and the pack has held up great. Pack sits right in place on the dog without moving around, even when my dog starts jumping around and going into play mode.

Great Pack | |

| If you have a dog that needs to get out some extra energy, this is a good solution. You're walking your dog every day anyway, so let him or her carry some water, the waste bags, your cell phone, and your keys. You will enjoy the walk more, and he will tire a little more quickly. I would recommend you start with nothing in the backpack, just to let your dog get used to it. Then you can gradually add more weight. Just follow the recommended weight restrictions for your breed of dog. | |

Sturdy pack fits some dogs but not all
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I have two border collies that fall into the recommended weight range for use of the small-size pack. I use the pack for day trips since the saddle bags are pretty small. One dog fits the pack beautifully; the other not so much, due to his very narrow chest. The chest strap is sewn too low to fit the dog well. The belly straps fit fine. The pack is well made and seems like it will be quite durable. It's already endured trips in the mountains where it's been soaking wet all day from our water-loving dogs hitting the creeks and lakes with it. It's easy to spray clean. The saddle bags are probably average in size- I wish they were a bit bigger. The other problem is the lack of enough padding on the chest strap. The small piece that comes with the pack does not extend across the chest enough to prevent some chaffing, so I've had to add some padding. | |

Disspointed | |

| I typically enjoy mountain smith products, and was excited when I found this on sale. I put it on the dog, and she seemed to enjoy it, it fit well. The problem is with the breast strap. My dog occasionally pulls, and was able to pop the strap from the seams, leaving me holding a leash with the pack on the end. Dont want to take it back and have the same problem. | |

Disappointed | |
| Rating: | ![]() |
| I have used older models in the past and was happy to find this one on sale. However, the first time out, the breast strap broke loose from its insertion as the dog ran through some brush. My inquiry to Mountainsmith about repair has gone unanswered. All this is disappointing, to say the least, because I own and like other Mountainsmith products. | |

won't stay stable on her back, back piece needs to be broader. after reading others review I choose a small for my 50 pound lab/german shepherd mix and I am not as happy with it as I was with the medium for my other two dogs

| The cinch straps on the right side of the pack were not sewed down correctly, so the plastic clasps fell off somewhere. I just cut off the straps, as we don't need 'em and they just get in the way... Still a decent value. | |
