Great Bladder--2 years and going! | |

| I used this for a 6-week field camp as well as a 7-day trek through the wilderness. I haven't had any problems with the bladder - never leaked, never tasted funny. After reading previous reviews, I'll agree with the following: 1) If your tube is exposed to sun, the first sip will taste funny. I figured this out, so I would always spit out the first gulp if it was exposed to the sun for a long period of time. 2) You could lose the cap. So be careful when unscrewing it. I put my cap in my pocket when filtering water. I am a careful person, so the reality of losing a big cap while refilling is not a possibility for someone like me. 3) Although the bag may appear to be made of "flimsy" material, it is indeed strong. But use common sense when using, and it shouldn't puncture at all. 4) There might be a plastic taste during the first use. So I used common sense--I rinsed it with tap water first, and then filled it. So I never experienced the plastic taste that other reviewers had. | |

| My son and I have one of these. They work fine. Both made it through Philmont trek 32. The caps don't leak. The valves don't leak. All I can say on the negative side is I wish the aspect ratio wasn't so narrow. It would fit my small pack better if (IMHO) it it was a tad wider and a tad shorter. But as it is, it fits my Osprey 85 like a big sausage with room on both sides, which is handy too. | |

| My wife and I also had problems with this leaking around the cap. We just took it on a "test hike" with some of the packaging still intact, we just wanted it for some extra weight. I thought the leaking might be because the cap wasn't tight, but the grips on the cap are so poorly done that it's almost painful to really get it tightly closed (or open again). No ergonomics here. Also, the cap having no attachment to the bladder was troubling. The possibility of dropping it in contaminated water during filtering didn't sit well with my wife. I have some other MSR products I'm very happy with, but they dropped the ball on this one. | |

| I was a little dissapointed with this bladder. it started leaking around the cap on the first hike getting my pack all wet, no big deal, maybe I put the cap on wrong. next hike I made sure that it was on right and when I opened my pack sure as daylight, everything was wet. it also started leaking where the hose couples to the bite valve. I have two other brands of bladders and have had no problems with them, so I don't think that I'm the problem. at any rate I gave it two stars because it did seem to be made out of durable material and who knows, maybe I just got a defective one. | |

| It is amazing that Cascade Designs can do so well designing their Platypus and so poorly designing this Cloudliner. This is the ONLY MSR product that has ever disappointed me. Whether you tighten the lid finger tight or super tight, the bladder often leaks from around the cap. The handle is also very difficult to hold while tightening the lid. During my last few uses I've found that in addition to minor leakage around the lid, the mouthpiece is leaking as well. The flimsy plastic material does not inspire the same confidence that I have felt from other brands. After a few months of disappointment, I will be returning this bladder for something that reliably holds water. | |

| I just bought this today for a weekend trip starting tomorrow. Got it home and blew air into it (this is how I initially test bladders). It immediately leaked through the cap area.I tried to resecure cap it seemed to hold. I then put water into it and in carrying it to my pack, the bladder bent a bit and water literally poured out of the cap area.[...]IT IS TRULY JUNK!I guess I will be taking my Nalgene bottles. | |

Disappointing Product | |

| Purchased this product from REI Outlet about a year ago. The liner in the tube started to separate from the outside plastic immediately. It eventually created a blocks in the tube and did not allow fluid to flow through to the mouthpiece. This happened multiple times and I am now stuck with a 1' tube that doesn't exit my pack. I'm going to buy a CamelBak product. My wife has one and it works great. | |

Decent Reservoir | |

| This reservoir is decent as far as they go, however I noticed immediately there were some things that I would change. First, when filling this bladder with a standard filter with a hose, the screw cap is not attached. I found myself perched on a rock by a stream, trying to hold the bladder, the screw cap, and pump the filter...that takes two more hands than I have. I was honestly concerned I would drop the cap; imagine watching it float down the stream and me being left with a useless reservoir. Also, the bite valve took some getting used to...on a strenuous ascent I would often have to stop and fiddle with the thing, the lockout feature is nice and helps prevent leaks, but occasionally it would engage on it's own, and to get proper flow, the directions say "bite half way for maximum flow". Well, If it's in the "OFF" position, and you don't know it, trying to bite 1/2 way and suck water out can really take your breath away. On that note, it has proved very durable; I have it in a military assault pack with a 30 lb. sandbag filled with gravel in it (used for firefighter training), and the bladder has held up nicely. | |

| Just got back from hiking the Grand Canyon. The bladder worked great, the 3L size was perfect for the climb up South Kaibob Trail (7mi, 4780ft elevation change) which has no potable water and temps of about 100*F. Nothing leaked, and the hose did not kink. My only gripe is the taste the that the hose gave the water. The first sip every time I drank tasted like melted plastic. After the first sip the water tasted fine. | |
