| I have a MSR superfly with the AutoStarter on it. I used it for my Appalachian Trail thru hike. I used it for the whole 5 months. It never failed once. The only trouble I had with starting was if it was windy and I didn't sheild the stove. Being that it's a canister stove you can't use a wind screen. Once or twice in heavy wind I had to block the wind. Other than that it's a no brainer. Life on the trail got even easier with this. | |

| It also works beautifully when lighting my Trangia Westwind alcohol stove. You can even strip off the bracket that normally holds it onto the MSR stove to save an ounce. Just don't forget to bring along something to start a fire in an emergency-- a piezo sparker is great for a stove, but it won't light much else. | |

| I bought this item to eliminate the use of matches for lighting the stove. It was designed for the MRS stove but I use it to light my Coleman. It works great. So far it has worked as expected. Thank you and thank you for the great service. | |

Clever, but misdescribed on Altrec | |

| This is a small, inexpensive generator of bright, long sparks. But while it can be used by hand to light a variety of stoves, it is designed to be attached only to the MSR Superfly (an upright canister stove which is lit at the burner, not at a fuel cup under the burner). It does not attach to the MSR Whisperlight or the other MSR liquid fuel stoves in any way that would allow it to start fuel in the fuel cup (which must be lit first to vaporize the fuel in such stoves). Altrec's description of this device failed to mention that it was specific to the Superfly and I would not have gotten it had I known that it was merely a slightly heavier hand-held replacement for matches or a lighter. I have given it three stars only because of this misdescription. | |
