Mountain Gear

Trust us - it is possible to ruin a beautiful camp pot by melting that $1 spatula with the clever cut-off handle into the non-stick coating, thus ruining the pot. We're not bitter. MSR's Alpine Folding Spatula withstands camp stove temperatures, flips burgers and and fillets easily, never scratches your cookware, and folds for easy packing. Save your pots and stop improvising.

Features:

  • Folding design firmly snaps into position for easy packing and worry-free cooking

Altrec

Now you don't have to make the case for adding luxuries like your favorite kitchen utensils to your pack. MSR's lightweight Alpine Spatula cleverly folds in half for compact storage. Use it for pots with a nonstick coating-no scratches, no dings.

Features:

  • Spatula weight: .77 oz./22 g

REI

"You need this if you cook in the sticks!"

Rating:*****
Took this on a week long trek into the Rockies and it was great! It's so light and small you won't know you're carrying it it's sturdy I'm not usually very easy on my gear and this spatula is still with me! and it cleaned up well. I wish I'd have ordered the matching spoon now

"Small enough to fit in solo cooksets& sturdy enough to flip a steak!"

Rating:*****
I got this spatula as a part of the three piece set and I loved it! When extended, the front tip was small enough to use easily on a five inch fry pan. Yet it is well designed to flip a large chunk of meat effortlessly. Very light, leaves no scratch on cooksets!

"Lightweight and versatile"

Rating:*****
It's lightweight and folds up small. I appreciate that it doesn't melt when you turn up the heat - seems like it will hold up. This plus a spork is all I've ever needed. It's a good size for flipping pancakes and frying eggs - no need for it to be bigger.

"Great gear!"

Rating:****
It's survived me using it to cook! A lot more durable than I expected it to be and folds up into a convenient size!

Negative Reviews:

Melted

Rating:**
I was pretty excited about using this spat, it was small, lightweight, and a brand I trust. The first time I used it, I was making pancakes over a Pocket Rocket. It only touched the pan's surface for less than a few seconds at a time, but the edge of the spatula melted. It is still usable, but definitely not heat resistant. Also, the only reason it was difficult to clean is because stuff was stuck in the melted crags.

"Not a big fan"

Rating:**
Spatula melted on my non stick pan.

Neutral Reviews:

I dig it, but I can't scoop it.

Rating:***
The primary things I look for when I buy something from REI is durability, lightness, and compactness. This is all of those, I looked at several spatulas when I bought this one and it seemed that with whatever I was working with it wouldn't break and at the same time folded and was lightweight. I do like it now that I've used it but I wish I could scoop food with it at the same time. I still haven't seen a product that serves as a spatula and a scoop at the same time but that would definitely beat this product. Good buy but keep in mind that you might want to scoop food out of the pot.

"It's a Spatula, what you need to know?"

Rating:***
The MSR Alpine Folding Spatula is a good design but the material is a bit on the weak side. I guess saving space is a good tradeoff

"Works like a spatula"

Rating:***
Light, compact and functional. So far, I haven't melted it yet. If I'm going to make pancakes when camping, I bring it. Otherwise, it stays at home.
