MSR Hubba HP Tent

Hiking & Camping > Shelters & TentsRated: ***** by 6 reviews.

Mountains Plus Outdoor Gear

This ultralight, freestanding solo tent weighs less than the Hubba™ tent, yet offers increased protection for unexpected early-season snowfalls or persistent coastal winds. Greater coverage to the tent canopy and lighter fabrics all-around ensure that the Hubba HP tent holds its own in more extreme 3-season conditions, yet still weighs in at well under 3 lbs (1.36kg).
* Ultralight: Technical fabric shaves ounces and provides more protection from snow, sand, and wind.
* Livable: Unique pole configuration provides maximum interior space, a Stay-Dry™ entrance, and large vestibule for storing gear.
* Quick and Easy Setup: All-in-one hub-and-swivel pole design is strong and simple to use.
* Versatile: Can be used as a double-wall tent for full protection or in two freestanding tarp-shelter modes: with optional footprint, or just the fly and poles only for the ultimate in weight savings

"Excellent light-weight tent. Easy to set up and withstands the elements."

Rating:*****
I purchased this tent for use at the Philmont Scout ranch this past summer. It handled the 10 day 70 mile hike extremely well withstanding heavy rain, hail and wind. I was completely comfortable in the cool New Mexico mountain nights and it was a blessing on weight with the hiking. My only concern is that it may be somewhat warmer than a mesh tent in hot weather and subsequently not as comfortable; but, I have not had the opportunity to use it under these conditions yet. There is no extra room for gear inside; but, the vestibules are sufficient to handle some gear (although, you should never put your pack or any smellable item near your tent in bear country).

"Great practical shelter"

Rating:*****
Took this tent on my latest self supported cycling tour through Alaska and the Yukon.and encountered just about every weather condition there is. This is a great lightweight shelter that sets up fast and easy. Temps ranged from 4 -30 c and no condensation to deal with. Stood up to driving rain and wind without a fuss. A little tight for keeping gear inside, but thats what the tarp is for. Price is a bit high but quality will make you forget about it. Dont think you can go wrong with this one, undoubtably the best tent i,ve owned so far

"Well made and easy to setup"

Rating:*****
I just set this thing up in my living room. It was very easy. I like the fact that 100% of the interior room is available without putting stakes in the ground. I'm 6'2" and nothing is worse (well maybe some things are worse) than having the ends of the tent droop onto your face and feet during the night when your stakes let go. I'm glad this won't be a problem anymore. I plan to take it up Mt. Whitney late September for a test run.

great tent

Rating:*****
I bought this tent on sale, about $300. It is a great tent, although I have only camped in it one night so far. Packs down really small, weighs almost nothing, and once you're inside it, it's bigger than any other one man tent or bivy. I bought this to use on a cross-country bike tour, and I think it will do me well.

Very Nice MSR tent !! The Hubba Hp is the one you want if you want light and dry tent. Have used it on some hunts in the Colorado Mountains. Very well suited for bivy hunting. Moosejaw is the greatest !! use them !!!

"Sweet Deal"

Rating:*****
This little guy handle a drastic change in weather, including around 50-60 mile/hour side winds without a scratch! Out of the 6 tents we had, this was the only one left standing. Great purchase so far.
